    I am getting ready to tackle this on the 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS I bought used from a private party. It's a LOT more complicated than I'd realized, but Owen has done a superb job of explaining every step. Thanks, Owen!

    I’m doing the same thing on my 1996 Montero with the 3.0. Water pump went bad, so doing that and the timing belt and how did you get the crank pulley off? Thinking I’m gonna have to locate the flywheel and lock something in there to get that bolt loose. My impact gun is too long to zip it out unfortunately. Also, how do I find TDC on compression stroke or is that even important if I don’t turn the cams or crank

    I have 95 montero 3.0 L v6 sohc and the crank shaft shifted to the right of the timing mark for the pulley by about a half inch. The cams are aligned properly. Your pulley was slightly to the right of the marking. How did you get it back in alignment before pulling all the accessory belts. Also, when you loosened the crank bolt with the impact. How did you lock the pulley in place so it would not spin? Thanks

    • @owen_03montero
      @owen_03montero  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So i loosened it with an impact gun and you can move the crank back to timing mark. And to torque it you need a tool to hold it

    How many teeth are on that belt? I have been having issues with finding out if I need a 195 tooth or a 201 tooth timing belt. Every time I add my vehicle info for a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero sport 3.5L V6 it wants to give me either option. By the looks of it someone else has changed out the timing belt before me and I just want to make sure I order the correct one. Any help with this will be great!

    Very helpful man! Thank you for this Owen. FYI, I am about to purchase a 1995, 3.0L, V6. Needs a new timing belt and water pump so I am going to have to tow it to my Dad's garage so we can do the work. I'm original owner of a 2002 Mits Montero Ltd 3.5L engine that stopped running as I accelerated to pass a car, earlier this year. I had it towed to a shop and they gave a general opinion that a thing belt was the problem and didn't do a diagnosis. Knowing the potential expense, if true, I haven't gone any further on diagnosis and assumed they are correct. It's been sitting for several months, as I weigh the pros and cons on fixing it. Do you know how I can verify the problem or is the engine a write off. The replacement engine on eBay is $1,999, $2,300 with shipping, then core charge and cost of replacement. 226K on engine, half that on recent replaced trans and transfer case. The Mits is in great body and interior shape and is a great car to drive. Any suggestions?
    .

    • @owen_03montero
      @owen_03montero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only way to see if the engine is ruined is take the front apart and see if the timing belt snapped or jumped teeth. Once you have the front off you can see if the belt is okay and if it is then see if the timing marks line up. If the belt and timing marks are fine I would do a compression check

      @@yourchava I got involved in other things and it sat for a year. I bought a 2018 Subaru Impreza sport My apt management had it towed away. I just couldn't deal with it and let it go.
