The more you go down the John Farnham rabbit hole the more amazed you’ll be. I believe he has sung up to a g5, but don’t quote me on that. John has an extraordinary voice that we’ve had the pleasure of for over 50 years. This concert in particular was epic and you could react to every song and be surprised by his epic voice. John can and has sung anything and even sung with Anthony warlow(Australian opera singer) and in this concert did an epic version of it’s a long way to the top(AC/DC) cover.
I was so disappointed when I did this reaction a month ago and it got blocked (first time)….I contested it and 30 days later won by default….glad I could get it out finally and now I can continue down the rabbit hole! Much respect for his talent!! ✌️ ❤️
Great reaction. you are the first i have watched that has really recognised the change in tone of that last "help". thats my favourite note he hits this song.
Black Dog (a sound check that was recorded) or We Will Rock You (fronting Queen post Freddie's passing) for the hard rock, Gethsemane and/or Grenada (with Anthony Warlow) for the Opera, Angels (2000) for the comedy..
Farnham is simply entertainment royalty in Australia. He had a gig for a while as lead singer for the Little River Band. His 'farewell tour' was done to every little town and village in Australia with two circus bigtops. One would be in use while the other leapfrogged over to the next venue and was being set up there ready for the next night. I am sure there are plenty of people who are surprised to learn that the Beatles covered theJohn Farnham song "Help"
John's voice is off the charts. He truly is a much loved Aussie icon. He can sing so many different genres. Take a look at John's cover of Black Dog, audio only as it was only done as a sound check, or Burn for you, a beautiful ballad. By the way he's a tenor. If you want to see him venturing into opera, check out John Farnham and Anthony Warlow singing Granada from a concert called The Main Event.
Edited with info from John's official site (replacing previous reposting from another post) John's vocal range is described as: LOWER range: A2-F3 HIGHER range: A4-G5
Yeah almost everyone can hit a D5…..and F2 is really low for a tenor….. someone else said A2-B5 was his range. I just heard Black Dog and the high note was G5.
This whole concert is unquestionably one of John’s greatest live performances ever. He is an absolutely phenomenal singer who can sing just about anything. John is just one of those performers who gives everything whilst on stage but who is also just a really nice guy who loves his family and who gave up his chance of full international stardom in his prime just so he could stay home with them. That is why he is still, and will always be, Australia’s heart. ❤️
Try When Something Is Wrong With My Baby (Hey Hey Its Saturday version). His duet with Jimmy Barnes. He can sing in about 29 different styles. He is the GOAT
If your thinking country listen to his song 🎵 chain reaction. John is just about the best of the best Aussies. Listen to your the voice. He's been one of our best since the late 60ies. The best live artist I've ever seen ❤️🔥💗💝💖love John farnham.
Thank you, thank you! One of our best ever. Please go down the John Farnham rabbit hole. He can sing anything! You have made my day. Luv from Australia ❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
That one "bluesy" note at the end -! The one where he almost squashes it, then let's it out both sides under great control - total mastery of his vocals and range. Magic. Electric magic. I'm not good at explaining music - I hope I've done this justice. Jan. '24. UK. E❤
That's our John! "The Voice". Yes, can and did sing just about anything. Brilliant singer and song writer and all round thoroughly decent down to earth guy. An absolute Legend here in Aust. { Suggest you listen to his 'Burn For You' he wrote for his wife while out on the road, touring, and missing her. And much more! } 😊
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours. Some have pointed out that this particular recording of the concert was closer to 2 hours of actual singing during the TV special, but it was also on the 4th or 5th night that he had sung like this. Either way, it was one of multiple nights that he did this on January 4-10, 1989, so his voice is still worthy of the accolades. Not many other singers can belt like that for even 2 or 3 nights without a rest. And besides picking at the exact details or this exact performance, Farnsey also has a way of getting deep into the emotions of your soul. A couple of songs worth checking have been mentioned below, plus these are worth a look also. The reason you haven't heard of him is because the US music industry is a closed little club. When John Farnham went to the US they didn't know which genre to put him in so his US promotions manager got him a couple of gigs in a little jazz club, where the MC introduced him as Jack Phantom. Couldn't even be bothered getting his name correct, so being a bit disheartened he wandered home to concentrate on his loyal fan base. The experience did give him inspiration to write a couple of good songs about missing his family, like this one. -Burn For You.. th-cam.com/video/4PPvOhPspEA/w-d-xo.html -Angels.. Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers. JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years. th-cam.com/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/w-d-xo.html -Amazing Grace.. To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa. This is Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field. th-cam.com/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/w-d-xo.html -Please Don't Ask Me.. This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well.. th-cam.com/video/2uV_tZODfK8/w-d-xo.html -When Something Is Wrong With My Baby.... And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar. th-cam.com/video/AU_bCchDWF4/w-d-xo.html Or this version. th-cam.com/video/RAlFHSPLHpo/w-d-xo.html -When The War Is Over… Possibly one of his greatest vocals. th-cam.com/video/lfWrXc5eN8g/w-d-xo.html -Or is the greatest. Gethsemane.. th-cam.com/video/k5woMZtClhI/w-d-xo.html -How about a mike test. He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol Black Dog. th-cam.com/video/F2Yi6TVi-sU/w-d-xo.html Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.
You finally got to John as you promised and I liked your knowledgeable reaction. John Farnham is a vocal gymnast with a big range and wonderful interpretation. He is a tenor who can sing in over 20 genres, from soft ballads to hard rock and everything in between. He is the master of the mike and has his audiences in the palm of his hand. His rapport with them is wonderful. And he is funny as well. He has sung with, and been praised by, famous singers and musicians from around the world. And he is a humble and good man. Always see and hear John LIVE and preferably in concert where his soul shines. John is well-loved in Australia. More of him, please.

@@michaelgoyettemusic Glad you are going to continue to react to John Farnham, Australia's incomparable singer .Looking forward to it. You will find that John's singers and band are top level talent, too, including the piano player whose timing you remarked on - David Hirschfelder, who has written much music including film scores and has won awards.
Hey Michael, great reaction thanks. If you want to hear a great example of Farnesy's range, you really need to listen to his version of LZ's Black Dog. You won't find any video of it as it was only a 'sound-check' that his sound engineer had the initiative to record so we can all hear it. It's epic.
You betchyah he can sing anything! You have a long way to go with Mr. John Farnham. You should do It’s A Long Way (To The Top if You Wanna Rock N Roll) an AC/DC cover? His near 3 octave range meant he could a huge variety of genre. He could sing tenor. He sang part of Granada that was sung by Luciano Pavarotti. He also sang with Ray Charles. His cover ofLed Zeppelin's BLACK DOG is amazing
Ooooof this is a massive warren you’re about to enter. John is the greatest male singer I’ve seen live. He can actually sing anything from Classical/Opera to Soul to Black Dod LED Zeplin, hcover of Black Dog is amazing. Yo
Singers react.. lol.. Not a dry seat in the house.. watching vocal coaches lose their s*(&) watching this is very entertaining. I have read that even 'the beatles' were impressed with this version. Luv your smile throughout the entire song. Very genuine! Maybe - Something is wrong with my Baby - Jimmy Barnes/John Farnham - might interest you. Very Blues/Soul.
A great singer (your right he can and has sung everything). This was the encore at the end of a two hour concert. John is also one of the nicest, most humble performers around.
John Lennon heard this version and thoroughly approved. Said he'd wanted to do the song more like this but producers insisted it be more pop. John Farnham has done everything from opera to ACDC to Led Zeppelin. R&B/soul as well.
Yeah, that note towards the end is just filthy. Love it. Check out his duet with Olivia Newton John called Please Don't Ask Me. Great chemistry. Enjoy the ride ✌️
You will love that song. Great voices, great friends over the years, absolutely unbelievable chemistry. And Granada with Anthony Warlow to verify his operatic cred.
Aussies love some John Farnham, unfortunately he may never sing again after losing a part if his jaw to cancer. I dont know how much but im hopong its minimal and he will return to the stage. Hes been singing my whole life
John can sing anything from rock to opera. Can I suggest the following from the same concert: You’re the Voice It’s a Long Way to the Top (AC/DC cover) Also Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Super Star
So glad another reactor has found John. He is a legend, as all will tell you, but that comes from not just us, but many well-known artists... Tom Jones, Celine Dion, Richard Marx, Sammy Davis Jnr, Ray Charles, Freddie Mercury and many others. And what makes it even better is that he never let success go to his head... in fact, he doesn't even like to watch his video performances. He is a humble, friendly, down to earth, family guy. He was approached to take over for Freddie when he passed, but John declined as he wanted to stick around, closer to his family. After his stint as lead singer for LRB 80-83, he was well aware of what it would be like "touring", while his boys were heading into the teenage years. John turned professional when he was 17 (straight from being a plumber's apprentice), his first song "Sadie" (which he wasn't keen on doing) went straight to the No. 1. He won King of Pop, five consecutive years 69-73, and even with bad management until 1980, managed to achieve the only Australian artist to have a number-one record (album or single) in five consecutive decades (6 if you want to count how the latest Documentary released in May 2023- "John Farnham - Finding the Voice", broke box-office records ( and sent two of his albums back up to the top 20s). Yes, it has just been announced that he is now Cancer Free, and you just never know, he might yet be back with another "last tour" reading from the recent Rolling Stones article... But if not, he has left plenty for us to enjoy. au.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/john-farnham-finding-the-voice-touring-family-interview-49796/?fbclid=IwAR3M8p_07FjmeHnb2uSmuYJYHEca3_Me4LNT4zGz56GNNj8NOjLxsy1i8wk
That’s true…some mics work differently though….some would sound bad if you didn’t get right up to them…in louder bands singing from far back isn’t always appreciated by the sound man. But when the band is balanced it’s ok. Maybe it’s an old school thing? Sinatra et Al also sang with faces showing as does Michael buble. Interesting observation! 🙏 ✌️
You are right - he does a bit of opera with Anthony Warlow (an operatic singer - was in Phantom of the Opera here) it's worth a listen - Also does a cover of 'Black Dog' Led Zepp - One of my personal favorites is a beautiful song he does - 'Burn for you' just with an acoustic guitar - either version - live or official video as good as each other. He also does a great version of 'Somethings wrong with my Baby' with Jimmy Barnes - a must listen

You want high notes...check out him singing When the War is over 2003 version. Or When Something is Wrong with my Baby (duet with Jimmy Barnes)..he hits some crazy notes in that as well. (Hey hey its saturday version)
Oh he is mostly seen as a tenor
Vocal range is from mid 2nd octave to low 6th octave.
Yeah the tenor thing became obvious the more I heard it. I’ll be sure to check out one of those vids. ✌️
@@michaelgoyettemusicawesome. And you are right in that his voice lends itself to many genres. He is very versatile and everything he sings sounds like he is right in that lane.

@@carolynh8866great suggestions Carolyn! I’d also add Angels with Lisa Edwards to that list under Ballards but you’ve pretty much covered them all 😁
I watched Finding The Voice last night, omg it was absolutely brilliant 😭🤩
As the Australian's say he can sing 🔥🇭🇲
They may be right. Jury's out.
Yo. You've done a few Jimmy Barnes songs so you could check out his duet with John Farnham (also featuring "Diesel" on guitar)
"when something is wrong with my baby" which is a 60's blues song by Sam&Dave. It is awesome!
That’s a money note right there!! ✌️
Black Dog (a sound check that was recorded) or We Will Rock You (fronting Queen post Freddie's passing) for the hard rock, Gethsemane and/or Grenada (with Anthony Warlow) for the Opera, Angels (2000) for the comedy..
The Man, The Legend THE VOICE, OUTSTANDING!!!!!
You're right. John Farnham CAN sing anything. Hes amazing.
Edited with info from John's official site (replacing previous reposting from another post)
John's vocal range is described as:
LOWER range: A2-F3
HIGHER range: A4-G5
I've heard him going up to G5 fairly regularly, one was a G#5
@@devi_- Problem with me trusting another post.
Yeah almost everyone can hit a D5…..and F2 is really low for a tenor….. someone else said A2-B5 was his range. I just heard Black Dog and the high note was G5.
@@michaelgoyettemusic thanks, I looked it up instead of trusting another post and edited my comment. Cheers.
@@Bellas1717 that makes sense ✌️
This whole concert is unquestionably one of John’s greatest live performances ever. He is an absolutely phenomenal singer who can sing just about anything. John is just one of those performers who gives everything whilst on stage but who is also just a really nice guy who loves his family and who gave up his chance of full international stardom in his prime just so he could stay home with them. That is why he is still, and will always be, Australia’s heart. ❤️
Thank you for reacting to the amazing John Farnham! His vocal range is incredible!
Try When Something Is Wrong With My Baby (Hey Hey Its Saturday version). His duet with Jimmy Barnes. He can sing in about 29 different styles. He is the GOAT
Yes, has to be the Hey, Hey it’s Saturday version.
New Zealand has sheep….Australia has the GOAT. 😂
That’s crazy amount of styles! ✌️
No one back in the 80s that who had heard Johnny was one of the best performers in the world.
He had a following mostly in the UK Europe and Oz
The Voice was a big hit here in Canada too.
You are right he can do anything you will not be disappointed reacting to him
John would smile and just jump into a song and knock it out of the park. What a performer and entertainer.
He is a master
Fact
Yo, saw him live in the late 80's when he toured NZ with Billy Joel. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed.
That one "bluesy" note at the end -! The one where he almost squashes it, then let's it out both sides under great control - total mastery of his vocals and range. Magic. Electric magic. I'm not good at explaining music - I hope I've done this justice. Jan. '24. UK. E❤
Johnny is indeed our national treasure ❤
Thank you for reacting to and appreciating the amazing John Farnham! This is my favorite version of the Beatles song "HELP".
He is an ICON. A legend. Best male vocalist in the world. Every single time I hear him sing I cry tears of joy. ❤
Great meeting Hank. Glad you have found John Farnham. I grew up listening to him on the TV. Yo
While you were watching John, in Canada we were stuck with Anne Murray. I’m not sure how international she was though. You had it better though! 🍻
❤welcome❤ to the world of our John.
Fasten your seat belt!
Yes! You picked my favourite note! John Farnham is incredible. I have loved everything he has done and have been privileged to watch him live.
He was better live in this concert than on record. That was his encore after a 2 hr concert
Yo! 29s in & I love that you pronounced Melbourne correctly! Thank you! Most Americans say “Mel-born” when it is “Mel-burn”. Kudos!
I’ve had plenty of Aussie friends over the years….living in ski towns and London. ✌️
He has, as far as I know, done pop, rock, soul, country and musical theatre.
If you wanna see some high notes check out “Gethsemane”
The band was awesome too. Watch for the subtle cues.
🫶the Goat‼️‼️
Your gonna love this 🎸🎸
You’re right! ✌️
This concert was advertised as John and his Big Band in typical Aussie understatement, it's a 100+ piece orchestra for crying out loud. lol
This song is one of the last songs that he would sing at the end of the night after he had already sung his heart out for nearly 3 hours.
-Burn For You..
th-cam.com/video/4PPvOhPspEA/w-d-xo.html
-Angels..
Notice how he holds the mike below his chest, both mikes are a metre away, which he does all the time to not drown out the other singers.
JF with Lisa Edwards, a top singer in her own right, and one of John's back up singers for 20+ years.
th-cam.com/video/5_2NJRIdBO8/w-d-xo.html
-Amazing Grace..
To show the calibre of his other back up Singers, showing you have to be good in your own right, just like Lisa.
This is Vanetta Fields and Lindsey Field.
th-cam.com/video/_x6N94OEkZQ/w-d-xo.html
-Please Don't Ask Me..
This one with Olivia Newton John, who we have recently lost. John has also had major cancer surgery including removal of part of his jaw and we may not hear him sing again. So let's enjoy this one as well..
th-cam.com/video/2uV_tZODfK8/w-d-xo.html
-When Something Is Wrong With My Baby....
And even when he is singing with one of the most powerful voices on the planet, Jimmy Barnes, he still put the mike away from his face and closer to Jonny Diesel on guitar.

-Or is the greatest.
Gethsemane..
th-cam.com/video/k5woMZtClhI/w-d-xo.html
-How about a mike test.
He has the power and ability to distort microphones, amps, and get speaker stacks jumping. So this sort of setting up the venue test is a must. Lol
Black Dog.

Besides having the best voice ever, JF can adjust his tone, pitch, volume, to match the person he is singing with to either match them or sing just under them depending on who's the head line act, he will even back himself down when he is the head line to give others their moment to shine, and if my ears were sensitive enough, I wouldn't be surprised if he could vary his vibrato, timbre and all of those other things that voices can do so he could accentuate the other singers.
Hey I reacted to this over a month ago… it was blocked and my appeal went unnoticed so I won after 30 days. So glad it finally cleared. Definitely more on the agenda. ✌️
John Farnham has an amazing voice!
From this same concert Classic Jack. He can sing any genre, he recently recovered from mouth cancer but still has a long way to recover. He’s our National Treasure! We love our John Farnham. Enjoy!
John's cover of Led Zepp's Black Dog is one you need to hear!!
I have a version that’s just audio…is that the right one?
I think only audio is available, as it was recorded during a sound check, not during a performance.
@@michaelgoyettemusic Yes, Mike. Just audio - but simply astounding!
You NEED to hear him singing Black Dog by Led Zeppelin AS A warm up. No video exists only audio because a member of the crew hit record and captured the audio. Be prepared to be blown away
Black Dog ... he sang that as a warm up for his voice and the band. Theres only an audio version. A- mazing!!!
He's done covers of both A long way to the top (ACDC) and Black Dog (Led Zep)
Long Way to The Top with the Melbourne Symphony orchestra!
Fabulous Farnsy! Get well, John!
Kiwi here rest assured he is absolutely adored here in New Zealand too!
I love the Kiwis!!! One of my favorite girlfriends was from Wellington…. Sarah Harding? You know her? 😆
Yo, that was fabulous. Amazing voice. 💛
Thanks for your reaction to our John he is an unbelievable artist...just a natural performer. Some for you to react to would be
long way to the top- ACDC cover, Black Dog led zepplin- he did this as a warm up before his concerts which is unbelieveable.
Playing to win , angels with lisa edwards, Burn for you, something is wrong with my baby with jimmy barnes just to get you started- I am sure you will be blown away with John as he can sing almost any genre. Enjoy the ride
His near 3 octave range meant he could a huge variety of genre. He could sing tenor. He sang part of Granada that was sung by Luciano Pavarotti. He also sang with Ray Charles. His cover ofLed Zeppelin's BLACK DOG is amazing
One of the best singers ever.
💯
That’s always nice to hear. ✌️
Nearly at the end. The Sadie and It's a Long Way to the Top encore was actually after Help.
Love that last note, listen to jimmy Barnes and John singing when something is wrong with my baby
I have reacted to it 3 times! Live, video, and with a guest.
The ending of the song always reminds me of 6p's music, especially Australian bands of that time; down to earth, and gravelly.
I love Olivia!!! ✌️
You will love that song. Great voices, great friends over the years, absolutely unbelievable chemistry. And Granada with Anthony Warlow to verify his operatic cred.
To be fair, you're absolutely right. He can do different genres of music and his voice just fits for it.
Yep….he can connect his vocal chords in a variety of ways so it isn’t surprising. ✌️
Excited you are doing this. I may not make the premier even though it is on at an excellent time for me. Will try though💕👍🦇
Yo! Hi Hank…….You now will have all the Aussies on board. John is absolutely amazing, love all his songs.
Ps Maybe not Sadie (The Cleaning Lady). It was No 1 on the Australian charts in 1968 for six weeks.
Our beautiful golden boy!!! the next one you should listen to is "When Something is wrong with your baby"
He CAN do anything!
❤️
Aussies love some John Farnham, unfortunately he may never sing again after losing a part if his jaw to cancer. I dont know how much but im hopong its minimal and he will return to the stage. Hes been singing my whole life
Although never performed in a concert, John does Led Zeppelin' s Black Dog as a sound check before concerts; check that out.
A great reaction to a Man at the top of his game.
He IS the voice.
He sings 3 octave range and all different genres, opera, rock, and everything in between.
Our Aussie legend!!!!!!!
❤️
We love him
John can sing anything from rock to opera. Can I suggest the following from the same concert:
You’re the Voice
It’s a Long Way to the Top (AC/DC cover)
Also Gethsemane from Jesus Christ Super Star
You may but if they are like this was….they will take 30 days to clear…. You’ll need to be patient. 🙏 ✌️
Yo Mike that was great to listen too. He does have a fabulous voice. Good song, love the crowd singing too! Hi Hank 🐾 have a super day🫶
Indeed he does have a great voice. Hank says hey. ❤️
One of the many things that sets John apart from many other singers is that his face is always visible- he doesn't swallow the microphone!
In fact, the louder John sings, the further away he is from the microphone. Also, looking at his neck, you can see the power in his throat
Yes he can sing Opera with Anthony Warlow as well as his warm up song of Led Zeplin Black Dog that will blow your mind.
Yo! Hank! You’re a good boy 🐾🦴🐶 and our farnsey is truly the goat 😂
Jimmy Barnes , John Farnham and Diesel singing When something is wrong with my baby is worth a watch
🙏
You are right - he does a bit of opera with Anthony Warlow (an operatic singer - was in Phantom of the Opera here) it's worth a listen - Also does a cover of 'Black Dog' Led Zepp - One of my personal favorites is a beautiful song he does - 'Burn for you' just with an acoustic guitar - either version - live or official video as good as each other. He also does a great version of 'Somethings wrong with my Baby' with Jimmy Barnes - a must listen
