After about a forty five year hiatus from the guitar , I picked it back up again two years ago.
So now at age 66 I am taking it all in and practicing hard and loving it. I do appreciate the willingness to share this great technique and info. Thanks to you all !

When I used to be 90% into playing heavy alternative rock, there were two bluesy guys I would hear, SRV....AND, Jr Brown! ty for reminding me to hear him again now that I am 90% into playing the blues!

Man, I watch so many guitar TH-cam videos on my commute to and from work, it’s kind of a weird therapy now. But I gotta say I get the most excited when I see you have a new video out, I just feel like you teach exactly the kind of stuff I love to learn - and the way you break it down to your step by step thought process is crazy helpful. Just goes to show with such incredible talent and a knack for teaching, you don’t need all the fancy production and fluff. Just keep up the awesome work man, seriously your channel is already my favorite hands down - and I literally watch everybody. Just such a tasty player, I’ve gotta do a lesson soon to try and get the deep dive. You the man, Guthrie!

Okay so I'm literally going over the last two videos of Guthrie's all day since I got home from work. Just put the guitar down to check on Hurricane Dorian coming my way. Light was flashing on my phone let me know I had a notification. Yep,, new one from Guthrie. And before clicking on it I looked at the time and it was a 20-minute video I knew right then this is going to be good and explained entirely. Thank you Guthrie for everything you do to help us.
Also, I get more out of you talking and explaining then someone just blazing through a scale our a concept.

Man I am glad you're having fun with this, cause I sure am! Loving the tip about going to the 5 chord to add interest and movement instead of just hanging on the 1 chord, and the other useful tips, and the sweet turnarounds. It's all like a fun puzzle, with no one right solution, but creatively filling in pieces that work in the right place, to produce something lovely and captivating to listen to. Hope your cough gets better soon!

@@guthrietrappmusic and I'd been asking about turnarounds for a while now, and here, you've opened my eyes to so many. It's amazing how close all the triads you need are to each other. And that has been one of the toughest parts, the application of all this information. These examples here Guthrie, along with all of the amazing embellishments you throw in, are the true gold of your lessons! That and all the explanation of what it is and why. You are truly an amazing teacher. And you do it all from a phone in your living room, with too long of a video, with too much talking? Lol. Well, apparently that's the difference and maybe the golden formula that everyone else is missing.
      Thanks again Guthrie.
Oh, and the album choices. Awesome additional. I've seen a lot of people ask you for recommendations on who to listen too that influences you. That's great. Hope you get to see Mark Knopfler this year. I live in Utah. He's actually coming here, unfortunately I just can't afford the $1000 ticket. Many times I've put on Tunnel of Love, or So Far Away, and immediately been massively influenced. His playing is truly something special. It can take you somewhere else. I guess that's the ultimate goal one day with this, to achieve something timeless like that. With your help, for the first time, I feel it's possible to get what's in my head to my fingers and onto the fretboard.

Just stumbled across your video Gurthie. I have been banging around on guitar since I was 18 and am 72 now. Never really had any talent but love to play and love the sound of the guitar. I retired 7 yrs ago and started taking guitar seriously. Spent a lot of time on theory, which I really enjoy, but now starting to spend time on learning some songs and learning to play my instrument better. I have lived in Mississippi most of my life, so the Blues comes very natural to me. I have a few favorite teachers on the net that I follow follow.
At 72 your mind does not work as well as when younger and your finger dexterity lacks a lot. Your lesson was perfect for me. It goes at a speed I can absorb and the level of theory is right where I am mostly.
Looking forward to learning from you.
    Thank you so much.
    Regards, Charles

Another great video - very helpful. Great idea to include some examples of things to listen to - it's always good to get someone else's idea of things that were influential to them. Brothers In Arms is so good. Albert King - I saw him play live as the opening act for Steve Miller a million years ago; it was eye opening for a bunch of kids used to hearing only Top 40 rock.

Hey GT! Love it brother! Working my way out of the "big chords". My dad was a huge blues fan when I was growing up in Alabama in the 70's. I went down the R&B, funk and then into R&R for years. I'm into my 60's now and have went back around to the blues. Always loved all of it including the chickin pickin, bluegrass flatpickers, steel guitar, banjo, fiddle etc. Glad you included the recommended listening, that is a great idea! Appreciate the explanations, keep explaining it, it all makes perfect sense. Now I'm rambling, lol. Keep adding to your channel, you break this stuff down great to my brain, wishing you all the success! Thanks again!

What a birthday gift you are to me. I asked my wife to take me to Carters guitars on my birthday 8/5/19 cause that place is cool and she obliged although she stayed in the van, so I only had 20min. My 9yo son and I were in the shop. The owner saw me noodlin and after some chat set me up with a used Taylor 12 string to play in back room. I was having a ball. My son picked up a $20k Strat which I asked him to put back. Then I hear your playing behind me and I said, now that is some geetarin. We get back to the hotel room and I see you are on my TH-cam feed playing a Martin 000 from that evening. My last memory of the place is that same owner picking up a 000 for you although I didn’t know it was going to be on TH-cam. I’m learning a bunch from your videos. May God continue to bless you!

No surprise I love your music, we like the same things. I agree, J.B. is amazing. I got to know him when I got Swim Away by Toni Price. All the musicians on that record are great and J.B. is the brightest jewel of the crown.

the "Homespun" thing is what i like most about your Videos. Like seating in the living room learning licks from a Buddy. Well none of my buddies have your chops. Thanks

I’m really digging your channel, both the lessons & the tone of your guitar. It’s everything I love...and if that’s an Albert Collins CD on your table, I’m never leaving. Lol. I’ve listened to that disc hundreds of times

Saw Guthrie in Nashville with my wife and daughters. He was a great to my family just a really cool guy. The guitar playing was hands down the best I have ever seen. I think John Oates said seeing Guthrie play either makes you want to go home and practice til you fingers bleed or just quit playing altogether. So true!

    Hey Guthrie, great lesson.
I like how you played it through and then broke it down so we can play along with the 12 bars after we have learned the components.
I’ll be checking out you courses and may get a Skype lesson at some stage.
I think you are doing an awesome job of bridging the gap for many of us and I look forward to getting this slow jam tight.
    Cheers for all you do.
