Mites and lice can cause symptoms like the following: bare patches of lost feathers, persistent diarrhea, bloody spots on their legs and feet, pale combs and waddles, weight loss, or swollen and raised scales on their feet and legs.
If you are already experiencing an infestation, there are over the counter natural and chemical remedies for mites and lice available online and at farm box stores. Consult a local livestock veterinarian when needed.

#1 tip. DAILY clean. Do not let it get out of control. I am up every day at 6 am, even in winter. My coldest day -29 with wind chill i had my most eggs 19 out of 21 hens. Once they get out of roost i jump in and pick up all the 💩 and give everything a wipe down. A bucket of hot water with dawn dish soap and a rag. I have another bucket with a lid that collects the 💩 i recycle my grain bags from the coop. If i need to scrape i use a trowel. My nesting boxes are inside the roost and I refuse to have them traipse through 💩 on their way to lay their eggs. I love hearing people say "Wow its so freaking clean in here and i cant believe there is no smell." Its hard work but worth it. I personally do not care if anybody thinks i go overboard. I love all my animals and take care of them.

Thank you so much for your video. This is very helpful & I also liked the way you presented the subject. Like your narration & how you perform cleaning inside the coup. Please do more videos on how you handle the chickies & how you do thorough cleaning. Looking forward for more content of yours.

If I’m correct that’s a Buff Laced Bearded Crested Polish Rooster. Such a Beauty! Noticed you also have a Buff Silky it looked like & a White Crested Black Polish. Just mentioning some of my favorites that I saw. I started raising, breeding & hatching Bearded & Non-Bearded Crested Polish about 10 months ago. And have me a solid white silky hen. That is just a little cotton ball & has some cute fur ball babies. Also started doing Silky Polish Hybrids. So far has been an amazing experience my first year with chickens. 🙏🏼 what was the darker colored? I think black rooster that had furry legs was that a silky? Wasn’t really able to tell. And out of curiosity, how is your flock doing now? And being in a very moisture rich environment, I would suggest against straw. It seems to absorb moisture in the wrong kind of ways that being said, pine flakes has been the go to, and seems to be amazing, Hopefully y’all are doing great & had an Amazing Easter Stay Blessed 💪🏽🤠🎣

I have a big coop with no floor and a lot of hay in there, like a 3 inch layer. Whenever the chickens want to dust bathe, they kick the hay aside until they hit paydirt then they roll in it. Is this ok? or do I need to add new dirt occasionally so they wont be bathing in old dry dirt? it a literal dust storm in there everyday, I've had them like this since last November and they all seem to be doing fine (lots of ventilation but still VERY dusty)

I have castle soap that smells like peppermint. Does it matter what it smells like? I know mice don't like peppermint.
