Panama definetely the best. It nails those crunchy high mids that defines a plexi roar, though it's still missing that saggy oscilating low mid that makes it sound organic like my 73 JMP. Also, a bit more of a detailed top end sizzle, with that squishy pick attack.
The Panama really stands out. At least to my ears. And I would say that the Brownie was my least favorite. I was really close to buying the Dirty Little Secret or the AT pedal. Now you have me thinking about the Panama.
@@Hallalo I agree. I have both. I have the grey set to super bass and the red set to super lead but I prefer the grey for both modes. The grey dls is the best marshall in a box pedal I've tried and I've tried them all. Very amp like. My advice would be to buy the grey dls.
@@davidstovall8573 yes! But I have played a Plexi in 2021 and since then I never played my Amp in a box again. If I would have something like a deluxe reverb I would use it again if I don’t want the natural tube distortion. Greetings!
@@Hallalo My neighbors might not like me if I turned up a Plexi to where it needs to be, especially on Saturday nights when I drink a few or several beers and my playing is pretty sloppy, lol. Agreed though, amp is always better than a pedal. Just ask Eric Clapton and many others. Last time I checked Eric's only pedal was a wah.
I have and really likes the pinnacle and andy timmons, those are my go to pedals with rental backlines. Im surprissed with the mooer., cool sound and must cost a 3rd part than the others.
Since it’s a direct rip off of the MI Crunch Box, one of the original MIAB pedals and yet they don’t even include it here. If I’m not mistaken, all of these pedals came after the Crunch Box and were probably to a large degree inspired by that pedal right down to using the red theme.
I use the carl martin panama with a kustom quad 100hd with a randall 4x12 clestion v30s and creamback speakers...love the plexi tone overdrive that the panama brings to the distortion of my amp
The problem with such comparisons is, that you do not see or hear everything. Soundwise the Panama is nice here, no doubt, but in principle it is only the High Gain channel of the PlexiTone. So, if you like these sounds, the PlexiTone would be the better choice, with an additional Crunch channel plus adjustable Boost option for both channels too. Had one, but sold it again. Crunch sounded nice, but the High Gain channel hardly did anything with gain between 3 up to 10, only the sound became more diffuse and indirect. But my main reason to sell this pedal was, that it worked extremely noisy, even more with Boost on, even in front of a well made, very silent tube amp. Even my Decimator II noise gate had problems with this noise intensity. Do you hear anything about this issue here? Of course not... The other thing is, all these pedals offer a nice hot-rod Plexi characteristic, but I also hear the tubelessness. So meanhwile i use a different, really noiseless, more flexible and even better sounding tube pedal solution for these sounds and sold all my op-amp pedals.
I agree with most, I liked your settings on the Panama the most. For me, that's followed by the JHS chunkiness. Thanks again for your excellent presentation!
*A good broad selection of pedals. The PANAMA was very impressive. Great range, never muddy & very dynamic. I'm adding it to my... 'Just One More' list !! 😉 Nice job ! 😎🎸🎶
Where's the godfather - MI Audio Super Crunch Box? ... which was itself based on the old Marshall Guvnor.... Panama wins this round. By a lot. Second was the Brownie imo. I have a Greer Little Samson and it's excellent. All derived from the MI!
To my ears, the Panama sounds the best and is most authentic sounding of the bunch. It's also the brightest. The Pinnacle is OK, but has the signature Wampler "chirp" which I don't like and the others sound congested compared to the Panama. The DLS Red might sound better with a little more presence/brightness dialed in because it has a nice low/mid growl.
I've owned both and I preferred the Plexi Drive. The Plexi Drive is more generic and I don't mean that in a bad way. It's more versatile than the Pinnacle which is very Van Halen-ish and has an annoying "chirp". The Plexi Drive has the "chirp" too but it's not nearly as prominent.

The grey Dirty Little Secret Sounds better than the red sister

The Panama by Carl Martin. Absolutely blows everything else out of the water. As do most Carl Martin pedals. Never heard a bad one.
Panama kicks them all !
I have The AT+ and I am happy

For my ear Panama is the best.
The Panama was best. The @ was pretty good too. The DLS has an internal presence control that may help it get closer.

Carl martin by far
Thanks for the video!!!
Was wondering if Wampler Plexi drives is the same as Wampler Pinnacle?
Are All of them plexi style?
Thanks

@@markn4526 thanks Mark for your answer. Appreciate! Cheers
Can someone explain to me the difference between these pedals and a standard plexi tone style pedal?
I think it' s more gain added to these pedals than a regular plexi pedal as the Animal or Wampler Plexi drive. 😂
Crunchbox?
PANAMA! ... PANAMA ... PANAMA! SOUNDS SUPER AND BEST OF THE BUNCH HERE
Jhs at y dirty buenos pedales... Pero Carl Martin por lejos se los lleva a todos..
JHS The AT!👍👍👍
Panama sounds best, surprised that the pinnacle sounds really poor imo
Noah sark distortion M is the best for me

PANAMA
Can you do a giveaway plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz

The catalinbread and Wampler sound horrible, carl Martin was the best out of them but that wasn't even that good
Plexi style not for me.
Panama sounds best overall, and by a long mile... all others (even the 'boutique' ones) sound like shit by comparison.
