- Using the example of a parallel plate capacitor being charged by a current, we show how Ampère's law in its original form gives inconsistent results for the magnetic field around the wires, then show how the idea of displacement current can be introduced to fix this problem.
About me: I studied Physics at the University of Cambridge, then stayed on to get a PhD in Astronomy. During my PhD, I also spent four years teaching Physics undergraduates at the university. Now, I'm working as a private tutor, teaching Physics & Maths up to A Level standard.

excellent, i finally understand
I'm glad this helped!
Good explanation of a tricky idea!
Thank you!
This is real intuition !!!
Very nice!
Thanks!
Thanks for another great em video !
Such a great tutorial! Thank you! Now I understand.
Glad to hear that!
Hey ,can you post something about controversey surrounding Ampère/Grassmann's force law?
That's not something I'm familiar with - I will have to do some research!
That escalated quickly
Definitely not a straightforward concept!
So... current into condeser is proportional to the rate of increase of EMF and to the permittivity of a dialectric? Also when capacitor gets charged the current will drop and this will induce more EMF slightly aiding the current, if you make L large enough, can you get the circuit to oscillate? Also, is I/2pi*r = H?
