That is the largest nugget I've seen come out of North America for a long time. I have dug and panned for gold for over 40 years and the biggest nugget I've ever found weighed just a little over 7 ounces with most everything else being under a ounce and lots of dust. That's a once in a lifetime find my friend, enjoy it and don't sell it by the weight, there are lots of collectors out there that will pay double and maybe triple the worth in weight to add it to their collection
7 ounce nugget is still a huge nugget congrats would love to find even a couple gram nugget saddly all ive ever found is fly poop and one or to decant flakes

I live in West Virginia on the Maryland border I'm 1 minute from Maryland and I'm only 30 minutes from Virginia and only 15 minutes from Pennsylvania. I would love to start looking for gold but I know nothing about it. Idk where to start but I would have to say I live by some good spots. Does anyone have any ideas where I should go near me. I think Harper's Ferry West Virginia would be a good place to go. It's only 30 minutes from me.
What's funny is that by today's standards, it's a huge nugget! However, in 1799, when the first documented discovery of gold in North America happened, it was a 17 pound nugget that started it. A few years later, on the same property, even larger nuggets were found.
*15 ounces is 425 grams. It's almost $100 CAD for every 1 gram of gold nugget in British Columbia. So, this is actually closest to $40,000 CAD on the B.C. market.*
Fifteen ounces of GOLD is much heavier than the same 15 ounces of hamburger. This is because gold is weighed in troy ounce which are 31.103 grams (close to) whereas hamburger is only 28.3564 grams per ounce!
Regardless an ounce is an ounce weather you weigh they in standard ounces or troy ounces they would be the same weight. So 15 ounces of hamburger would weigh exactly the same as 15 ounces of gold you are comparing 2 different weight measurements that apples and oranges
You sound like my gym trainer who said a pound of fat weighs more than a pound of muscle. A pound is a pound an ounce is an ounce, but some objects are more dense than others.❤

Just looking at that extraordinary nugget immediately makes you realize why they call it "gold fever". This is what happened in the Klondike and all the famous gold rushes of history, when nuggets like these inspired thousands of gold-crazed people to flock to the places where these were first discovered.
It’s worth more than its weight just because of the pure size and shape being a prime specimen of a nugget A guy recently found a nugget in California washed out of a hillside that was very large
Heh. Here’s a fun fact about the history of precious metals: Aluminum was considered MORE valuable than gold over 100 years ago, even though it is a very common element in earth’s crust, because nobody had any idea for most of history on how to efficiently extract it en mass from various soils & stones until new smelting techniques were developed in the 1920s. Prior to that, the only way to get pure aluminum was by finding nuggets or veins of naturally pure ore, & those ARE extremely rare, usually in certain basaltic environments like Devil’s Tower. Prior to the new smelting techniques, there were greedy entrepreneurs who looked to the tower very hungrily because it may be the richest potential source of naturally pure aluminum in the world. Fortunately, it is now literally as cheap as the dirt it’s extracted from.
Remember that these kind of nuggets are never melted, is more valuable as it is for collectors, nuggets that size are pretty rare specimens, you can maybe make double it's gold price and sometimes even more like triple the price
The best thing I’ve found was a bundle of 100 one hundred dollar bills at my credit union by the front door. I still can’t believe it. 10,000 dollars. I walked in and a woman dropped 2 more bundles of the same amount so she dropped 30K. I returned it. My son was with me and saw me being honest so that was a good lesson.
