This would of been cool. Imagine sandy being asked "why do you care about them, you're a mammal like us" and she has to realise that it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from, that friends are more important; with a great character development to someone we rarely explore, that she's living underwater besides 1 or 2 episodes. Also I can see a joke about a catfish somewhere.
You know Patrick digging up the worm could have just been Patrick misunderstanding Sandy or Spongebob. Like Sandy could have said, "There's a wormhole" and Patrick would have been stupid and thought about a real worm and then dug it up and said "LIKE THIS?" Yeah that's pretty much my 2 cents.
How to make the movie great: *They try to stop a volcano from destroying everything *Squidward joins a rock band *Spongebob and Patrick have a big fight but later reunite *Plankton and Karen have a healthier relationship *It's a full musical *It's the Spongebob Musical *Do a movie of the Spongebob Musical

Paramount is really cowardly about releasing a hand drawn animated film, which just saddens me. It also confuses me because Sponge Out of Water was mostly 2D, and look how that movie performed with critics and at the box office compared to Sherlock Gnomes and even Wonder Park (since it is expected to bomb). What they need to do is simple: Create a hand drawn animated film on a low budget with great writers, directors, and A-list actors while releasing it when there is no big Disney blockbuster. Boom! It will be successful. Just give it a shot, Paramount. Anyway, I am still looking forward to this movie, because at least the CGI animation is being done by the Captain Underpants movie team, which looks like it will fit well with SpongeBob.
This first concept with evil alien cats is something I would have gone out of my way to see in theaters. But now, just a lot like Sponge Out of Water, I’m probably not going to bother, not even on streaming.
This movie would have slayed at the box office. Hollywood executive's are seriously underestimating how much money people are willing to spend on a fursuit.
Damn it that sounds like the coolest thing ever! It's SpongeBob mixed with Swat Kats! I would have loved to see it. Now we're probably going to get them Bland generic movie. Even seeing SpongeBob interact with kids would have been cool if they would have done it without any talking. And it would have shown SpongeBob's relationship with Gary which is a cute idea.
Well the good news is that SpongeBob's relationship with Gary is still important in the movie (it wasn't scrapped) And it appears SpongeBob, in the main story set in the present, will have to battle Poseidon to save Gary.
While I'm glad this wasn't made into a movie, I wouldn't mind something like this for a tv-special like Gary Come Home or Atlantis Squarpantis. Atlantis episode had a really awesome art direction (that's honestly underappreciated) and setting, with so much potential for a greatness but the lackluster plot, bland characters and mostly awful songs ruined it. I could see the alien cat story basically taking the same basic idea but actually having better story-line, characters and not ruining it with constant awful singing.
I actually like most of the songs in Atlantis Squarepants, though that's more because here in Brazil the songs were rewritten and translated with better lyrics and voice direction that just makes the original english version seem worse by comparison, so there's that.
Does anyone know if Stephen Hillenburg actually had some kind of input on supervising this draft? Because, as I said in a previous post, most of the series crew had no involvement in working on the movie (and they still don't unfortunately), and with him dedicated to work more on the series at the time, I wonder if he was aware of the things going on with this draft of the movie and if he actually approved them. And also wonder if he approved the new "It's a Wonderful Sponge" idea since it was announced and going on behind the scenes before he passed away, so he probably was there to see how it was going.
Those drafts are very old and the movie has been on production for a long time. Stephen worked on the last movie so i doubt he wasn't involved or only supervized.
This is a really interesting idea. It might not have worked but it makes me want to look through Rick and Morty glasses and see the alternate timeline that this movie was completed in to see if it worked in any way. An alien invasion plot is different and maybe too out there for Spongebob, however Planet of the Jellyfish worked really well with a similar plot.
@@icecreamhero2375 I know. This movie could have been a parody of Star trek for all we know. Just saying aliens can work in SpongeBob, depending on the story.
Maybe he and Gary ends up in another dimension, ending the Spongbob series? It’s a very weird and sad theory, but unless he returns home from the help of some other being or, they pull some unrealistic cartoon bull crap and he just “magically returns home” that’s the best I got.
This should be the series finale where spongebob sacrifices himself to stop the cosmic cat (if they don't wanna kill off spongebob they should have bubbles save them
You know, as weird of an ideas as this was those story boards actually looked really cool. The cat villains had a pretty neat design and even though these were simple sketches they communicated a lot of detail and direction. It probably would have been better than the (ugh...) fully CGI one we're getting. The idea of an origin story for SpongeBob sounds pretty dumb, especially when he's been around for twenty years now. It just feels like a pointless premise that a modern SpongeBob episode would do. But at the same time, I just think this idea is a bit out-of-place for SpongeBob. Cat aliens invading Earth doesn't really seem like something that'd be suit the franchise... well, it wouldn't suit the original era at least, which is the era I care about. Probably would work as it's own thing or better yet, a movie for another Nicktoon (Fairly OddParents and Jimmy Neutron come to mind). But in those shows I'm not really invested in or it's characters like I am with SpongeBob.
I would say this plot is too weird but considering the last film had the characters turn into super heroes to fight a pirate that stolen the secret formula that turned out to be the same pirate as in the spongebob intro and included a space dolphin that has a rap battle with seagulls in the end, yea it’s alright lol
If it involves cats, then it automatically sounds good to me. Too bad this whole dang thing got scrapped. I also always loved plots that involved the heroes repelling a full-scale invasion.
“The fact it looks like spongebob is gonna die in the animatics really does make me worried the show might come to an end with this movie” at least that’s what I WOULD’VE SAID IF THEY DIDN’T TURN THIS THIRD MOVIE INTO A DAMN CAMP LAZLO RIP-OFF
This is so cool lmao! I made a reaction video about this and I had almost the same exact thoughts. Though I didn't even think about how they would breathe on the surface, which further proves our point that Bubbles would have been involved!
Spongebob is known for some out-of-left-field moments and gags (Nosferatu, anyone?), but those worked because they were quick gags. Look at some of the weirder episodes of Season 11 (even for a show as weird as this), like There’s a Sponge in my Soup or Cuddle E. Hugs; much of the post-second-movie era is loved with episodes like Karen’s Virus, Doodle Dimension, and especially My Leg!, but the more experimental episodes have some more mixed responses. (Maybe it’s due to the animation; the animation during the seasonal rot era was rather stiff, but now they sometimes try too hard to be expressive. As Mr Enter said in his Ink Lemonade review, it’s like someone sprinkled little bits of Face Freeze throughout Season 11.) Anyways, the quick gags work for some of the more out-there material, but sustaining it for a whole episode, let alone a whole movie, means something has to give; it just doesn’t feel like Spongebob.
Ya know, the first Spongebob movie was weird--but still stuck in some kind of reality. The second movie just amped up the weirdness to the point where I was like, "Wasn't this originally a show about a fry cook who became manager of a fast food chain?" This one not only provides us Help Wanted Part II, this just reeks of marketing push because he's been out of the mainstream consciousness for so long and the original plot sounds like a rejected episode of Invader Zim.
"There's no such thing as a bad idea, just bad execution." My motto for this draft and for when I go see It's a Wonderful Sponge, so it's just a matter of wait and see how it actually goes.
Here’s how I see these scenes , probably gonna animate them. The first scene: Spongebob and Patrick see the aliens, and try to get sandy to help, Patrick Does, something... and sandy says she thinks she knows what to do, spongebob then runs on the tree dome and drag sandy out, The second scene: it comes before the last Deleted scene, the cats come down, and land at a house, the master cat boi looks pretty confused, because they’re just on land. The third scene: you basically explained it how I would, well Part of it, the cat is confused by the wrench. The fourth scene: spongebob and Gary go to bubbles, running from the jumbo cat, leading it to a black hole, Gary makes a joke, so “meow”
I would have liked to see this version of it's a wonderful Sponge. Also I always wondered what would happen if spongebob had a villain play completely straight.
This is my prediction of those unsolved questions: - Patrick might have dug up a worm as an example of something they saw -The random portrait in the live action house looks a lot like Squidward making it seem like Human Squidward would've been Human Spongebob and Patrick's dad. -The whole wrench thing that the Leader Cat was holding might've been Sandy's wrench from the beginning which helped them track down the gang for some purpose. I honestly would've loved to see this whole storyline unfold on like the Spongebob Comics Series as a 3 part comic or something
0:36 bruh this music just brought me back memories of when I use to play that spongbob game for Wii with my dad, (I immediately knew where that music was from lol)
Could you please do a video on those spongebob "movies" which were really just 6 normal episodes just with a shared theme and framework of something's like "every main character meets in Patrick's house to talk about their summer vacations" These things were weird and I want to see someone talk about them.
This should REALLY come back as in episode just the idea in general is actually something absurd but AWESOME, maybe they might even get referenced again in later episodes Though continuity is rare at times in SpongeBob. In fact I had ideas myself of potentially new material in the SpongeBob Lore I wished can be turned into reality.
Guys your all missing the best pun title "The Spongebob Movie: Claws Encountered with the Purred Kind" I don't care if that was already used by Bubsy, I would've laughed
I agree that this would've made a really good plot. It would actually fit really well into the SpongeBob universe. In addition to all the sea creatures being anthropomorphic, we have seen anthropomorphic land creatures on the show, too. We've had Sandy since the very beginning. And her bosses from land are talking chimps. And we've also had Kenny the Cat.
They never stablish WHO meet in the camp scenes. They will probably focus on Spongebob, Patrick and Squidward, with maybe Krabs showing up somewhere since he's way older than them.
I'm glad this never became a real movie bc I don't think it would be a good last and final movie. I also think it's too much for Spongebob. It just doesn't seem like Spongebob. I also was kinda sad to see he basically dies at the end, that would ruin me forever. It was interesting to see what it could have been, but im glad it was scrapped.

9:49 - the portrait looks like it could be the father of the two kids- perhaps modeled after clancy brown, the voice actor for mr. krabs?
No one really talking about spongebob pretty much dying in the last scene?
No one knows if he actually died
it could've been a portal that everyone thought was a black hole
Maybe he and Gary ends up in another dimension, ending the Spongbob series? It’s a very weird and sad theory, but unless he returns home from the help of some other being or, they pull some unrealistic cartoon bull crap and he just “magically returns home” that’s the best I got.
maybe bubbles just swoops them up or something...
Already looks better than 'Sponge Out of Water'.
I'd of watched this movie out of curiosity.
This should be the series finale where spongebob sacrifices himself to stop the cosmic cat
(if they don't wanna kill off spongebob they should have bubbles save them
I love how the final product didn't even have one similarity to wonder life. The alien cat story should of stayed
I mean, that's why they changed the name to Sponge On The Run.
This version was probably the "Wonderful Sponge" movie.
3:58 That better be the Combat arena soundtrack from Spongebob the movie the game I hear!
SpongeBob is probably the only anthropomorphic animal franchise I could think of that doesn't attract furries.
Sandy Cheeks
Sandy : Am I a joke to you?
OH MY GOD YOU USED THE ROCKET RODEO MUSIC FROM CREATURE FROM THE KRUSTY KRAB THANK YOU
huh creature from the krusty krab music
good choice man that game had amazing music
This must be the alt future where Joe Murray created SpongeBob
Stephen hillenburg did work on rocko tho
Maybe this plot could be used for a SpongeBob video game one day as this plot sounds awesome.
If it involves cats, then it automatically sounds good to me. Too bad this whole dang thing got scrapped. I also always loved plots that involved the heroes repelling a full-scale invasion.
Watching this now after the movie released makes me wish what might have been
9:49 I Think Dats Paul Tibbitt
Man story boards artists can be so expressive
This would of been much better then what we got
God this would've been so much more interesting
Sponge Bob 4: EndSponge Leaked Script
Cat: I am inevitable
SpongeBob: And I... am... SpongeBob.
“The fact it looks like spongebob is gonna die in the animatics really does make me worried the show might come to an end with this movie” at least that’s what I WOULD’VE SAID IF THEY DIDN’T TURN THIS THIRD MOVIE INTO A DAMN CAMP LAZLO RIP-OFF
Those alien cats look like characters that you would encounter in Treasure Planet.
The second movie just amped up the weirdness to the point where I was like, "Wasn't this originally a show about a fry cook who became manager of a fast food chain?"
This one not only provides us Help Wanted Part II, this just reeks of marketing push because he's been out of the mainstream consciousness for so long and the original plot sounds like a rejected episode of Invader Zim.
I still wish they've done this storyline. They should redo this idea for a Spongebob Special or another movie. It would be dope!
You got me hyped up when you put the Rocket Rodeo music in from CFTKK
"There's no such thing as a bad idea, just bad execution." My motto for this draft and for when I go see It's a Wonderful Sponge, so it's just a matter of wait and see how it actually goes.
Here’s how I see these scenes , probably gonna animate them.
The first scene: Spongebob and Patrick see the aliens, and try to get sandy to help, Patrick Does, something... and sandy says she thinks she knows what to do, spongebob then runs on the tree dome and drag sandy out,
The second scene: it comes before the last Deleted scene, the cats come down, and land at a house, the master cat boi looks pretty confused, because they’re just on land.
Im sad that stephen doesnt see this movie...
Press F so he can get chances to see this in the heaven
F
This is my prediction of those unsolved questions:
- Patrick might have dug up a worm as an example of something they saw
-The random portrait in the live action house looks a lot like Squidward making it seem like Human Squidward would've been Human Spongebob and Patrick's dad.
Spongebob: Infinity Patties
oh man that kelp forest music really brought back some great memories
If I had to take a wild guess about why Patrick plucking a wiggler out of the ground, I bet it was because Sandy was talking about a worm hole.
Could you please do a video on those spongebob "movies" which were really just 6 normal episodes just with a shared theme and framework of something's like "every main character meets in Patrick's house to talk about their summer vacations"
These things were weird and I want to see someone talk about them.
4:32 YES FINAL SPACE!!!!!
Final Spongebob.
This should REALLY come back as in episode just the idea in general is actually something absurd but AWESOME, maybe they might even get referenced again in later episodes Though continuity is rare at times in SpongeBob.
In fact I had ideas myself of potentially new material in the SpongeBob Lore I wished can be turned into reality.

and where's the spongebob part?
Guys your all missing the best pun title
"The Spongebob Movie: Claws Encountered with the Purred Kind"
I don't care if that was already used by Bubsy, I would've laughed
wow this looks better than sponge on the run
Aw man, I wish we got this version of the movie. It would have been the CAT'S pajamas.
Space cats?! Oh my gosh! That sounds awesome
What I want to know is why the cats are wearing fucking Warhammer 40k space marine armor
Instead we got “Sponge on the Run”, which was...kind of boring honestly.
Furries have taken over the navy
Squidward: NOT THE NAVY
DELETED THINGS! :0
But... then they can’t have Sandy because they met in an episode...
@@icecreamhero2375 or handled like the DCEU where a character mentions the new way something happened.
icecream hero true
icecream hero well from my understanding the first movie is meant to be how the show ends
They never stablish WHO meet in the camp scenes. They will probably focus on Spongebob, Patrick and Squidward, with maybe Krabs showing up somewhere since he's way older than them.
@@icecreamhero2375 but continuity is a fundamental part of making a tv series
Man... if there is going to be a 4th movie, I want it to be the scrapped idea
A comic should be made about the cut story line
4:32 you referenced Final Space! At last, a cartoon reviewer mentions Final Space!
A origin story is just what they need
