The grappling hook part sold me on this. It's far cheaper than the crovel, too. It may lack a spike for breaking rocks or lacks cutting power, but there are other tools for that. Definitely worth $50
Pedro Henrique R. de Oliveira No idea. But if it can support him, I am reasonably sure it can support a normal man (as long as he's fit and no taller than 6'1 by my guess) and would definitely work with a woman, or younger person.
I never thought to use it as a seat! Genius. I just tried it out and it is very comfortable, as you say. This is great. I never have to bring a chair camping again! Thank you
Absolutely hilarious and informative! One thing I will say tho: to anyone getting an "E-tool" from a company, make sure that the nut that tightens the blade and handle is made out of the same metal as the rest of the shovel. I had a cheap knockoff in the scouts where this nut was plastic, and the rest of the metal was some kind of light-weight aluminum alloy. First time I tried to dig a campfire hole, the whole shovel bent and broke in several places! So take it from my life lesson that it pays to insist upon high-quality materials and the most rigorous testing conditions. You gotta look for high-carbon steel and all-metal construction, and then you have to torture test your purchase as much as you can before calling upon it in an emergency.
I've found another good use. Turn handle 90 and use as a way to crawl across rough terrain. Put your weight on the handle use your other hand for balance. I used this method to army crawl across broken glass and gravel under briars.
F-Yeah! I've got my my 83 Ames. Thanks for showing. Shows all those plastic e-tool people you cant do everything with a Glock or Gerber E-tool what you can do with a good ol' AMES
I got the same one but is made by LHB. U.S.. it is said to be made of the exact same material just another company with U.S. military contract. It works great The best shovel you can get.
If put in the 'hoe' position and shovelhead stumped into ground; the etool makes a lightduty winch anchor, allowing winching out of ice/snow/sand for ATV/CAR/LIGHT TRUCK. Use handle as winch point.
Will using the e-tool as a grappling hook damage the hinge? I'm concerned that the little piece of metal being held in place by the tightened nut will become worn down to the point where it may eventually give way either during use or otherwise, but at that point the e-tool wouldn't be able to be used as a grappling hook anymore...

I wonder how much weight it can support, any idea?

My dad broke his while digging a hole but I do not know what the weight was
Great point about the machete not being image friendly.

This is one of the best entrenching tool videos on TH-cam. Great presentation, hits all of the points, and gives examples. Also, etools for life.

I've gotten one of these, but never realized all the amazing things you could do other than digging. Nice video!
Thanks for teaching me what else this shovel can do. I bought it to keep in the car in case I get stuck in snow.

US paratrooper said he would destroy one whenever he made a combat pit, chopping trees.
I had one of these years ago and some jack wagon stole my truck and when I got it back my etool was gone....
Im 11and own one of these #best weapon for zombie apocalypse
gold
Just a quick question, how sharp is the serrated part of the shovel? I'm just a bit afraid it might be too sharp to swing around aggressively.
The serrated part isn't sharp at all its meant to clear roots and brush like a machete for foxholes under trees or if you find a root when digging
