  • Does the thought of tackling the medical school personal statement stress you out? 🤯
    It makes sense why students-and perhaps you-are so concerned about your all-important essay.
    You probably know someone who achieved a solid GPA and MCAT score, conducted research, shadowed physicians, and engaged in meaningful volunteer work, yet still got rejected by every medical school they applied to. What went wrong?
    Many students who get rejected by all medical schools struggle to communicate why they'll be a good doctor. They write cliche application essays that fail to stand out because they don't exactly know what admissions committees are looking for.
    Your personal statement is critical to showing medical school admissions committees why they should choose you over thousands of qualified applicants. In this video, you'll learn the 8 most common medical school personal statement mistakes, plus a strategy to avoid each one.

    When we talk about how an experience changed us or how we impacted others, is there a concern as to how many times we use the terms “I” or “me” in the statement?

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope! So long as you use these words naturally, it shouldn't be an issue.

    Dear Dr. Shemmassian, if an application got rejected the previous year and is reapplying, should it be mentioned in the personal statement that he/she was rejected last year??

    • @Shemmassian
      @Shemmassian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Nikki! No need to mention this in your personal statement. I encourage you to watch our video on reapplying here: th-cam.com/video/qQ92ZDfJrhI/w-d-xo.html

    Hi! What's your opinion on discussing shadowing experiences in a personal statement? For example, seeing a doctor treat a patient a certain way that really stood out to you

      Totally fine, but make sure to link it back to the insights you gained and how you applied them yourself.

    Hard disagree with the 7th one. Almost everyone else recommends having a strong hook. Of course, you have to have a reason for talking about it, but having a strong hook is very important.

      A strong hook does not have to be dramatic though. It can be a concise statement that makes the reader want to read further.
