I started out with 5 bamboo needles, then found magic loop, then tried 2 16" circulars, then got curious and bought knock-off flexiflips, and now also have a couple of 9inch circulars.... and usually end up using the small circulars for the ribbing and leg, then the bamboos for the heel flap and gusset, then back to the circular for the foot and toe... I use them all at one point or another. 2ata time is also fun sometimes... No wrong way to knit. :)
I have just started my sister knitting socks. I started her on top down with a 9inch circular and she has had no problem. Probably because she knows no difference.
Oh, Fizzers! (as they are called in Europe). I haven't had one in 30 years, and actually never seen one since I live in Italy. Thank you for another entertaining hour!
Thank you, Noelle and Kelly. Like always it is a joy to see the knitchat on wednesday morning. While i am preparing my Grandmaday and cooking, i listen to you and tonight, when the house is empty and quiet again i watch and take notes. Love the Tips and Tricks and New ideas. See you again sunday, stay healthy. Greetings and hughs from germany, Maria

I learned to knit on a flatbed knitting machine before I learned to handknit. You can do circular knitting with a ribber attached or there is a brand that excels in circular knitting called Passap. I enjoyed it so much that I became a knitting machine dealer. So much of it translates over to hand knitting as there is quite a bit of handwork involved. I haven't had a knitting machine for years but enjoyed them very much when I did. Now I do everything by hand. Loved your chat!
I had a flatbed earlier in my knitting life. My husband sold it at a garage sale since I hadn’t used it in a lot of years. I wish I had it back now just to experiment with.
We had no Halloween kids this time. All the more turtles for us to enjoy. There are so many ways to play with short sock needles. Love mine. I tried to post a finished sock picture in Raverly but be darned if I could figure it out....looking forward to your review on the 'How To". Enjoy your trip Kelly. Thanks again ladies.
I started on 9 inch and I love it totally. Chiaogoo needles and I do everything from beginning to the toe end on 9 or 12 inch. (Fingerweight smooshy yarn) is all my favorite way to knit socks. Two needles are 9 and two are 12 inches, depending on the size of the person I’m knitting them for.
Oy with the Rockets. Here is a conversation with my mom from my childhood about Rockets: Me: We can't be the dumb house that gives out the gross candy. Mom: They're perfectly fine. Me: Nobody eats them. Mom: Of course they do. Why else would they sell them? Me: They taste like soap. Mom: How do you know? Do you eat soap? Me: If I get them in my candy you have to eat them all, I'm keeping all the good bars for myself. Mom (purchases little chocolate bars even though they are more expensive than the yucky Rockets) Happy travels and good healing, as needed:)
I started knitting socks on 3 dpns using the 4th needle to knit with. Also I knit on 9 inch circulars but have yet to try flexi tips. Love the knitting particularly the baby cardigan. 🇬🇧
Thanks Elaine, we have only tried Flexi Flips recently but are really enjoying them. It’s nice that there are so many options now, when I started knitting socks a set of 4 DPN’s was the only option.
I, to this day, love Smarties and now and again, a bag finds its way into my shopping cart. Thank you for another cheerful episode as I m processing yesterday and moving through a lot of emotions. Hoping that both of you have a great week.
Thank you for another great episode! I have a question: what are some of the techniques you have learned over the years that have elevated your knitting, that have particularly given them that polished professional look, apart from blocking. We all know that blocking makes a huge difference!
Ok, Kelly, HOW do you link a video tutorial from a pattern into your knit companion??!! This drives me crazy…the link does not seem to be live and I can’t even copy and paste it as the actual url doesn’t show up?? I’d love to figure this out. Safe travels next week! Oh, and I LOVE rockets 😊
I agree Heidi, even though I complain about how boring stockinette is, sometimes you just need that to calm your mind, or for knitting and chatting. I do enjoy the entire process.

It’s great that there are so many different methods to use for socks

That’s hilarious Sheela, sounds like a lot of conversations that went on in my house growing up 😂
Those mittens are such a pretty pattern I really love them. Why should mittens be boring lol ❤ Susannah
I always love watching you girls!! I hope I can catch you guys Live on Sunday night! Cheers! 🥰🥰
Thanks so much Sophie!! Would love for you to join us on Sunday 💕
That’s smarties in USA, they are good

Hi Maria 💕
You are always so inspiring. Thanks
Thanks for watching!

A little chocolate naw and again is a good thing. Hope you are able to join us on Sundays for the next few weeks 💕
I’m having to watch after the fact. I was working the election. Long day. I’ll mark my calendar for Sunday!
See you tonight!!
The first time I tried socks was on DPNs....big fail. Magic loop is what I tried next and it definitely worked better for me.
So glad you found what works for you! DPN’s were the only option when I first started knitting socks and I think they are my least favourite now

That is a great question and a topic for the next knitchat!
Is it Sunday yet 😂 nope still Saturday 😂
😂

@ Thank you so much! Game changer!
Interesting podcast...a knitting machine may be quicker but there is a joy in knitting and a meditative quality to knitting. I would miss that.
