I purchased the recently released Anbernic RG ARK-S, this is the Linux only version. I said I'd never buy another software emulation handheld, but with this layout, honestly, I could not resist. This review mainly focuses on how well fighting games play and control. There will be dmsome other tests too, but the focus is definitely Fighting Games.

Nice review, I agree that the d-pad and buttons are absolutely killer and make up for the deficiencies of the chip and OS. Just FYI on the games appearing dim, I'm about 99% sure the "Dark Mode" got toggled somehow. You can turn it off by going to Apps > Setup > Dark Mode and simply tapping left.

Great video the only TH-cam video with extensive D Pad testing, I'd love to see similar testing for upcoming handhelds like the 35XXH and rumoured Miyoo Flip
Thanks, it's unlikely I'll get another handheld anytime soon. I got this one for the Dpad and 6 face buttons.
Found this video specifically because I was trying to figure out if this thing could handle CVS2. Thank you both for making the video, and turning on framerate display while testing games.
CvS2 plays surprisingly well, a lot better than expected. Fun fact, I managed to Roll Cancel a few times, but obviously not with my thumb but three fingers instead, not very practical, but I had to try it. The Dpad really is that good.
I have a Steam Deck with Batocera installed as second boot. It is wonderful for emulation gaming. I had no desire to get a standalone handheld like this until the RG Arc-S came out. It has the layout I love and when I looked at it and saw reviews I was thinking Sega Nomad II.
It is great for as you said for Fighting Games - which I love. It is my go to for portable fighting games now. The six face button controller is awesome. I love it for playing Genesis - the Saturn Games I like and others. But mainly - fighting games. Oh- and it has rehooked me on Neo Geo Turf masters.

It's a pretty cool looking little handheld. This is the type of thing I would buy if I was going to go on vacation somewhere and I didn't want to bring my steam deck.

Sensible soccer, is the best football game ever made.
I got mine yesterday and there is a darkening filter applied .... I'll find the exact setting to remove and let ya know then you can overide it across each emulator. Even though it's underpowered it plays what I primarily looking to pick up and play.... I just need to have MvC2 full speed.

I wish I could find a good roms list for this handheld specifically. Like a MUST PLAY ON RG ARC list
You're doing it wrong. Search for must play games for systems this device supports.
The only thing I hate about the saturn style pads are the smaller XYZ buttons. They suck for platformers and even worse for fighting games. The Dpad and ABC buttons are amazing though.
I'm okay with X Y Z for fighters, but agree with you for platformers. They don't work well for say Super Mario World.
These are pretty neat ,I like the white version, looks like the 8bitdo M30..
Definitely feels good in the hands, I'm a sucker for transparent devices, so my first choice of colour was the Linux only model.

I hope they carry this design to a handheld that runs Saturn much better. Other reviews point out it runs just okay with some performance issues, given the hardware its running.

For shadow dancer that’s probably a rom or emulator issue or the stock os itself not the device specs i have shadow dancer on mame in my rg35xx and its running fine no slowdown maybe there’s a filter turn on
It works fine on the CFW
the software is what made me swap to gamma OS... seems easier to use if you have the dual boot version...

Can’t beat a Retroid Pocket 3+ with replaced sticks, but yeah the arcade sticks are always optimum.
The controls on this thing are solid, like proper solid. Real fun to play.
