Glad it worked! That works when the hoses are primed. When setting up a new canister (any brand) just do the same thing, no water in the canister, place the outflow and inflow tubes in the tank and push the priming button a few times and it will fill by gravity, then plug it in. If you cannot make the priming button work, then get the output out and suck a few times until water starts to fill the filter. You will not inhale any water because there will be no water in the tubes and filter. These two never fail.
Thanks. Yeah I figured it the new install as well after thinking about it after the fact. That's why I put the notice up in post-production. But it definitely is easier
I don’t know if you’ll see this, but why do you mean by sucking the tube? Won’t crud and whatnot get in my mouth? I just don’t know what I’m doing wrong. I can’t get the output to actually start sucking in water.
@@robertmcgormley3446 Hi! Nothing will get in your mouth because everything, output, input and canister should be EMPTY. So, you connect both hoses to canister, place the input in the aquarium and then…. Aspire, suck the air from the output until you see that the water is flowing from the tank through the input hose to the canister… it is then that you place the output in the tank, no need to hurry, where you want it. You will hear the water filling up the canister… when the noise stops you plug the canister to the electrical outlet. It will always work, guaranteed. It works in any canister because it is just basic physics.
Excellent video I grabbed a magniflow 220 last week on sale and have been delaying the setup due to hearing about the difficulties priming and wondering if I should return it for something else. This has really put my mind at ease and I'm going to go try this setup now much more confident
Yeah it's a pain in the butt to prime. This method seems to have mixed experiences as well. 🤷♂️ It worked fine for me before I stopped using it and just went HOB. It works, but isn't the greatest by any means.
Well it worked for you but in my case it did not. I did everything you did in this video and the hoses were primed. I still had to use the primer to get flow. It is brand new just got it. I tried everything to get it to work. This is not a negative comment towards you and thank you for your video. After many attempts and taking it apart and putting it back together. I filled it with water and started a siphon on the inlet and priming it about 10x it started working. Thanks for your video.
I just pump water directly into inlet tube using separate pump. Turn filter on. Water then forces it's way though canister to outlet via the pump and filter operating. Turn pump off and filter is good to go on its own then on. That prime button is inconsistent. Works sometimes, others not. Found this to be easier.
It seems like a lot of methods work for some and not others, even the included method on the unit itself. But this way I demostrate here did work great for me when I had it,
Yeah, it was easy. Water just start gushing down the moment the connection caught. I was going by other suggestions with the water in the thing when I started with the cannister. But yeah, let the siphon do your work
when you bought it brand new since there was no water in the inlet/outlet hoses did you have to manually add water to the canister before plugging it in and if so how much water would you fill it with?
When I first put it together, I filled it up and had to prime it. I'm not sure now if doing that would work or not. It was a tough prime doing so. I'm thinking now it might be better to leave it empty if the priming pulls water from the tank. But if it primes it up the outflow, then filling would work. 🤷♂️ I'd have to look at the direction of the priming function
Is there a trick to lifting it once it's full of water? I have a bad back and have a hard time lifting it up and out of the cabinet. It needs a handle.
Definiteily not the best, but for the price I got it at it wasn't bad. But I see a common theme on this. You pump the priming button, it works or doesn't work depending on the person. You can use the method in this vidoe and it works or doesn't work depending on the person. I guess maybe you should try jumping around on one foot while touching your nose and pressing the button, maybe that would work. But after reading a lot of comments, I wouldn't recommend this filter.
Never had an issue with noise. Only issue I've had was if the water level gets too low(tank evaporates water like crazy) it leaks. Only leaked twice and never replaced anything and hasn't leaked when I had water to the brim of the tank. 🤷♂️
@@AquariumThoughts yes I finally got it going I have a turtle that use to be the size of a quarter now is as huge as my hand and I tried so many filters ,this one thought other than priming it 100 times finally got it going and I love it her water is so clear but ty for answering:)
Mines got stuck how can i get it un stuck. I cleaned my whole tank and also the filter and i was ready to turn on my filter but it wont suck water into the filter and my button is stuck help me out
I'm not sure I would be much help with that problem. I know the button was hard to press at times in general. If you let the canister "self-prime" by leaving the canister with no water, water should have filled the tubes to make it work. Other than that, I would start with taking it apart again and make sure everything is seated correctly. 🤷♂️ Other than that you can troubleshooting it through Google. I'll have to look into that myself when I'm not at work
I have two baby turtles in a 20 gallon tank with this filter. I bought it four months ago and I cleaned the filter about a month ago as well. Recently I noticed the water flow from it has reduced a lot. I cleaned the tubes and still no luck. Does anyone know exactly why it’s doing this? I have a feeling the actual filter needs a clean again.
I feel like the hardest and most non-explanative part was cut out. That being the disconnecting of the tubes without getting water everywhere. Why was this part not filmed? Onto another video I guess.
I guess I could have filmed that. Though on this model, it had been a non-issue as you disconnect the hose connector and it closes. Very minimal water flow out. I might have a video cleaning the unit which may include that part Edit: I didn't find that video.
No water will spill if you follow the directions, may be a couple of drops but all canister filters are equipped with some sort of on/off valve that allows to retain water in the hoses until you connect it again to the filter. Once connected and opened/unlocked, water will flow and you can restart the filter again. There is no reason to spill water if you use the system properly.
It only worked that time because the hoses were filled with water. LoL You didn’t need to be told that, you would’ve discovered it accidentally when you re-opened the valves. Oh wait, that’s exactly what happened. LoL, welcome to the hobby.
Perhaps I would have discovered this by accident at some point if I wasn't filling the canister prior to re-connecting it. Simple forgetfulness about the principles of a siphon that isn't noticed because you see things done one way and you continue that way over and over again without getting to the point of seeing the other way that works better. Thanks for always looking at the bright side of life. 👍
If the hoses already have water in them and the ends are fully submerged, water should flow downwards into the empty canister and start a siphon which will fill the canister with water. It should be primed to go. If it's a fresh start with no water in the hose, that will not occur. I'm guessing priming an empty canister might actually be easier than doing it with water if it siphons the water down but haven't tested it to see if that works. 🤷♂️. But if you feel anything of this is wrong, then feel free to explain why it's wrong and doesn't work, but it worked for me at least from after cleaning the canister, not from the fresh start. This video was actually created because of a comment correcting me in a previous video. The correction worked and is in the video.
Sorry to hear about your problems with it. It's been pretty rock solid for me. Though, I do have to keep an eye on my water level. If it gets too low, water leaks out of the seals. Personally though, if I didn't get it for free I probably would only be using the Seachem Tidals on the tank
I'm guessing this comment had to do with your other comment on this same video that I've already responded to, but feel free to correct what I might have got wrong. Thanks

Nice! I never added water when I ran my cascade. It usually primed easy. Never even thought about it. 🤷🏽♂️

thanks worked didn't have to pump it once
Thank you TONS!!!! System has never run this quietly.
Glad to help!
Easiest and fastest way 2 prime this system hand down👌👌👌👌

Have you checked the impeller to see if there;s a clog in there?
I did that. Nothing is working.
Definitely Easy Way 2 Prime As Others Keep Saying 2 Add With Tank Water BUT 👎👎👎😫 Your Empty Way Is Best / Easiest Lets Gravity Do all the Work👍👍👍😁🇨🇦
