Story of Seasons Friends of Mineral Town is one I’m keeping my eye on for later this year. A remake of an old Gameboy classic, it adds a bunch of stuff while keeping a more simplistic gameplay of the original. It looks charming.
Friends of Mineral Town back on the GBA was the game that got me back into gaming after drifting out of it for a while. An amazing game that I put hundreds of hours into. I even bought the GameCube Harvest Moon game and a link cable just so I could link my towns. Glen
I'd be excited for this more if Stardew Valley didn't beat it too so well. Part of the what made FOMT so good was the cute GBA graphics but the remake looks cheap

“Story of Seasons” used to be “Harvest Moon”!!! Harvest Moon was the English title, but the US translation team and the Japanese creators parted ways. Sadly the English translation team wasn’t happy about this so they kept the rights to the English title of “Harvest Moon” and produced their own ripped-off version of the original Japanese farming simulation game. So now the original Japanese title is being sold as “Story of Seasons”. This was actually what inspired the creator of Stardew Valley. It breaks my heart Story of Seasons is getting lost in the shuffle. I highly recommend it! My favorite titles from the line may belong to some earlier consoles outside of the switch, but they recently remade a classic favorite for the switch called: Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral town. They’re also working on releasing another switch title too! ☺️ If you like knowing the origin and history of what inspired games like Stardew Valley, I highly recommend.
Doraemon Story of Seasons is a good farm sim..... IF you can deal with the “Doraemon” part of the game. It has a story with specific characters, so you don’t get to make your own. The cutscenes are ridiculously long, even just getting to the real gameplay takes nearly an hour. And for some reason, they thought having the main character say “eh! eh! eh!” after every single action was a good idea. Maybe turn the volume down and listen to a podcast, so your ears don’t bleed.
@@MidoriTheAwesome Id like that. I was enjoying it, but I was also at a point where I didn’t like using my 3DS. I wouldn’t mind them porting all their 3DS games, but Trio of Towns probably holds up the best.
I just wanna say, I got a switch for the first time last month, and you guys have been my ABSOLUTE favorite go-to reviewers for recommendations. Even if I don't agree with you (which is very rare), you give your reasons so well that I can know if I'll like something even if you didn't.
The remake of the GBA version of Harvest Moon Friends on Mineral Town is definitely a go. Its just the English release is not yet determined. Once that version is released, I think it can compete with Stardew Valley. That's only my opinion though.
Rune Factory 4 Special is one to watch out for this month. Not much customization on the farm unlike Stardew’s but I feel it’s a little deeper since the soil sections have stats/attributes. IMO it has more charm than Stardew Valley and ruined other farming style games for me so far. It’s worth a check if u like these types of games!
It has, by far, one of the best casts of any game like this. Almost everyone is vibrant, interesting, and likable. Makes picking a wife/husband very difficult!
Definitely agree. Personally I found it much more engaging and interesting than stardew valley. I see stardew valley as quite static, while I'd consider rune factory 4 dynamic
Honestly I wouldn’t really compare them because both are so so fantastic but so different. If you love StarDew you should absolutely try Rune Factory 4. The characters and simple battle mechanics are where I think Rune Factory 4 shone. It’s relaxing and you feel like you’re always doing something. Amazing.

There’s a really decent cheap arcade farming/planting sim called PLANTERA...you have to grow crops and protect them from various animals like rabbits,moles,foxes and birds...there are achievements to complete and the game also includes touch screen controls...it’s a fun budget game😃
Stardew Valley caught me off guard. I got sucked in and lost hours to this game. I love it is done at the player’s pace. You do what you want, when you want. You can play every day, or put it down and come back months later. There is not urgency to make you feel like you have to play. It’s really relaxing, and a lot of fun.
Did you know stardew valley was made by one guy????!!!!!! He’s a freaking legend first game in my life time I poured 100Hrs on the Nintendo switch it’s the best way to play so I can put 1000 even on the go. Loved this list! So much variety! I’m really enjoying Yonder, Farm Together, My Time at Portia, Stardew Valley and the very silly Plantera which is an iOS game with ports on the 3DS and Switch. While I have Dragon Quest II and Harvest Moon (Light of Hope, Mad Dash) and Doraemon Story of Seasons, I find myself going back to Yonder, Farm Together and Stardew Valley.
I still need to get into Stardew Valley. I can understand the appeal of these games and I enjoyed Dragon Quest Builders 2 for a few days . I get bored , but maybe I’ll find the one with the right visuals/music/story to keep me engaged for longer . Thanks for the video !
Still the best farming sim ever made somehow, it's crazy. The game can be as tryhard as setting up 50 sprinklers by the end of Spring and end up with 100K+ money or just you giving gifts and fishing for the next 3 years before you turn in your first community bundle. Now that might seem the game lacks depth but that's so not true, late game stuff in this game gets crazy and you seriously start getting AC levels of customization.
I get this beautiful Ircha hit me out of left field and then book bound Brisbane review. Now sure why Bookbound was here, anytime to see Ircha is great.
I said I won’t play the Stardew valley, but then. I give it a try, and oh boy. It’s really good game, and I haven’t have a good sleep since I played the game, now. Because of that, I want to buy a pc and do mods in Stardew valley, that’s how I got addicted to it.
Just want to say to anyone considering Harvest Moon for Switch, it's not the same series now! Story of Seasons is the new name! Natsume is using the Harvest Moon title now. It's been Story of Seasons after 'A New Beginning'
well for doraemon story of season, it's basically the real harvest moon at this moment aside from stardew valley. I love every moment of it especially the art and soundtrack. You guys should really test that game out for sure
Stardew is obviously my most played game at over 500 hours now, and already on just my first runthrough of it Dragon Quest Builders 2 has become my second most played game, lol. And I absolutely loved every minute of Graveyard Keeper, especially when I got the DLC and got zombie crazy, lol. Absolutely recommend it!

My mom loves farming stuff and I keep trying to get her to get a switch. She's already played the crap out of Stardew and I dunno if she could put up with the anime style of Story of Seasons Doraemon or whatever it is.
The best Farming Sim on Switch, in my opinion, is Doraemon Story of Seasons! You should definitely give it a go. I prefer it way more than Stardew Valley. It has the best art style out of any of these other games by far. The farming mechanics are really good and it’s a very addictive, highly polished game with great characters and story. The demo doesn’t do a good job of showing the game off because the first hour of the game is dialogue and cut scenes. The game is very story driven which I love because it really sets itself apart from these other typical sims where you just inherit a farm. Farming, exploring and growing your relationships with the towns people advances the story. Also I had no idea what Doraemon was before I played this and you don’t need to know anything whatsoever. You’ll learn about the characters personalities throughout the game and if you want more background on the characters I recommend watching the first episode of the Doraemon English dubbed show. After playing for 5 hours I was curious so I watched that first episode and then the game became even more interesting because there is so much lore behind the characters. Anyways great video! It made me want to give Dragon Quest Builder 2 a go. And I think I’m going to give Stardew another go as well.
You know I really respect you guys not recommending a game you haven't played properly some people don't have that integrity. I would say portal knights fits here as well it has a story bosses , crafting and multiple randomly generated world's to explore.
I am a bit scared to start another farming sim. I got too addicted to Stardew valley about 2 years ago. I purchased graveyard keeper recently though, haven't tried it yet
At first I was kinda off about Stardew Valley pixel graphic and focus to buy Doraemon SoS because it has 3D graphic like HM Back to Nature but because my local supplier doesnt have any of the english version, I was kinda "force" to buy Stardew Valley which also my 2nd choice due to everyone been saying SDV is the better game. Once I start to play, boy did I wrong for overlook it. The pixel graphic grew out on me. Now it's the best game on my Switch library. P/S: the SDV pixel graphic is because it was inspired by the original SNES Harvest Moon which also have a pixel graphic
For clarification, games like these that aren't straight up true to life farming simulations are typically referred to as "Farmlife" Sims. You are living the life of a farmer, not JUST farming. "Farming" sims are the ones where you are JUST farming.
I never really understood Stardew Valley. I have the game, I tried and I can't really feel I'm getting better. I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong, but I plant my seeds, barely get enough money to buy things, I try to befriend the people but they don't care about me, the quests make no sense (Haunted house? Magician?), I can't fish properly, I never manage to get the items the people ask me in the requests menu, I never get nice gifts to give the people... I play more and more and I'm just stuck at being poor in this game.
This style really has taken off in the last few years, I’m sure Animal Crossing will fill my Farm like need (mild farming please) I’m gonna save my bells for mister Nook
Doraemon: Story of Seasons is a nice game, but it doesn't really do anything better than Stardew Valley: every level in the mines looks the same, there is no combat; fishing is boring because you only press one button and fish often don't bite for several hours; there is no romance/marriage, of course; the characters are more superficial and have no edge; tool upgrades are way too grindy and often have no or barely any effect; and there's no customization of your character. It does, however, has really beautiful visuals, some fun festival mini-games, beautiful and varied acoustic soundtrack and an interesting overall story.
Yes farms together there 😜 Finally and also you can play with 8-10 people online i think yes it has a little mobile expansion but everything is free. And also thay always get updated and have some events Mission and get new material. And animals new decorations and everything also the next event start in 5 days. !! Harvest moon isn’t the legacy title you think it is! Long story short, the games used to be put out by Natsume. When the creators of HM left Natsume they couldn’t use that title anymore so they had to change it to Story of Seasons a few years ago. The HM games that come out these days are just sad knockoffs with the same name as the good ones.
Each game is great but they all have something missing :/ Doraemon just has too many cut scenes and it holds your hand too much. farm together is great for its replayability but it lacks progression other than decorations for your farm. Stardew would be perfect if it was as re-playable but after completing it once I find it hard to go back
Majority of these games were boring, unfortunately. Some of them can give your a couple hours of gameplay, but definitely not the best games current technology and knowledge can create. MtaP and DQB2 were my favorites for a while though, so there's still hope for this genre.
Harvest moon and story of seasons do nothing you can’t find in stardew better. Such a shame Japanese companies just spin their wheels and pump out the same game for decades on end.
I would recommend Story of Seasons and SoS: Trio of Towns on the 3DS. They’re the last two real “Harvest Moons” after the series name change (long story). We also have Friends of Mineral Town getting a remake under the Story of Season’s name, later this year. It’ll be a bit simplistic compared to modern farm sims, since it is a remake of a GBA game, but it still looks great. But yes, ever since Natsume took over the name “Harvest Moon,” they’ve done nothing but churn out trash.

I turned off the voices in the settings. Yes, it turns off the all the other voices, too, but I don't mind.

The demo doesn’t do a good job of showing the game off because the first hour of the game is dialogue and cut scenes. The game is very story driven which I love because it really sets itself apart from these other typical sims where you just inherit a farm.
Farming, exploring and growing your relationships with the towns people advances the story.
Also I had no idea what Doraemon was before I played this and you don’t need to know anything whatsoever. You’ll learn about the characters personalities throughout the game and if you want more background on the characters I recommend watching the first episode of the Doraemon English dubbed show. After playing for 5 hours I was curious so I watched that first episode and then the game became even more interesting because there is so much lore behind the characters.
Anyways great video! It made me want to give Dragon Quest Builder 2 a go. And I think I’m going to give Stardew another go as well.

You know I really respect you guys not recommending a game you haven't played properly some people don't have that integrity. I would say portal knights fits here as well it has a story bosses , crafting and multiple randomly generated world's to explore.
I am a bit scared to start another farming sim. I got too addicted to Stardew valley about 2 years ago. I purchased graveyard keeper recently though, haven't tried it yet

At first I was kinda off about Stardew Valley pixel graphic and focus to buy Doraemon SoS because it has 3D graphic like HM Back to Nature but because my local supplier doesnt have any of the english version, I was kinda "force" to buy Stardew Valley which also my 2nd choice due to everyone been saying SDV is the better game. Once I start to play, boy did I wrong for overlook it. The pixel graphic grew out on me. Now it's the best game on my Switch library.
P/S: the SDV pixel graphic is because it was inspired by the original SNES Harvest Moon which also have a pixel graphic

For clarification, games like these that aren't straight up true to life farming simulations are typically referred to as "Farmlife" Sims. You are living the life of a farmer, not JUST farming. "Farming" sims are the ones where you are JUST farming.

I never really understood Stardew Valley. I have the game, I tried and I can't really feel I'm getting better. I don't know exactly what I'm doing wrong, but I plant my seeds, barely get enough money to buy things, I try to befriend the people but they don't care about me, the quests make no sense (Haunted house? Magician?), I can't fish properly, I never manage to get the items the people ask me in the requests menu, I never get nice gifts to give the people... I play more and more and I'm just stuck at being poor in this game.

Doraemon: Story of Seasons is a nice game, but it doesn't really do anything better than Stardew Valley: every level in the mines looks the same, there is no combat; fishing is boring because you only press one button and fish often don't bite for several hours; there is no romance/marriage, of course; the characters are more superficial and have no edge; tool upgrades are way too grindy and often have no or barely any effect; and there's no customization of your character.
It does, however, has really beautiful visuals, some fun festival mini-games, beautiful and varied acoustic soundtrack and an interesting overall story.

Yes farms together there 😜 Finally and also you can play with 8-10 people online i think yes it has a little mobile expansion but everything is free. And also thay always get updated and have some events Mission and get new material. And animals new decorations and everything also the next event start in 5 days. !! Harvest moon isn’t the legacy title you think it is! Long story short, the games used to be put out by Natsume. When the creators of HM left Natsume they couldn’t use that title anymore so they had to change it to Story of Seasons a few years ago.
The HM games that come out these days are just sad knockoffs with the same name as the good ones.

Each game is great but they all have something missing :/ Doraemon just has too many cut scenes and it holds your hand too much. farm together is great for its replayability but it lacks progression other than decorations for your farm. Stardew would be perfect if it was as re-playable but after completing it once I find it hard to go back

Majority of these games were boring, unfortunately. Some of them can give your a couple hours of gameplay, but definitely not the best games current technology and knowledge can create.
MtaP and DQB2 were my favorites for a while though, so there's still hope for this genre.

I would recommend Story of Seasons and SoS: Trio of Towns on the 3DS. They’re the last two real “Harvest Moons” after the series name change (long story). We also have Friends of Mineral Town getting a remake under the Story of Season’s name, later this year. It’ll be a bit simplistic compared to modern farm sims, since it is a remake of a GBA game, but it still looks great.
But yes, ever since Natsume took over the name “Harvest Moon,” they’ve done nothing but churn out trash.
The new “harvest moon” games are knock offs! The real HM games are called Story of Seasons now!!!
