The following quote from Maynard describes some of the concepts used on the "Thirteenth Step" album, including the idea behind the song "The Outsider." "The songs on Thirteenth Step for the most part are about the various processes of addiction, behavioural addictions, chemical addictions, and each song is kind of sung from a different perspective. I've a lot of friends who've gone through a lot of these situations. Some of the songs are sung from the perspective of the actual drug, from the perspective of someone who has realized that they have an issue or a problem, also from the perspective of a person who realizes that if they don't do something they're going to die, a song from the perspective of a person who is in denial about a loved one, dying right before their eyes. And in the case of "The Outsider", it's sung from the perspective of a person who doesn't understand at all what their friend is going through, what their loved one is going through, and they think that it's more like a sprained ankle; they can just kind of walk it off."
Saw them preform this live in 2011. Maynard held the "over this" scream for like 10 seconds. It was a cool moment for the crowd cause he dont scream as much live anymore. I suggest checking it out APC live The Outsider Pittsburg Stage AE.
Yeah, Billy and the boys set up a dark one. Love when Maynard works with the vocal melody and cadence. Makes the songfeel like a struggle and it's cool.
@@EmpReacts Or you could do The Outsider live on Jay Leno/Crimes. Then nurse by itself. Or better yet you can do Nurse Who Loved Me by APC, and the original by Failure. Then we get a twofer twofer!

PS this song was SICK AF live on Jay Leno and their Red Rocks concert🤘
Definitely agree
Live on Jay Leno was probably the greatest musical performance you'll ever see on a talk show. You must see it.
Second. I got POLO REACTS to watch it
Definitely one of the peaks of this spectacular album.

EMP, you must watch they performing live 🤘🤘
You have to check out the Apocalypse Remix of this song!
Yay! An APC worth listening to. I think there are 3 more. I'll be back when I see them. Until then, I'll just re-watch TOOL videos 🤷🏻
Just to keep the emphasis going, ypu shoukd checkout the Live from Leno show version of this song.
Song is about former Alike in Chains former lead singer
Not specifically it isn't
LETSSSS GOOOO!!! ❤!! Sup Mr.Emp! Hope you enjoyed this let’s check it out lol
'Crimes' is pretty a short song, how about a 2-fer w/ 'The Nurse Who Loved Me' ??
it shall be done :)
Cool, thx!!
I implore you not to dedicate an entire reaction / week just to Crimes. It's a very short instrumental track and about 40% of it is outro.
If that's the case, then we will do Crimes/The Nurse Who Loved Me in one :)
