The new firmware update arrived yesterday (at least for the US) and significantly improves the touch screen response.

In today’s video I’m sharing my thoughts on the new GoPro HERO 9 letting you know what’s new compared to last years GoPro HERO 8, to help you decide which one is right for you and if you already have the Hero 8 whether the Hero 9 is a worthwhile upgrade. New Firmware has been released today, so I will do an update video later this week to confirm if it fixes the touch screen and some of the other bugs I talk about in this video. Let me know any questions you have. Links to current pricing in video description discounts on GoPro website if you go for the GoPro subscription. As always thanks for watching :-)

Another great video, really informative. You seem to have some of the same gripes I have with Gopro products.

Thanks Alex, yes I think I’m going to make a short video with what I think about GoPro generally, was going to include a rant in this one about their customer service etc, but will save it for another day 🤣

    Great informative video, thank you!
I want to buy my parents a GoPro for Christmas and they have a few deals that I would appreciate your opinion on! I would also occasionally use the camera but they would mostly use it on cruises and trips they go on.
The GoPro website has a bundle for $349.99 where you get the Hero 9 with a 1 year subscription to GoPro and it also includes an extra battery, 64GB SD Card & a camera case.
BestBuy also has a bundle deal on the Hero 8 where you pay $299.99 and you get the Hero 8, an extra battery, 32GB SD card, head strap and a shorty (mini extension pol + tripod)
Which do you think would be the better camera to get for my parents? Thanks!

I think either is a pretty good deal but it will depend on how they/you are going to use it.
If the front screen on hero 9 is important and something they will use lots - or you/they may be worried about cracking the front element of the hero 8 then go for the 9 because the ability to replace that front element cheaply and easily doesn’t exist on hero 8. The battery life is also better on the 9 meaning they won’t have to carry so many extras.
Other than those main differences, the image quality and audio I’ve found to be pretty similar, stabilisation is still great on hero 8 and it’s overall smaller/lighter so more pocketable for travelling.
It’s worth looking at the gopro subscription small print too, because it has quite a few caveats. For example you have to pay a fee of $99 when “trading in” your broken camera. Either is a great camera for capturing travel etc though.
Other thing to consider is that they will continue to release updates for the 9 so hopefully it will get better and better during 2021.
If you go for the bundle with 32gb card I’d recommend getting an extra 64gb card as the 32gb will get eaten up pretty quick.
      Hope that helps a bit?

@@cameracravings3216 Thank you for the in-depth insight, I appreciate it. I ended up purchasing the Hero 9 bundle because I believe the would love the front screen plus the extra features the camera has to offer. The bundle also comes with the extra battery which will be handy and the 64GB SD card for lots of storage, can't wait to crack it open and use it.

Nice review but too long - summary and conclusions 5 mins should be 30sec or less.

So far the new update has not fixed the scheduled capture issue. I will try again.

Yeah thanks Scott, always good to share experiences unit to unit - just downloaded the update and playing around with it the touchscreen is much better but still not perfect. My scheduled capture seems to work ok in video and timelapse modes so far (when just setting a few minutes in the future to test), but need to actually try it overnight for a sunrise or something to see if it fails again?

@@cameracravings3216 I tried for the sunrise this am since I am on a work trip. All set up at 10pm to come on at 645am. Nothing !!! How can they advertise a feature that does not work? 👎

Hmm 🤔 I did the same, setup last night around 10pm to come on just after 7am this morning for a 15min timelapse (camera only had 21% battery when I setup last night) - it worked and recorded a timelapse. It was setup indoors with suction cup on window, so maybe that’s why it was ok? Was yours setup outside? Maybe it’s killing the battery out in the cold or maybe your unit is faulty? Either way it’s annoying. Hope you can get it sorted.
