    You are exactly what I needed and people needs. You are not just talking about how to produce music for me. I can see there is a real investigation, questioning your emotions and finding step by step the consequent response of thoughts and doing so creating a way for finding a solution to any problem that may come up. I really appreciate you and your work. Thank you for inspiring me. All this said. I'm going to try to produce something. Thank you again for all your help. Bye Davide

    Holy Shit. I searched 2 hours through YT for Mindset Videos on music production, because I felt that I need some words from someone to feel not alone in struggeling with this. I find myself so often in this situation: Opening my laptop, starting Ableton and after 2 hours of attempts to produce, completely hate myself, delete everything and thinking about changeing my hobby.
    But I just lack structure and feel overwhelmed. Thanks for this point of view. Didn't expected the tears, that came due to the relief I felt, when you offered this perspective

    I used to go crazy trying to do all sorts of effects and use different devices modulation and fancy stuff and sometimes it worked and other times not. I keep things simple theses days focusing on melody and cords being nice and everything else is just to compliment that.

    I love how much you understand the background of the whole process from a psychological perspective.
    I had a huge problem with creating stuff in general, letting it be videos or music because I just get frustrated and give up. The attention span thing also came to hit me hard with my ADHD but I've been trying a lot of things to help increasing it because I want to do these things, I don't want to just give them up just because I'm in the beginning and I feel overwhelmed
    Thanks for the quality video, sir!

    what your talking about is moving propositional knowledge into the procedural. Whats interesting is that different hemispheres of our brain control different functions like this, very realited to muscle memory as well. your left hemisphere works as far as i understand very much in the propositional knowledge side and your right hemisphere works in the procedural imagistic side. there are practical ways you can focus on using your right and left hemispheres optimally for music production such as
    - refrain from mixing while making the core idea of a song, mixing is a very technical and precise skill which is not focused on the right hemisphere which will be working harder when your coming up with the idea for the track. (also a idea i have is why many professional mixing engineers are not professional artist and why often professional artist dont touch that technical mixing side)
    - hum and melody to yourself or listen to other music and try to "latch on" to a feeling or vibe, picking every sound or note placement moving towards that feeling, dont worry about mixing at all.
    there are probably way more practical ways but the reason i learned about this was when i was in college i was learning computer programming and art at the same time and realized it was nearly impossible to work or multitask on both, this was not a coincidence its literally just the way the human brain works.
    so the idea is dont work against the way your body works, dont try to mix while making music, actively quiet the analyzing part of your brain when you want make a song because if you analyze every microdescision you will never be able to make a song.
    anyways hope this helps someone, if you want to learn more i recommend studying ian migilchrist, he does very in depth study on how the brain works in this way.

    • @fiko_music
      @fiko_music  ปีที่แล้ว

      Damn I love this kind of comment. That's so interesting. I didn't really know exactly the terminology but I always felt whenever I was mixing that my creativeness would go away for some reason. And this scales on a bigger level. There would be weeks that I'm focused on the business side of music production "Making packs, fixing the website, marketing bla bla bla" And there would be weeks that I make music 8 hours a day. As you said, combining computer programming with art it's kinda a pain in the ass because you are shifting in between the creative side and the "robotic" side.
      Well this is my own interpretation of what you said, I don't know if it's true or not ;D Do you have any good sources about this topic? I kinda wanna get more into it : )

    This is the video I was looking for!
    I was literally suffering, I was messed up with my music stuff and started feeling overwhelmed and irritated on side. But through this video you reflected me my love for music, how much I love it and even I'm much better than who I was in back 1 year.
    I can't leave music just because I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed, coz I love it that's why I started! I just can't leave it.
    Thanks a lot Fiko for this Inspiring video❤

    I gotta say, insanely relatable situation you were in and the video was very helpful for me in my situation right now. It really does take patience, go detailed - don't take short cuts - it will hurt you in the long run. Everything you said was so true, like about our attention spans, how the world is working these days and how people aren't focused anymore - including me to be honest. And the best way to get better at even the hardest things is to go through shitty times and doing them all over and over again and eventually you'll get better. This really helped me and gave me a sort of direction to go for the next few weeks, it's almost like you are my car driving instructor, but I'll have to see for myself if I will really focus or not. Thanks a lot again, love all the stuff you've been putting out lately, music and also content wise.

    This is a such a good video. Thanks for that.
    I have been trying to produce for the last 6 months and all the thoughts you mentioned, are currently with me as well.
    There is always something to learn, tweak, change and etc. which makes the whole process overwhelming.
    I have deleted countless projects, because I’ve felt overwhelmed and at that time it felt, it was easier to start over than to try to fix/upgrade the current project.
    Keep on giving such banger videos. It it is a whole different side of music production, that really needs to be discussed and you’ve mastered it perfectly.

    This was really helpful I make everything VERY complicated and thus end up overwhelmed with the process it takes me way too long to finish tracks (thanks to my IDM and progressive influences) so looking at weak points and working on those specifically Im DEF going to do that. Was also thinking about setting a workflow checklist so I dont get lost in sound design when trying to arrange etc. Its def about patience and thinking things through. I appreciate you for doing this video.

    13:33 idk if that's intended, something that happened by chance or just me tripping about some sounds of the background track in the video, but there is a phone buzzing like sound that fits SO MUCH with the topic you're talking about. If you did put that there consciously, that's a 10/10 way of making a point.
    As always, a wonderful video, big on the learning about music production stuff and even more so for what concerns the mindset needed to accomplish such task.
    The talk about the current social media "development" is a much needed discussion that people have to face and too often just ignore for the sake of the serotonin printing device we all have in our hands so often in our daily lives

    • @fiko_music
      @fiko_music  ปีที่แล้ว +1

    As someone, who plays guitar in a band as a hobby for two decades (not, that i'm good) and started to get into synths + a little home studio like half a year ago, this is what i needed to hear.
    I want to do some electronic and/or guitar music on my own and as soon as i'm capable, i want to record my band. I think it'll take a little longer, than i thought.
    Probably doesn't help i'm learning a second instrument too.
    I recorded a few (half finished) ideas already and will continue to do so, when the creative spark hits me, but i should start to finish the ideas i already started, with a similar structure like this.
    Thanks. Great advice.

    I dont need to learn how to master a skill, I need to learn how to have motivation to believe ideas will come, because I have the potential to make great things it's just blank. And I have to wait for those ideas to come. and when they do come its at times where I am unable to make music. and then it's like, how can I possibly create the synth/sound I hear in my head when there's no tutorials about it sometimes?

    • @fiko_music
      @fiko_music  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I understand what you are talking about and I've had the same mindset the past years. But thinking that way definitely did not help me with music production at all. Because I would always depend on motivation to hit. And whenever it hit me, plenty of times I didn't know how to convert that motivation into a song. So I changed my approach. I started making music no matter how I felt. Either I felt motivated or not. Either I felt happy or not. Either I felt confused or overwhelmed. Every single emotion has it's own abilities and interpretation. And yeah, practice makes perfect. And that's what I've learned. The more I practiced and moved towards mastering Music Production the easier for me it was to convert that motivation into a full song ! : )

    One thing I'd like to share with you is to track your energy levels throughout the day. What you'll notice is that time flies when you're having fun, and we tend to get stuck with things we don't want to do when we're at the lows, which tends to feel like it's taking for ever. Once you've tracked peaks and lows, do the things you hate (mastering your skills) at highs and things you love at lows(production). Time management increases productivity.

    Thank You. This helped me today, as i had a hard time the last days. I often Have those thoughts you mentioned: how fucked up am i sitting hours and hours on my computer, making no or little progress at all? this will never lead anywhere, nobody will hear my music and like it, the people will run of the dancefloor to the bar(i make psychedelic trance, so the prupose of it is kinda getting people to dance at a party). my bass sounds like shit, i will never get it right. I am wasting my time on this.
    But you are right. the only way to achieve something (in ANY skill) is to go through this. To feel the frustration and to overcome it. There is no easy road. there is no secret hidden something (well maybe for the top 5 percent of artists there might be some specialingredient, but my point is that everyone with the dedicationa nd time can make great music after enough practice).
    While I know/felt most of what you said already, it really helped me that you told it to me in your specific way on this exact day where my confidance is brittling.
    Thank you a lot.

    Great Video! Structure is very important in music production. I like that the second thing that you said was Learn Music Theory. That gives you the main structure. If you are going to make music, then you need to know what is harmony, and harmonic speech. Having a pre-selected start-up list of plugins ready to run when you open your daw is very useful too. I use Fl Studio, and made a template with Keyscape, some drums and a bass. Ready to go😎

I know that some people will put out this info and advice for people that they're not doing themselves, and that can lead to feeling like" I tell people to do this, but I'm not actually doing this or done this myself". And that could feel like putting too much pressure on yourself to act on the advice you're giving out. Not saying it relates to you, but just wanted to put it out there. Keep grinding! :D
