    I love how you are so useful with what you have! Like how you shared what you do to improvise not having the loading dock for the pigs. In this time period in America, it is pushed to “need all of the things” instead of making do with what we have. Love that you share those lost tips and common sense on how to improvise instead of covet our neighbor!

    Excellent idea to condition your hogs to go into the trailer! The first time we raised hogs was 17 years ago. We are "city-transplants", and neither of us grew up on farms. When we got the hog up to slaughter-weight we used boards to try to drive him into the trailer, which we had backed-up to the gate of the pen. That didn't work (of course!), so I threw some homemade cinnamon rolls up in there (which I knew "Beans" loved). He sniffed, turned around and looked at me, and his expression said, "nuthin' doin'".
    SO, since he liked me better than my husband I tried to push/coax him up into the trailer. He whirled around so fast I didn't know what happened, but the next second I found myself on my back in a foot of manure/urine/water. Yep, he had picked me up and dumped me in the wallow. I learned three things;
    1. Always get your hog used to going into a trailer voluntarily.
    2. Well water is about 39 degrees in November, and wind-chill makes it worse.
    3. The smell of a hog wallow will remain in your hair longer than skunk-spray stays on your dog. No matter how many times (or with what products) you wash it.

    Your method of milking is just like my great uncle. I was a child at that time around 8-10 yrs old. He was a non-mennonite dairy farmer back in the 1940’s - 1950’s. It was a wonderful blessing ❣️🐑🕊🙏

    I'm just so thrilled that I happened upon your channel a couple of weeks ago! I learned so many things in this one video--how lovely it is to watch a momma turkey with her poults; a cheap and (hopefully) effective way to keep flys off our dairy goats; how to make cottage cheese 2 ways; AND how to get our pigs trained to enter a trailer to make processing day MUCH less stressful! Thank you for sharing your abundance of knowledge! And yes, God IS Good!❤

    What you call cottage cheese we call Farmer's cheese. I've not made it with citric acid, but I do use vinegar. Love this cheese. I also made the short bread recipe from last week's video, and it's good. Next time I'll add some vanilla to it. You can eat it alone without the fruit it tastes like a good cookie. Thank you for all your skills and knowledge that you share with us. GOD is good, all the time!

    Hello Mrs Zimmerman and sweet family! I’m thrilled with every video you put out. We did raise pigs and cows, but never had a milk cow although we tried several attempts with AI, she just didn’t take. Bessie was her name and was so tame and sweet, she would have made the perfect milk cow. I could step out on the porch and call her name, she would come as fast as she could. My husband said she was spoiled, but I loved her.
    Thank you for showing and sharing your knowledge, I do appreciate it. Have a blessed weekend!

    feeding the pigs in the trailer is brilliant, they will be much calmer when it’s time for them to leave the farm. I grew up on a farm and we usually had a couple pigs for the freezer and when they are full grown they are not the easiest animal to manage.

    Happy to find our channel! We had horses a lot of years and still have and milk our Nubian dairy goats. The spray that works for us is to take an ounce or two of the old Avon Skin So Soft oil in the spray bottle add water to the top, shake and spray. All of my girls come in on the stanchion so I give them a light spray just before turning them out. Never an issue. The effect wears off in a couple hours or so, but it should be great for milking time.

    I made ricotta (using lemon juice) yesterday! Honestly, all the flies can be awful when milking, we've had some land in the pail and scooped them out quickly. And yes, we've had the cow kick over the pail and stick her hoof in the pail accidentally, then we have to give that to the pigs or chickens. Also, we've used a capful of bleach to clear up our water, good to know hydrogen peroxide is an option.

    Wow! This video was absolutely amazing! I really enjoyed watching and learning all that you have to do. It is a lot of responsibility and you do it with ease! Liked how your cottage cheese looked! I have to say in all honesty I tried to eat cottage cheese and I just couldn’t do it.of course it was store bought!! Yours looked so much more creamer!! ❤

    I think a cow would be a commitment... similar to the dairy goats. I'm finding myself appreciating them (and the commitment) more and more. And raw dairy.... I agree. So healthy. I'll let you keep the cottage cheese though, haha!

    God is good all the time! Thanks for another great video! Back when I had my own home, I used to make my own yogurt. It was delicious and probably the "miss priss" people would say not sanitary enough. I used the pilot light on my water heater to gently warm it overnight and in the morning I had yogurt! Just add fruit or whatever! I didn't have a cow, but i would have loved one, because I lived in a residential neighborhood in the city. I think a cow might want more than a tiny backyard - that's if I could hide it from the neighbors!😅😂
    I don't get tired of hearing you talk about your cows! They're beautiful!
    Oh and I was known as the mean mom because my kids had chores. They were the only ones in the neighborhood that did. 🤷🏼‍♀️
