Thank you for the extended Dropbox cut. It's like a bonus for your viewers. Reactions are about sharing emotions with the viewers. It's not always necessary to talk to share those emotions IMO - Nice reaction. Another film that gets brought up for reaction channels after "The Green Mile" is another movie masterpiece called "Forrest Gump". If you haven't seen it, I hope you react to it.
There's for sure is a balance. Still I'd rather have someone talk the whole time versus never say anything like some. I don't know about other people but I only watch reactions to movies I've already seen. I will say when people talk so much and use so much copyright protection that I don't even know what they are reacting to that can be super annoying even after I've seen the movie 50 times.
John felt the entire world. Can you imagine what he was going through. Also his ability to extend life without even meaning to makes you wonder just how old John really is. Masterpiece of a film.
One of the better explanations that I heard for Percy Wetmore's catatonic state after the events that transpired was that the bugs represented evil essence, and after he coughed up the evil essence John had given him, he had also coughed up his evil essence as well leaving him a shell of a man.
This was a great, heart-felt reaction, Evie. The best part of these kinds of reactions are the looks on your face, your laughter, your tears, and your short quips. The talking can come at the end, and you do that so well with your thought-out analysis of each movie. I'm sure many people have told you by now that The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile were both written by Stephen King. The actor who played John Coffey passed away a short time after this movie. He was a phenomenal actor. All the actors in this are. I really enjoy your reactions. You edit them very well, leaving in the best parts. I really appreciate the hard work you put into your reactions. Thank you for your channel.
I wouldn't say he passed after a short time; the movie came out in 1999 and he passed in 2012. In addition to both being based on stories by Stephen King, both movies were also directed by Frank Darabont.
Great Reaction Dear! You are just one of a Few Reactors That Doesn't Mindlessly RAMBLE Though out the Movie! And when you actually hear what's going on, it's a More enjoyable Reaction! Great movie! Went with friends to see this in Theaters! By the End of this one , not a Dry eye 👁️ in the Place! 😭
This and Shawshank Redemption are my favourite movies (both screen plays by Frank Darabont). They give you every emotion possible. I also have a signed copy of the first draft Green Mile script from 1997, signed by Tom Hanks, Michael Clarke Duncan and James Cromwell.
11:30 Thats Sam Rockwell. He actually has more good guy roles than bad ones but he generally has some excentric or cooky quirk to his character. He played Zaphod Beeblebrox in the Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and "Krooman Guy" in Galaxy Quest. He was also the CEO for HammerTech Industries in Ironman, cant remember the characters name, something "Hammer" obviously. I really like him as an actor, hes always fun to watch, even when playing straight faced roles, there is still something to it tha makes it interesting to watch. I HIGHLY recommend watching *Galaxy Quest* if you hant seen it. Its a masterpiece in its own genre... whatever that may be xD Comedy/Parody/Homage/Sifi-adventure/Feel-good? I saw him for the first time in Charlie's Angels and still resent him for that role 😂. Just yesterday I watched him in Jojo Rabbit and he really grew on me in that one. But you are probably right in that people tend to remember him more from his 'bad guy' roles.
Greatly appreciate your reaction here! I enjoy seeing reactors react much more than their constant comments and analysis during the film. Some commenting is fine, but seems many reactors talk more and more and more the longer they do reaction videos and it can become very off-putting. You definitely don't have to apologize for not saying too much, especially when you are just engrossed in the film. 🙂. I'm also glad you didn't figure it before the big reveal of the murderer. I was so bummed when you guessed what was going to happen in Shawshank. 😊
A beautiful reaction! As others have said, you didnt intrude by taking through the movie, you watched it, and we could see in your face and your expression the emotion, the sadness and the depth of feeling. Your tears, and your reactions were genuine and heartfelt, and do you great credit. Well done, and thank you!
I don't usually watch reactions, but this is one of my favorite movies and your reaction was genuine. I can tell from the reaction that you are not only beautiful, but have a beautiful spirit. Your husband should consider himself blessed.
"We each owe a death - there are no exceptions - but, oh God, sometimes the Green Mile seems so long." Fun Fact: Originally set in 1932, the timeframe was bumped to 1935 so that the movie Top Hat (1935) could be featured. Jock Strap Incident Fact: Michael Clarke Duncan was uncomfortable with having to grab Tom Hanks' crotch for the scene where John cures Paul's urinary infection. Hanks left the set and came back to do the scene; Duncan grabbed Hanks' crotch and was shocked to discover that he had put an empty water bottle in his trousers. After that, Duncan felt more comfortable with the scene. Measuring Up Fact: In reality, Michael Clarke Duncan was of a similar height to his co-star David Morse, and was a couple of inches shorter than James Cromwell. Amongst other things, creative camera angles were used to create the illusion that Duncan, as John Coffey, towered over the prison staff, even "Brutal" Howell and Warden Moores. For one scene where Paul, Coffey and Brutal were in the same shot, Michael Clark Duncan was standing on a plank, David Morse stood on the ground, and Tom Hanks was standing in a trench dug into the ground just for that purpose.
Actually the movie in the book was not a happy movie that John had seen but instead was a movie that had a truly evil villian that reminded Paul of Wild Bill.
I imagine Michael Clarke Duncan would have been a lot more uncomfortable if he had to cure Paul's urinary infection the same way he cured Melinda Moores' head tumor. 🤣
Hmm, someone with the initials J.C. could heal the sick, raise the dead and while innocent died for the crimes (Sins) of others. During the Flicker Show the Halo surrounding John's head wasn't an accident.
Lovely reaction Evie! Don't worry about being too "passive". Your tears spoke volumes (and we cried along with you). As for additional film recommendations, I would suggest "Arrival", an excellent movie with a great cast, led by Amy Adams (Best Actress-National Board of Review), Jeremy Renner, and Forest Whitaker. If it's time for a romance movie or two, you should react to "Meet Joe Black" (with Brad Pitt, Claire Forlani, and Anthony Hopkins), and/or "The Lake House" (with Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock) and/or "About Time" (with Domhnall Gleeson and Rachel McAdams). All well-acted and interesting love stories with a twist. Subscribed.
John means Beloved and coffe", sounding like but not the same meaning a different meaning, Cough (y) meaning the state of many times coughing(out death, pain and evil) The beloved who sucked in pain suffering evil and death and then coughed it out for to deliver others.
Evie, when a prisoner is on death row, the prisoner is at his end and has nothing to lose. He may lash out at guards or other inmates; he can be a severe danger. When being transported and moved, the guards yell "Dead man walking" to warn others nearby.
Not passive at all, Evie. Your face is very expressive. That's the reaction I'm looking for. Not meaningless words. So many reactors spew continuous questions but if they just shut up and listened they would get their answers. First time watching and a new subscriber. Thanks for sharing with us.
Michael Clarke Duncan, RIP, was 6'5" 315 lbs, but still wore platforms for most of his upright scenes to appear even larger. For reference David Morse (Brutal) is 6'4"
21:30 Coffey felt dales pain through the mouse because notice when Coffey said the kild thm woth their love. Dale Loved tht mouse so when Coffey was holding it he felt it. "He kild them with thy love"
I love this movie. So incredible. Loved your reaction. Ive didnt see this for many years. One night I said Im going to start watching popular movies that Ive never seen. Changed me forever. Seen it many times since then. And I just noticed, that Tom Hanks' character looked at the bucket and realized Percy didnt wet it. Why didnt he stop it at that point? Or, at like, 5 seconds in, realize something was amiss, and cut it? He could have stopped that guy from goin the way he did. Thnx Evie! Glad to know someone else in the world got to experience this and appreciate it.
Girl, I don’t know how you keep from bawling. It still gets me and I’m so glad it does. Maybe that means I have a little more humanity than I thought. If you loved this, you should try “Powder”. Another amazing film. ☺️
I think the insinuation is that John takes "Evil" out. As an abstract concept more than an objective thing. Not necessarily that removing a brain tumor will result in him then giving a brain tumor. He took "Evil" out of Melinda and put "Evil" in Percy. Percy was already pretty evil tho so. I dunno if its a scale thing. He took out an evil that wouldve taken a life so the evil he put into Percy ended up taking a life. Either way, John has some control over it as he clearly intended to Kill Bill (no pun intended) through Percy. I dunno, Im just theorising.
Great reaction to a wonderful movie Evie. Your empathy and compassion shined throughout and I enjoyed your thoughtful remarks at the end. Your face is very expressive just as it is ... no need for histrionics or excess commentary.
Thing about defense lawyers is their job is not to believe in their clients' innocence. They just have to give the jury enough reasonable doubt to not give a guilty verdict. But I believe that there's reasonable doubt in every case, so most juries will probably vote guilty just to be done with it. Also, it was the 30s, so there was no way Coffey was getting a fair trial in those days.
Now you understand why Stephen King is such a massively renowned author. Sure, he's known for horror but stories like this and Shawshank are insanely well written.
1. YOU WILL CRY 2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie". 3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935.) 4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row. 5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won. 6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist, Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse: The Langoliers. 7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream. 8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill. 9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of being Percy.👌 10. A little fun fact: Toot Toot the trustee is played by Harry Dean Stanton.(RIP) The other guards' names are Harry Terwilliger/Jeffery DeMunn and Dean Stanton/Barry Pepper. 11. IRL both David Morse and James Cromwell are about the same height as Michael Clark Duncan (RIP). They used planks, a small bed and smaller chair along with trick photography to make John taller. 12 The scene where John takes Mr. Jingles for safe keeping before Del's execution they used a real mouse and it pooped on Paul's shoulder and he brushed it off. 13. Now we know what the "day old is fine" dry toast is for. 14 EVERYBODY cries and has to take time to reflect. Congratulations you just experienced the GREATEST MOVIE EVER. 15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
Three more: 1. Sam Rockwell really enjoyed playing the role of 'Wild Bill' 2. Stephen King visted the set, crew and actors strapped him into that electric chair for fun.... and leaving him for a few minutes, pretending that they're went for lunch. 3. David Morse calls the scene where Wild Bill spit the moon pie into his face "the most dangerous stunt in i've ever done' because Morse is highly allergic to choccolate.
Along with it's sort of sister film, The Shawshank Redemption, I believe it is one of the Greatest Stories not to mention such a poignant film. And no matter how many times I have seen it, it still breaks me down. True films that capture magic in celluloid do that...
The TRUE mindblower behind all of this, is how this story proves how 'greatly' Steven King's writing improved over the decades. He is truly a Master Story Teller. People who don't write have no idea how difficult putting multiple well-formed characters into a story and carrying out that story by revealing those characters. It takes dedication 'and' brilliance to do it superbly. Nobody just 'wings it', when such stories as this get finished. This, and the novella 'Rita Hayworth or Shawshank Redemption' are master works. Thank you for putting this up here. If you ever take up investing, then I suggest that you put your money into Kleenex.
When talking about the girls, John said I TRIED to take it back but it was too late. About the infection he said I took it back and about Mister Jingles he said I took it back. Actually he first said give him to me there might still be time! 👱♀👱♀👗👗👠👠💓💓
one of the best films of all time with some of the BEST Acting you will ever see a true masterclass on both account's i must have watched this movie at least 30 times.. and it never gets old.
John Coffey is a Christ figure. He appeared out of nowhere, as if he had just “fallen out of the sky.” He has foreknowledge of future events. He can see the good or evil that is in men’s hearts. He can heal illness and afflictions and resurrect the dead (if it’s not too late). He is innocent, with a pure soul, yet he is made to suffer and die because of the sins and wickedness of others. And even his initials are J.C., just like Jesus.
Michael Clarke Duncan was a big guy, but he was filmed to look bigger. He was always filmed up at, doorways were made shorter, entrances to cells were made shorter, so he would have to duck his head.
Hey Evie, you mentioned you liked the actor Sam Rockwell (Wild Bill, Billy The Kid). He is a great actor and 2 of his movies I think are great are Mr. Right and Jojo Rabbit. Please check out those movies if you haven't seen them.
@@elbruces I agree, Seven Psychopaths, Blue Iguana, Moon and Three Billboards outside of Ebbing MO. Everything he is in he's great. So many other movies, I agree.
My dad was a kid during the depression. Alot of the scenery cars phones everything u see in here, is like how he described. Or my great aunt's and uncles. U should do some true like or true story war movies. Like 13 hours, Lone Survivor, hacksaw Ridge, Once we were Soldiers, Blackhawk Down, Fury, saving Private Ryan.
3 hours but feels like 1 hour. You don't notice the time. I like to think we see mr. Jingles last breath at the end showing that eventually Paul will get his end.
I prefer to hope that Paul eventually stops punishing himself and leaves the retirement community / nursing home that he's in, off to travel the world to see new sights, gather new experiences, and make new friends.
10:09 You know him? You like him? Me too. I saw a movie where he was the main role, and was blown away by his excellent performance. If you'd like to see it, it's called "Moon" (2009). I think it won some awards.
I enjoyed your reaction. I usually don't like reactions to TV shows, although you choose some good ones, but when you react to good movies, I'll be back.
You nailed it on the head, where Sam Rockwell is concerned. He does play so many roles like this in other movies. But, he is still brilliant in this movie!
3:29 "Is he _really_ that _big?"_ Not quite. He's close, though. The character, John Coffey, stands 6'8". The actor playing him, the late Michael Clarke Duncan, stood 6'5".
You recognized Heywood from The Shawshank Redemption right away, nice, most people never do. There are three actors in both movies, Heywood of course is the father of the murdered girls, the sheriff who arrests John Coffey is the inmate who tells Red and Andy that Brooks is attacking Heywood, and Harry the prison guard is the Prosecutor during Andy Dufresne's opening scene trial
If you want to see a completely different movie with Sam Rockwell (Wild Bill) try "Mr. Right". Oh and BTW, I consider this movie a sociopath test. If you don't cry, you are a sociopath.
What is that drawl Brutal has, or regional accent? "POICEY" , "IS THAT HOW IT WOIKS", "COICUS" (Circus). Mickey has it in Rocky franchise too, which you should react to too.
"Three hours... that's a long movie..." Some "Hold my beer" contenders : [2021] Zack Snyder's Justice League (4h02m) [1956] The Ten Commandments (3h52m) [1963] Cleopatra (4h11m)
At the end, when "old Tom Hanks" says that he was being punished by not being able to die, I believe he isn't talking about John punishing him, but GOD. Because he killed a chosen one of GOD. And it was GOD making him pay for it.
The book goes into some more things that leads him to the conclusion like the deaths of some of the other characters at the end of the story. The young guard (he was Harry in the book as the movie reversed the names of Harry and Dean) does in a prison riot shortly afterwards. Warden Moores dies before his wife does. Jan dies in a terrible bus accident in Paul's arms and he thinks he sees John Coffey at the scene, but he walks away. FYI the 2 guards were named Harry and Dean in honor of the actor Harry Dean Stanton whom Stephen King admired and Harry Dean Stanton played Toot Toot in the movie (the inmate they used for rehearsals).
Fun fact: the author of the book says that John Coffey's initials hint at his true identity. He is a poor miracle healer who is sacrificed for the sins of others. J.C.
If I'm sick and I want to clear up my sinuses by crying, I put this movie on, and I'm usually a mess from they "in danger of hell" scene to the end. PS- Watch Road to Perdition, another great Tom Hanks film!
The scars on his body suggest he was much older than he appears. "No matter how it happened, Del was the lucky one." I took this as Coffey knowing the only way he can die is being killed.
I don't think John Coffee cursed Paul. I don't think Paul thinks he was cursed by John Coffee. I think Paul believes this curse is straight from God for killing God's miracle.
According to an interview, Stephen King said John Coffey (JC) is supposed to be the 2nd coming of the Messiah. There are several things in the movie indicating this. Many are obvious. He's a seer, a healer. He's so gentle & simple but yet he knows all the constellations. He feels the hate from all over the world. And many more things. I think Percy must be the most hated character ever. I'm so glad I didn't live in the times of outhouses! Too cold to pee outside in Michigan. I cry every time I see this movie.
Well, yes John Coffey was tired. Tired of people being ugly to each other. I know I've been ugly to others, and this makes me suspect that many, or most people have been, in their lives, before they experienced enough to feel that that behavior is regrettable, and thus avoidable. But there's always a new generation coming up, uninformed, who will do monstrous things to others, before they learn -- if they do, ever. I understand his pain.
That was a great movie and very good reactions , love how you don't talk over the movie, you have a wonderful heart ❤️ hopefully you get a chance to watch 'The Terminal ' Tom Hanks is amazing in it
You should check out Tom Hank's first movie Batchelor Party. It's hysterical. The Chippendales scene will have you rolling. Splash is also a cute romcom
_Bachelor Party_ (1984) was not Tom Hanks' first movie. He made his film debut in the 1980 slasher movie _He Knows You're Alone._ Also, _Splash_ was released the same year as _Bachelor Party,_ but a few months earlier.
@@luckylenny8634 And it's funny that many apologize for not talking that much, and I'm like 'no, you talked too much already' 😅 I just don't think it's appealing to have to hear everything little thing that pops into their heads. Especially when important dialogue is still happening and you feel like they missed it, for nothing really. But they seem to get more positive feedback than negative, so they probably think very highly of the job they're doing. But I think a lot more than that just turn it off and don't make any comments - won't bother to tell them they did a bad reaction.

Dale
Loved tht mouse so when Coffey was holding it he felt it.
Stephen King sure can write 'em. He wrote the Shawshank Remdemption
Well there's urine in every god damn book. I've read about 30 of them but I had enough.
21:27 John Coffey is an empath. He feels the emotions of the people around him.
One of my all time favorite movies. Just so emotional and as you said bitter sweet!
I think he was saying God was punishing him by making him live long.
I enjoyed watching this with you. Thank you
Michael Clarke Duncan was 6’5”but they used risers to make him look taller
1. YOU WILL CRY
2. Dabbs Greer/old Paul was ill during production, so his part was done later. He also played Reverend Alden on "Little House on the Prairie".
3. Hammersmith was not a good lawyer. (most likely a racial thing. It was 1935.)
4. In the book King briefly covers why the Chief and Del are on death row.
5. This movie was nominated for Best Supporting Actor and Best Cast but unfortunately neither won.
6. Players in other King adaptations: Jeffery DeMunn: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist,
Storm of the Century and William Sadler: Shawshank Redemption, The Mist. David Morse:
The Langoliers.
7. Goof: Electricity makes the body contract. Del wouldn't be able to scream.
8. IRL James Cromwell is a vegan and didn't want to grill meat for the BBQ scene but
was told that in 1935 people actually ate meat so he agreed to have some on the grill.
9. RE Percy: Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. KARMA's a Bitch. BTW Kudos to Doug Hutchison for the great job of being Percy.👌
10. A little fun fact: Toot Toot the trustee is played by Harry Dean Stanton.(RIP) The other guards' names are Harry Terwilliger/Jeffery DeMunn
and Dean Stanton/Barry Pepper.
Congratulations you just experienced
the GREATEST MOVIE EVER.
15. 4 words for you: Stephen King. You're WELCOME!
Three more:
1. Sam Rockwell really enjoyed playing the role of 'Wild Bill'
@@Concorde4711 I knew a couple of those. Thanks
Sam Rockwell, who plays Wild Bill, is impressive in a very different role in "Moon."
One of my favorite films for its simplicity.
He really won me over in Three billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri
@@ill-eagle0155 I haven't seen it, but have read that it is good.
Thanks for the Dropbox Link =)
I’ve watched this film a hundred times and not once did I ever make the connection that the dad was the same actor who play Heywood in Shawshank. 🤯
Hey Evie, you mentioned you liked the actor Sam Rockwell (Wild Bill, Billy The Kid). He is a great actor and 2 of his movies I think are great are Mr. Right and Jojo Rabbit. Please check out those movies if you haven't seen them.
Also Galaxy Quest, Iron Man 2, and many others.
@@elbruces I agree, Seven Psychopaths, Blue Iguana, Moon and Three Billboards outside of Ebbing MO. Everything he is in he's great. So many other movies, I agree.
And Green Mile. He's one of those actors who I didn't realize how much I'd already seen him until later on.
John lived in the life he was given.
He didn't want anyone to hurt.
He did unintentionally.
Stephen King is the writer.
Do more please.
Thank You for calling Percy out. Great Reaction
John Coffee is meant to be somewhat a reincarnation of Jesus Christ, hence why they share the same initials and have a similar destiny.
No. Not John giving him the Xtra life as punishment,. Tom Hanks was saying it was punishment from God for taking on of his healers,.
28:15. Very, very accurate. Never heard the second part of this, but you are absolutely right.
This is one of my favorite movies. Thank you for sharing your reaction.
10:09 You know him? You like him? Me too. I saw a movie where he was the main role, and was blown away by his excellent performance. If you'd like to see it, it's called "Moon" (2009). I think it won some awards.
Thanks 4 reacting to TGM! Watched at least 20 times & ur reaction brought a tear to my eyes. F Percy!
37:30 You don't have to speak; you say so much with your eyes. Lovely reaction!
She always does. :D
Great reaction! Thank you for sharing your experience with us.
3:29 "Is he _really_ that _big?"_
Not quite. He's close, though. The character, John Coffey, stands 6'8". The actor playing him, the late Michael Clarke Duncan, stood 6'5".
Very easy on the eye with those glasses 😉
You recognized Heywood from The Shawshank Redemption right away, nice, most people never do. There are three actors in both movies, Heywood of course is the father of the murdered girls, the sheriff who arrests John Coffey is the inmate who tells Red and Andy that Brooks is attacking Heywood, and Harry the prison guard is the Prosecutor during Andy Dufresne's opening scene trial
"I didn't know the sponge was supposed to be wet"
I smell bull****🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Especially because he knelt by the bucket. What did he think he was supposed to be doing there? Praying? 🤦♂
he took Del's pain away...
"Three hours... that's a long movie..."
Some "Hold my beer" contenders :
[2021] Zack Snyder's Justice League (4h02m)
[1956] The Ten Commandments (3h52m)
[1963] Cleopatra (4h11m)
J.C.
I love when you do movie reactions. Can't wait for the next one.
Michael klarke Duncan
He was 6'5. 315 pounds
One of Hollywood’s perfect movies
i would like to highly recommend the classic film called *Angel's Heart* (1987) with Robert DeNiro
If I'm sick and I want to clear up my sinuses by crying, I put this movie on, and I'm usually a mess from they "in danger of hell" scene to the end.
PS- Watch Road to Perdition, another great Tom Hanks film!
The way I see it, we don’t know how old John was. I assume he’s not that old, but he had “powers “. Great story and great reaction!
He was a slave.
Ashleigh Burton sobbed at the end of this movie. If a mouse can live so long, how old was John Coffey?
This is my 1st video of yours great reaction I'll have to check your other stuff but you earned a new subscriber
I like 'passive', thank you very much. Not a fan of stepping on the movie just to say something to fill space. Thanks for this one Evie.
Agree. I think most of us appreciate the emotional reaction more than the technical reaction (especially for this movie).
@@luckylenny8634 And it's funny that many apologize for not talking that much, and I'm like 'no, you talked too much already' 😅
I just don't think it's appealing to have to hear everything little thing that pops into their heads.
7:47 lol, you almost looked guilty for laughing :D
The reprimand worked ^^
you are the most beautiful reactor I've ever seen....my eyes to do to turn green when I cry...hope that's not inappropriate
Beautiful reaction. Thank you
Regarding the Gary Sinise character being his lawyer, in the book he isn't his lawyer and is just a reporter that reported on the trial.
If you haven’t seen it, I would recommend Mr.Right. Sam Rockwell and Anna Kendrick. Bit if a rom-com, but with violence😄
Great reaction. If you ever branch out into different genres of movies be cool to watch you react to 'Kick Ass' and 'Tropic Thunder' (if you haven't already seen them of course!)
Don't worry, you did great!
