    Hey Vern, behind some of those shops there are spaces you can sit. Only the locals know about them. Luckily because I worked near there I got a lot of joy out of those spaces after a hard day's graft. :)

    Enjoyed the vlog, Vern. We have something in common. We are both fishermen and once it's in your blood, it stays there forever, no matter which part of the world you find yourself in. When you're a fisherman, you're drawn to water and people wetting a line. You are Canadian and I am Australian and both our countries are blessed with many, many places to fish and catch fish.

    • @HeyVernTravels

      Agreed , once bitten always hooked :) Well daid Frank. How is the fishing in Australia?

      @@HeyVernTravels It's all about conditions, fishing the low light periods, working the tides, fishing as light as you can get away with and using the freshest bait you can source - guess this applies to everywhere.

    You were absolutely right, there are not many places to sit down and relax, have a meal or a drink or just rest in the whole of Thailand.

    Hey Vern, did you hear about the bureau of immigration in the Philippines giving essentially a grace or relief period to people overstaying their visas..... man it's like I just wonder what your opinion is about that if you'd like to comment that is...
    This was a TH-camr reporting this 4 hours ago on TH-cam from the Philippines from Luzon....
    Correct me if I'm wrong Vern but weren't you forced to leave because your Visa was going to expire when you left for turkey and if you would have overstayed you would have been given this grace period this is incredible...
    I don't know what to say...

      Hey Zayne. Seen that also... A year too late. My thoughts..ok They had a perfect opportunity to keep people there spending money to help the local economy, but they blew it, no forethought . Often times when things are good people get headstrung thinking they are on top of it all and of their own doing. Then the bottom falls out but the pride remains. Then the humbling begins...They were doing great, now the humbling for them. Thailand is showing Asia exactly how to move through covid, where is the PH in the same motion? They had a force of people and business going towards a green lane in July, but they killed it off....wouldn't even try it. So yea when they are behind the 8 ball at every turn, only the worst can be the result imho. Is it political? Is it China calling the shots? Or is it just terrible leadership, or all of the above....At this point I am more confused than anyone.

      Never heard that one before Richard lol. Although when I was 11/12 I walked upong a dock at a lake in Minneapolis and two kids were there, I went up to them asking a question and one kid flat out decked me. I took the punch and asked why he hit me ...the kids got scared and took off as I shook it off. Maybe that was why, I will never know.

    Around two minutes after talking about tables to sit at, you passed a few tables to your right. I did not like silk worm, as you said, mushy. Better with fried grasshopper/cricket or fresh small sour ant :) And about languages, how many languages do the normal american know? I would guess on 1,01 if we do not count all that are immigrants and speak their native language. Thai is very difficult to learn for us, and english cant be much easier for them to learn. They dont study it much in school and if they only see a farang once a month, how could they know english then?

    • @HeyVernTravels
      @HeyVernTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You seem to know your bugs ;>) Americans don't know many languages. Some know about 1.5 ha that is true. See here is what I see....so many languages are only useful at home then beyond that they have little value.. So to have some common language skills such as English, as it is known a little bit in most parts of the world, would seem to make sense etc. I chat allot of foreigners and they don't stay long in countries that don't know a basic language they know, they just feel like a an outsider. Languages are hard to learn, for me it is a very slow process. I really admire those that know several languages.

      @@HeyVernTravels The thais are poor and cant travel abroad, so their only language is thai. I love Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar... the language is not a barrier. For me the thing is that I need a challenge, and then I dont mean climbing trees or mountains, but just handle the day in those countries is a small adventure, and I love it! That is why many people love it! It never gets boring. Many farangs go to the tourists spots, stay at the same western hotel for a month and say that they had a great stay in Thailand. They could as well have been in Spain or Mexico, they dont notice the difference, it is cheaper than Spain and not as many murders as in Mexico thou... My language is Swedish, I know English and Spanish, but thai... no. I want to move there when I retire but the language I will never master. Then I miss parts of the culture and other things, but it will be fun, interesting and frightening! Great!
