  • Back to reality, back to the arranger and the clip launcher. Here's how you can combine multiple note clips to make one pattern. Combine this with polyrhythms and polymeters for a powerful sequencing tool.

    Very nice and interesting tutorial. That trick with the instrument on the group was totally new to me!

    Who knew you could put an instrument on a Group track and route the tracks in the group to it?! Very useful for the Drum Machine instrument.

    Exactly what I was trying to figure out this morning - multiple midi lanes to one instrument. Great and thank you!

    I LOVED this video, just watching you do simple things always teaches so much! I didn't even know you could subdivide notes without manually placing them even though it was there in plain sight all this time, and ON TOP OF THAT I've learned about groups being instruments and all sorts! My brain!!

    @3:10 you talking about sending midi to other tracks. It would be cool if we had a track-selector device with pre-choosable midi target tracks (project dependent) on which you can apply certain types of modulator. In case of random modulator or step module or segments you could distribute midi events to different tracks in a modulated way.

    • @tsicon9138

      This would be a bitwig daw feature to support the intuitive development of musical question and answer principles and play around with the modulated results.

      Yeah, totally agree with you. I've got to admit, from now on I'm gonna lean more into polymeters and polyrhythms. They're just too powerful.

    • @PolarityMusic

      I would say "just" polyrhythms. Euclidean rhythms just changing the sub divsions, no?

    hi polarity. Is it it possible to record midi in bitwig by clicking on the pads on the drum machine with the mouse?

  • @audiunt

    Are you still using shift-tab to go to the note editor? I can’t help myself to still double-click and get to the lower note- editor. Can you open the upper with double-click?

    • @PolarityMusic

      I use 'Tab', I've set it up that way in the shortcuts and got pretty used to it. I think the issue with double-clicking is that you need a different key/button to get back, right? Not sure, but anyway, Tab works pretty well for me. It's really rare that I accidentally double-click and open the bottom editor.

    is there a way to send back the signal to the midi tracks so each instance has different filters in the chain? so although they are triggering the same instrument, they can all sound different. this would save a lot of CPU on larger projects.

    • @PolarityMusic

      You can separate with note/midi channels and then utilize the channel modulator plus per note expressions (pressure, timbre etc.)

  • @rallzam

    well i just dont get it, why someone would like to do that, its much more effective, to put all notes in one midi clip, so you can change the notes right away without always having to switch back and forth between the clips to get the right melodie and harmonie in all of them and no routing needed. or did i get something wrong?

    • @fuglsnef

      If they were all in the same clip, to get the polymetric effect you would have to copy and paste the notes in each sub-pattern multiple times. It would be a lot of work to change the length of one of them.

  • @soundcore183

    The other question is about that midi subvisions if there is a difference between midi triggers and 'real' chunks of audio on large subvisions similar to the buffer effects in stutter edit or break tweaker. In other words if that's better to use the looping points in a sampler or in cycle mode. Any idea

    • @PolarityMusic

      I think I'm not quite getting your question, maybe you could try rephrasing it? :D

    • @soundcore183

      I wanted to re-create melodic note subvisions inspired by Adam Nelly 'Rhythm is pitch' video and BreakTweaker glitch effect however I still feel limited by bitwig function and TH-cam won't allow me to rephrase. :) Very similar results are made by modulating the loop points of a sampler (exponential oneshots) or by keytracking the lfo speed but by a mapping function not a linear mapping to create the impression for a more clearer note separation. Just some ways to break out of the static modulation or repeats.

    • @PolarityMusic

      @@soundcore183 Have you tried the "note repeater" device? In the dropdown, there's an option called "pitch". You can just play notes, and it converts them into "repeats" for you. With the multiplier, you can then adjust it further. It should do exactly what you want. Hope this helps!

    • @soundcore183

      @@PolarityMusic my bad forgot about that one, have to admit I updated recently and bitwig made usual modules more versatile thanks for the hint. Even not necessary for everyone I think the flam option on some drum machines is essential. The not so obvious function like accent mode I think should be a good feature in the new drum machine device. At least it has choke targets. :)
