its a little complicated but its explained in the video that the output is routed inside the software (daw) by changing your playback engine to RC 202. there are no further hardware connected to the keyboard. the output is the rc 202 and that way the loop station will pick up the output of the keyboard.
@@TravelinChina oh sorry i misunderstood😊 well the physical links from the laptop is: one usb connection between macbook and rc 202🎛 one usb connection between laptop-arturia keyboard🎹 one usb connection between laptop and the interface🎛 the rest (instrument, mic, footswitch and stereo outputs to interface) are linked from the rc 202 itself.
@@MVNDA Thanks! I didn't know the RC202 could be linked up to Mac via USB. That's great to hear. I'm assuming if you wanted to use the midi keyboard with an iPad, that'd have to be via an Aux input. Great video. Thanks again.
@@TravelinChina yes indeed!🤗 the minilab doesnt have any aux input but i did catch a video with a producer using an aux/usb adapter to connect midi controller to ipad so i guess that could be possible🤙
good question! im not sure if thats possible. ive never done it before or seen anyone else do it😁 but i mean it has midi inputs so im guessing there could be a way!
@@MVNDA I also really want to know everything 🥲 but it must take a lot of courses to know everything and it must also be a lot of investment.. in how long did you learn everything?
This is wonderful thankyou for sharing with us! I just got the RC-202 and looking to get a bit more gear, but just hard ware if that's possible right now. I'm very much a beginner and not techie lol. I was wondering, can a person hook up the Arturia to the looper and be able to use them together without any soft wear? Or does the Arturia need soft wear for you to even operate it? Thanks!
hello! the arturia is a midi controller which means it doesnt have any internal sound, it needs midi signals from some kind of software to run! i use my daw to trigger it. so no, you can not connect it straight to the loop station😊
Something you can look at is AKAI MPK mini play - it has BUILT IN SOUNDS and its similar in size and function to the Arturia, has only 4 knobs though, 8 pads, 25 keys, completely remappable if you want (later?) to control different things via MIDI, and the knobs give you some basic builtin effects. I love mine, and connect it to my looper using just a 3.5mm to 1/4" TRS adapter for its 3.5mm headphone output. So I can loop it's built in sounds on my RC-202 using only hardware. So its kind of a mini controller, but also kind of a keyboard. AND it runs either on a USB, or on batteries!
Thank you so much for all these tutorial. I have a question…after all these connections how do I connect my phone to be able to live stream whilst looping?. Such that the sound will then go into the phone capturing both video and audio from the setup…..?
Ambient guitarist here. Just bought a Boss RC-202 after seeing your performances and video review. I have been using two Boss RC-5s (footpedals) but I'm going to now try to link the RC-202 with an RC-5 and hopefully achieve a 3 track recording set-up (I'm also going to use my FS-7 dual footswitch with RC-202). Any idea whether you can midi sync RC-202 and RC-5?
ohhhh wow that sounds really cool. unfortunately i have no idea if that work. i do know that the RC202 and RC505 are possible to sync and since the RC5 is the same brand it might work🙏🤗 let me know if it does!
Thanks so much for this video! It helped me finally figure ish out. One thing though, I am able to record directly from my RC202 to Ableton without using an interface, even with the I/O Lin on. My ableton audio i/o & midi are set to RC202, as is my mac mini system output and input. I don't know if it's because of our different computers and DAWs, but I was able to make it work. One question I did have though is if you've upgraded recently to Sonoma? The RC202 driver in Jan/Feb did not work at all then they released a new driver for my Ventura (os 13) and it worked finally! I'm afraid to upgrade now to Sonoma because it was such a headache before...
thats awesome that you made it work! how did you connect the RC 202 to the computer (hardware)? be very careful when upgrading mac! i always tend to wait for many months before doing that so that the manifacturers keep up with the updates... trust me i learned that the hard way😂
@@MVNDA Good call, re: mac updates! I just have my 202 plugged in via USB. I spend *hours* trying to figure out routing via blackhole, etc. but the simplest approach was the best, I guess!

Hey Mvnda, thanks for sharing, it's really helpful. I have a question about recording the sound, as I use the USB wire to record what I loop on RC505, it has a noise in the background and the volume is really small.
