  • I got this on sale thinking it might be fun! It's been the bane of my existence ever since. It has spent more time on the bench than it has on the trail! Shame on you FMS you can do better!

    Thx so much for sharing the fun you have had with this model!
    I thought I was the only one to slide down a sht’y slope as you have.
    I have better things to do than to bring a sub-par orphan home and throw time and money at it to maybe experience a pleasurable vibe for just a few minutes!
    I understand that stuff happens by defect. But if it is under engineered which you have shown then it isn’t worthy as a recreational toy.
    I have close to a dozen 1/10, 1/18, 1/24 scale rc toys from top of the line manufacturers.
    This brand isn’t going to be a dependent of mine 🤨.

      It's a shame, because it is a fun truck. Unfortunately it does have some weak areas, but it's major achilles heel is the plastic ring and pinion gears. Now I've installed sxc24 portals and a trx4m transmission it's a blast to drive out on the rocks with! Thanks for watching, and taking the time to comment. I do appreciate it!

    I feel your pain. I just bought the Cheyenne 6x6 and got maybe 4 minutes on it before the motor went in it jump through every hoop. FMS has asked me to do for videos on what's wrong with it and they just offered me $4.99 for the motor and the motor was hot and the ESC was hot. Take care

    • @havikhobbies
      @havikhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Ahh yes, I have also jumped through these same hoops with FMS. When I bought my FCX24 the transmitter was faulty (you could wave it like a magic wand and the truck would move!) And the stock servo not only stripped out the horn, but would just sit there and jitter like crazy at idle! Three videos and 13 emails later they did send me all the parts needed to repair the truck. Their customer service leaves a lot to be desired! I'm sorry you also had a poor FMS experience!

    I just bought the same truck for Father’s Day well it was free. Anyway I was excited about it and took it out to drive and I don’t know why but it had no power on the littlest inclines it just didn’t seem to want to move so I increased the throttle setting just to make it up but when it came to reverse it didn’t have any juice. Long story short I ended up resetting the throttle and all seems to be working just fine. When all this was going on I was very disappointed told my wife now I see why it was free. All jokes aside I do love it and my k5 but I’m more into the trx4ms I have 7 of them. Fms for me they make cool stuff but just not as durable. Sucks to hear about your unit.

      In all honesty I wasn't expecting much from this truck. I picked it up knowing that it would require work to get it running to my standards, I guess I just didn't expect it to be a complete piece of junk! Seven TRX4M's wow you really must love the platform! I must admit I'm not a diehard Traxxas fan boy but I do really enjoy my Trx4m Bronco. It's a simple well designed truck that crawls so well! Thanks for hanging out mate!

    I got mine around the same time, I didn’t even use this truck out of the box. Remove the axles and replace with fcx24 axles, remove the transmission and ESC and replace it with a Furitek Stinger brushless system, axle mounted high torque servo and some better wheels with tires. I know for the same price after upgrades you can buy a Cayman 6x6 ( I have two of them ) but I like challenges, now this Atlas 6x6 it's as capable or better than any of my other 6x6’s. If you're gonna buy it and don't do upgrades or do light upgrades don't waste your time. It is a nice platform to start your own DIY project.

    • @havikhobbies
      @havikhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I've already wasted time keeping this POS In one piece. I'm sticking with the TRX4M transmission for now and it's on the bench torn apart and getting SCX24 portal axles swapped in. Hopefully that will eliminate any week areas! I'll swap out the stock servo for something different as well. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video, thanks mate!

  • @JD-tl7ld
    @JD-tl7ld ปีที่แล้ว +2

    My Atlas didn't lack power, but the trans was warped from being over tightened. I opted for the upgraded Rockvan motor and trans with the steel gears. It was direct replacement. Passed the warped trans, my biggest gripe is the tires. They suck for everything beyond carpet running.
    When the trans took a dump, I bought all the parts to replace the whole drive line. I think should I have anymore issues though, I'm going to put sxc24 portals on it.

    • @havikhobbies
      @havikhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not a huge fan of the CR24/18 driveline. I finally have the truck running reliably with the TRX4M transmission and stock axles. Swapped out the tires and wheels and it's a pretty capable little rig! Will have a video soon showing what I did to get it to hold together!

  • @JUSTHAVEFUNRC
    @JUSTHAVEFUNRC ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I wouldn’t touch the atlas with a 6 foot pole. Though I did grab it’s cousin the hobbyplus 6x6. Better electronics and tires and that’s about it. I bought it and also bought the metal trans in anticipation of the trans gear self destructing. I got maybe 30 minutes.
    As far as axle ring and pinion. I think the furitek rampart ring and pinion fits these axles which are the same as the element enduro24’s. But they’re $25-30 USD and you’d need 4 sets. At that point I’d just do an axle swap. Fcx24 axles or scx24. Scx24 axles would make it super easy since they’re are a bunch of passthrough options.

    • @havikhobbies
      @havikhobbies  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah it's not a fantastic platform, it's a shame really. It's fun to drive while it's running! Mine is now running the TRX4M transmission and scx24 portal axles. I read others were using the Furitek gears, but didn't want to put $100 into axles gears alone! MoFo RC sells generic nylon scx24 portal axles and a full set for a 6x6 came out to $60 including shipping, not to bad really. If I did it again I would have built an scx24 based 6x6 from scratch! Thanks for hanging out!

    Thanks for your honest reviews. I have bought my first fms, the k5. I love the looks and how it performs for what it is, but have had some issues with it which I didn't expect. Only thing I can't get sorted is the enormous slop in the drivetrain. It's worth than in any of my 1/10 rigs and really frustrating on dificult sections where it just rolls after every forward/rearward movement. My scx24 rigs are the most rewarding little rigs to crawl. They gave great control.

    • @havikhobbies
      @havikhobbies  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks I really appreciate the feedback. I also noticed the sloppy driveline when I got my first FCX24 Power Wagon. I think the play in the driveline is just a side effect of having lots of gears in the transmission/portals. I've only bought 2 FMS trucks and both have had issues out of the box. My FCX24 had a twitchy servo and a transmitter you could wave like a magic wand and the truck would move! I was taken care of under warranty but was an exercise in patience getting my point across, and you've seen how I feel about the Atlas 6x6! Lots of people on TH-cam getting free shit and don't want to do a totally honest review because they want to keep getting free shit!

      FMS has a 1/18 (ROC HOBBY) Cheyenne 6x6 on their website. It looks like metal gears are an optional upgrade. Which ever 6x6 vehicle you choose I'd definitely make sure metal gears are Included or at least optional! Hobby plus also has a CR18P 6x6 but it looks like it shares the same weaknesses as the Atlas. The Furitek Cayman 6x6 (its expensive $$$$) is based on FCX24 Axles which are proven, however I have not personally tested this truck myself. Thanks for watching!

      @@havikhobbiesI had a cr18 6x6. Vastly better electronics (super similar to first gen fcx24). But the same weak transmission and differentials. Better tires and It’s cheaper than the atlas though.
      Just expect to at minimum swap the transmisison out. I bought a metal gear trans when I bought my truck Becuase I knew it was going to happen. I got maybe 30 minutes before it started doing the click of death. Though I am admittedly a little rough with my trucks.
      Also you might be able to shoehorn the 2 speed full metal gear, 130 size 100t setup from the new cr18p evo into the atlas. But the weak axles persist.

      Thank you! Paid reviews that make a product look good when it's not are not helpful to the community. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The traxxas Trx4m electronics have been solid for me and I've not had any problems except for the stock servo stripped the gears on the second battery pack! FCX18 electronics in the LC80 have also been trouble free, Transmitter is a good size and has lots of programmable features. The stock servo saver is weak and limits steering, but FMS makes an Aluminium servo horn that would take care of that! I hope that helps! Thanks for watching.

    Total piece of junk. I watched all the wrong review videos which praised this thing and bought one. Loud, whiny esc. Gets super hot and all the gears are made of what's best described as candy. My motor got so hot, it warped the motor plate. This was my 1st mini crawler, so I invested in upgrades like a Hobbywing 1060 esc and motor which worked great until I changed tires which stripped the axle gears and transmission gears. Upgraded to all metal gears and it's now serviceable but in hindsight, I would've invested in an SCX24 based custom 6x6. Would have been less expensive and better performaning truck. The Furitek monster truck ring and pinions are compatible (but expesnsive) and I believe the newer CR-18 gears are a cheaper alternative now. Cool looking little truck, but it needs so many upgrades to make it reliable and fun. Even the Furitek Cayman 6x6 would ultimately be a cheaper 6x6 in the long run.
