I honestly can't blame Pale king for being a bad father. He didn't exactly have a choice, if he wanted his plan to go correctly, he couldn't show affection to his vessel if he needed it to be hollow. But he wasn't abusive or anything. Pale king loved his children he just couldn't show it. You can see their bond in the cutscene at the end of the Path of Pain. Pale king protected these memories and didn't want anyone to realize why his plan failed, and he obviously felt guilt for doing something like that to HK/PV.
