I remember Ice using the Zelda - Sheik transformation style while in the heat of battle quite often (in some European Smash VODs and especially Apex 2015 match vs HBox recorded with a hand camera)

I think the reason people get so mad at sheik mains is because of:
A) The ability to abuse tactics (said by Kira @ 5:19) that are high reward low risk
B)The low technical/conceptual skill cap for such tactics
I think its B) that gets people so mad. There are many top tier characters who have abusable tactics but go unhated because of their high (or higher at least) skill cap.

Sheik is too easy! You don't have to spend hours learning how to multishine, jab-upsmash, and sh double laser... Because obviously tech skill is the only thing you need to be a good player in this game.

On Top Level of Play, sheik is definitly not an easy charackter. She of Course has her pros and on low Level of Play it is easier for charackters like Marth, Falco, Sheik. But if you are crying about jab upsmash then simply do the claw. Further more sheik is a very fast Charackter and the fast falling Speed with sheik is the same as with fox and they both have a jumpsquat of 3 Frames which makes nair out of Shield SHFFL not so easy to execute. Just learn the matchups between Charackters.

I would actually say-auto-combo more means the combo more or less autopilots with button spam. Like with Marth you basically can "combo" by spamming a with the control stick.

It's interesting that you said Sheik was an "easy" character. I started playing Melee competitively a month ago and back then I played as Sheik because her tools were so strong and required almost no tech skill. As my tech skill became more solid I felt limited by her and have since moved on to Falco. However, that transition took a substantial amount of practice since Falco is a more tech heavy character.
kinda surprised to see that sheik has a reputation of dumb character when marth has no advanced techniques and auto cancel aerials

marth does have advanced techniques like a tipper fsmash on that one standing frame when dash dancing..
I wouldn't say marth is harder. He has way safer approach options, which means he has the option to go aggro if his opponent starts camping him out. Also he handles pressure much easier because his fair is a "jack of all trades" when it comes to trading hits, it always trades positively if you just space your distance correctly. You can't really say the same thing about Sheiks nair or ftilt.

I'm really sick of sheik haters(or haters of any character really). If you are really complaining, you aren't good enough to be complaining. That simple. I don't even main sheik, but it seems that different people get pissed at whoever i play. And don't even get me started on "tier-whore" haters.
I don't complain about fox because I think he's op. I complain because melee gets boring when every single friendly I play at a tournament is against fox.

do not listen to kira. DIing away from sheik's dthrow makes the chaingrab work at higher percentages. if you play marth the chaingrab only works on you if you DI away from her. do not mindlessly DI away against sheik. Especially as yoshi, because you can just double-jump out at 20% or something and djc a falling u-air or n-air.

Ok i'm not denying that it looks like the only way to win is be hbox and bair your way to victory, but it's confirmation bias, the character itself is fine and has the capacity to play super lame, but it isn't a necessity, there's only 4 or 5 good puff players (besides hbox ) compared to the shitton of fox falco marth players, and it's not like their fundamentals are the greatest (except for tekk) so it's hard to judge, but i'm leaning for puff being non-lamely viable.

As a casual player who plays with other casual players, I do find her to probably be the best casual character in the game. Racks up tons of damage easily, super fast, moves come out fast, etc. But I can see how things are 100% different from the actual competitive standpoint of people who actually know how to play the game serious.

im a shiek main and her combo game is linear most of the time but her Dair and soft hits make her combos hard, fun and rewarding when you get them.... her reverse fair is gorgeous mid combo

Honestly, the only people who really hate on sheik are salty idiots who aren't good at the game and think learning how to double shine, wave shine, etc automatically means you should get out of pools at tourneys. They know little of the basics and usually have bad spacing and mindgames. I don't even main sheik but I acknowledge she takes a different set of skills than other characters which many people say makes her easy. These are the same players who likely say KDJ, Ken, and Azen suck and that Hax$, Mang0, and Westballz are amazing and the best.

So, Sheik is this game's equivalent of O.Sagat from SSF2:T: unquestionably a very powerful character, oppressively good against low tiers, makes people really mad if you use her, yet not actually the very best character in the game.

I main Sheik because it's fun as hell. Fox and Falco are really annoying to control (especially falco) and not fun to play as.
I think M2K said that the best shields are Pichu's (for it's character coverage) or Yoshi's (because it is unique and always covers Yoshi, until it breaks).
Between the best characters though, Sheik's is the best.

- just checked and falcon got a 1.5 for recovery as well; idk if sheik's should be 1.5 I feel like a 2 would be sufficient lol; idk how recovery is gauged, but recovering after a deep edgeguard is possible for sheik so I feel like that could be a factor (I know its not recovering exactly when on defense, but I mean falcon will kill himself going too deep for the kill often enough)
- lol hax tier list, not trying to start an argument but it looks like tournament result statistics except jiggs and peach should be switched, but i guess you cant account for the armada factor of skewing things... but then idk axe got pikachu there and amsa with yoshi? not like theres tons of players giving those results and idk where samus is coming from kind of hard to tell, but I guess from a "perfect player" perspective I could see this working out, I wonder if abate vs s2j before the salty suite wouldve changed this up lol

I don't Shino stall for 20 minutes, I don't really tech chase and if I do I usually do it at max 3 times and after that go off a read, or just go off a read right away.
