    That was amazing. I just finished my very rough first draft and the biggest thing I’m taking away from this is to really make it personal. Reading mine back actually brings me to tears because the story I focused on was so emotional and pivotal in my journey. Thank you for sharing and good luck in medical school :)

      Yes! Your statement will embody you so well. I'm sure adcom will not only see what great qualities you have for medicine but also what an amazing person you are.
      Thank you so so much, Nelly ❤️

    Hey! Firstly, this video was amazing. Your written statement was beautiful. I had a question though, I am a Canadian applicant and was a bit confused about what most people meant by "Personal Statement". Is this the 5300-character essay section at the end of the AMCAS application? If so, then I'm assuming this essay will be sent to all schools I apply to in the US correct? Thanks in advance!

      @sydneyvdong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! Yes, the personal statement is the 5300-character essay section at the end of AMCAS. You are spot on correct - once you submit your primary application, that essay will be sent to all of the US schools you applied to.
      Best of luck with this upcoming cycle!!

    Hey Sydney!! Quick question: I'm starting on my personal statement, do you think I can write it in a day?? I already have an idea of what to write and need to submit my primary application by the end of the week. Also thankyou so so much for posting this helped me a lot about what to write!! Also- do you think you could go through my rough draft and make edits?? Thankyou so much!

      Hi Simran :-) It's definitely up to you! I wrote my personal statement in 3 days, but I typically would recommend to give people more time to reflect, outline, edit, and peer review. It's all a matter of how comfortable you are w your statement - you can send whenever you feel great about it!
      I'm not reviewing personal statements, but Claudia Green on instagram is offering free ps editing (instagram.com/claudiaegreen/), if you're interested!

      Aw thank you, Olami 💕 I think I had 3 dedicated sessions to writing it and revised 3 times until I was happy with it!

    How would I mention my gap year in my medical personal statement?

    • @sydneyvdong
      @sydneyvdong  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello! You are definitely welcome to talk about gap year experiences, but I don't think you have to explicitly say you took a gap year in your personal statement. Since you'll introduce that experience (date, hours, short description) within your work and activities, adcom will most likely be able to piece together that that experience happened during your gap year.
      Thinking about it, all of my personal statement stories, besides one, happened during my gap year!

    • @HA-fl6we
      @HA-fl6we 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sydneyvdong Oh, aha it's different in UK. deadline to submit application is in october and gap year begins from September. So it's hard to mention something that you havent done but we still have to mention what we plan to do. I think.

    • @sydneyvdong
      @sydneyvdong  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HA-fl6we Ohhh I see. Your experiences are set in stone when you apply. Unless the UK app requires to state that you are planning to take a gap year, I'm guessing you don't have to state it in your personal statement?
      If you were also applying for US schools, you don't have to mention that you're taking gap years in your AMCAS personal statement! Usually for secondary applications, schools will have you write about what you've done since graduation/gap years.
