Being Irish and living in Manchester 23 years, I’ve visited Oldham on a number of occasions - I’ve found this video a little unfair towards the people of Oldham as I’ve found them to be very friendly and welcoming
@@iesroo it was roughly between Jan - March 2020 (before the lockdowns proper started) and I’d mainly visited the centre of the town, on the Tram - I’d had a morning job interview for a nearby Morrisons about 2 tram stops down from Oldham (I forgot to tap out and I had to rush out in the middle of the interview to go back to the tram stop to tap out lol) then on the same day, I had a very strange location interview for Company supermarket at Stakehill industrial estate later on that afternoon (very weird setup, as I”d only recently been made redundant from Tesco after 17 years in Sept 2019) - the local park is lovely there, near the Council offices and the war memorial - Covid was overall a very strange and a very weird time, as even though I’ve always held and renewed an Irish passport the entire time I’d lived in the U.K., the Irish government would not allow me to return home to Ireland to visit my family until August 2022 (from December 2019) as the Irish Covid restrictions were much tougher and lasted far longer than the U.K. (Holyhead in North Wales was very similar to this too) 🇮🇪☘️🇬🇧❤️❤️❤️
Oldham itself is a dump, the surrounding areas are nice, parts of Chadderton, Saddeworth, Royton. Just a shame we got dumped together with Oldham itself as it's a cesspit. Do the Oldham Way (40 mile walk around the outskirts) and you'll see the beauty of it, absolutely stunning a few miles away from the centre.
30 years ago i bought my first house in Oldham. 3 years later i sold it, 5k below market value just so i could escape the place. Although it's only 7 miles from Manchester, it's nothing like M-cr. It's a hill billy town.
You totally missed the elephant in the room. All those white people shown in the video, not many live in Oldham anymore. It has plenty of people who are from Pakistan though. If you want that lifestyle you will have everything you need and enjoy your life in Oldham.
I was one who left Oldham lived there all my life till 2008 n was glad to be out of there n hmm sexual offences no mention of the grooming gangs in Oldham either I see
I grew up in Oldham in the 70's. It used to be a nice town with warm and friendly people and Tommyfield Market was a huge market with great characters. Our proper Lancashire culture made us proud. Sadly it is now a terrible place which is such a shame.
Why don't you mention the demographic polarisation. I live on the outskirts,only go in to visit my bank,and i feel like i am living in Bangladesh.. Economically this has been a huge impact. Plus it has been a Labour stronghold for too long. Sad!
@@moheedur-rehman6585are you from Oldham? The town centre is predominantly black/Asian. St Mary's, Hathershaw, Coldhurst, Glodwick etc. Only white place near centre is Derker and that's being diversified now
I lived in Oldham for 65 years and watched it change from being a hardworking mill town full of friendly people to a complete crime ridden shithole. The Council has always been Labour, and it's the council that have been responsible for the constant succession of money wasting exercise's and appallingly poor decisions. The Traffic system has been updated time and time again with each upgrade being an even bigger failure than the last one. The revamp of the Oldham / Rochdale railway loopline into a Tramway was completely unnecessary. It took years and years to complete and it closed off the main street with almost all the businesses going bankrupt. Trying to drive through Oldham is now a totally frustrating experience. Best thing about Oldham though is leaving the place. It's a sheer joy after fighting your way through the appalling road system that was designed by complete idiots.
I’m from Wigan and I remember visiting a couple of times many years ago (1980s). My school friend originated from there and had extended family there so I was invited to go on the family trips. I remember we used to go to Tommyfield Market. It was a really big place. Don’t know if it’s still there? x
@ashleighcampbell1664 Glodwick is a part of Oldham where a friend and me were racially attacked, punched, kicked and forced to flee, that was back in the 90s. In the 2000s, there were riots there that made International headlines.
Don't know who made this film, but it was not all filmed in Oldham. That said, its been made into cess pit. I'm glad I moved away. Its a foreign place now, metaphorically and physically. Its run by VERY shady people. This a prime example of what the future will be for many towns and cities because of unfettered immigration.

Are you a hermit? I've worked on the streets across Oldham and most households were white English households so god knows what you're talking about.
