Not sure why gen 7 would be much different than gen 6, 5, or 4? Only gen 7 and gen 8 heads are the biggest difference, but the dimensions and sizes are all similar from 1964 and up. What did you learn exactly as I like to learn too? RH is a modern shop teacher learning the masses about what was top secret just under 20 years ago! 👍

I have the same truck. I use it often and I tend to travel far with it. I decided against the big block only because of the mpg. On this truck I think a tough small block will suite me fine.
I considered boosting a sbc or a Cummins swap. Cost, intended use, ease, and available funds at the moment ....... and the fact a free built 400 sbc fell in my lap today I think I'll pop that in for now. The Cummins was my top #1 choice for torque, reliability, and awesome mpg.
Tomorrow I'm picking up a 67-72 c20 just to flip it. I have a nice 402 big block to throw in. If someone is willing to pay for a Cummins swapped truck, maybe I could do that and see how it would drive.

My old 468 I built made 610hp/555ft lbs with 93 octane, 10.2:1 compression and a 850 double pumper carb. I used a set of unported 308 iron eagle heads, victor jr intake. and the #7 rocker coming off at the end of the Dyno pull. Didn't get to make another pull. 👀🤷 Great video as usual!!🤟

If you're going to use the stock manifold, you need to take it off and modify it first. The PCV system bleeds directly off the bottom of the manifold and will pump your cylinders full of excess oil. That needs to be plugged.

Hey Richard what was the compression ratio on the 496 with the rods, pistons and the 088 heads? Made over 600 hp. I currently run a 496 with more or less the same rotating assembly, highly ported 088 heads and a marine cam. In my situation I ran out of money and couldn't afford a nicer roller cam. Used a flat tappet comp cam. 544/547 lift 240/240 duration ( that's a close number on duration, can't remember exactly) with a 112 lobe separation. Think I'm close to 600 hp at the flywheel? Have a Holly single pumper 750 4150 flange on it now I also don't think is enough carb. This setup is in a 24 foot boat. THANKS!

Some of us with a mint 57 chev ,club meets/weekend runs odd 1/4 mile run car don't like to cut holes in our pristine bonnets/hood neither does the law or have the $$ for a turbofabricated set up on a classic car, I see as the best option for the $$s spent without much fabrication AND go back to stock in a weekend believe me had to do it back in the day lol .
