Was looking for some Roku inspiration and this deck tech turned up. Really fun to see just how far DJ's videos have come. And the commander format for that matter.
13:15 about progenitor mimic. he did not mention in the vid but fun fact. any clone copy that targeted a pro mimic also gains its ability to poop out copies each turn because it is not a copy itself. so if you played a pro mimic on a biovisionary then played a phantasmal image on the progenitor mimic both will make a token copy each turn and so on.
You know, one card everyone seems to be oblivious to in commander is Diplomatic Immunity. i am shocked i do not see it in more decks! Just a thought though , lol it just seems like a good way to protect your commander and subsequently force a bored wipe , which can be used to great advantage depending on your strategy and commander.
I see it in Zur a lot. I agree that this card has a lot more applications than people give it credit. One downside for this deck is that it gives the equivalent of shroud NOT hexproof so it shuts off some of my own ways to target my stuff (kikijiki, some copy effects, etc) If you have a more pure Riku deck this would give perfect protection to your most important creature. Thanks!
I've build a Riku full of goodstuff, I've put a lot of combos together, token doublers and stuff like that, it's a really fun deck to play, 'cause sometimes you win outta nowhere. The last game I've played, I had parallel lives on the field, made a copy of a biovisionary which resulted in 3 biovisionaries on the field, then I've used a dack's duplicate to make a fourth copy and boom, won outta nowhere on turn 5 or 6. It's fun as hell to play, especially if you like the type of deck to make spectacular over the top plays.
Yeah man it adds up but it's also an investment in a hobby. If you can't take care of cardboard cards don't spend the money on pricey items. There are cheep or fake playable alternatives. Shit get creative make a proxy with personal art so its sentimental. As long as you're not participating in any serious tournament fake cards are okay. Anyone who says otherwise doesn't know what the word privilege means.
I just built Riku and I just want to say bounce spells are great. You can save Biovisionary from removal, copy it to set an opponent back and then you can recast (and re-copy) Biovisionary! It gives amazing value to any etb creatures.
Jumbo Commander I'm running void snare (catches any non land permanent for U) Silent Departure (I'm using the graveyard a bunch so the flashback is extra relevant) and Voyage's End. I just had to sell a bunch of stuff and decided to start building from the ashes of The Mimeoplasm. I'm running a big suite of cards like taigam's schemeing and commune w/ nature/ the gods etc. And I'm planning on getting all the good green spells the get stuff back from the yard.
Thanks for the comment. I'm glad you liked the Riku video, he's honestly so much fun. I feel like making videos about stupid magic combos is my calling.
Building Riku is difficult based on how he is so good at being creature heavy or spell heavy. Focusing on a main win condition in the deck is difficult because he synergizes so well with literally most cards ever printed. Making copies for 2 extra man is pretty intense and I liked your list. My list also runs a ton of combo pieces, but not Biovisionary clones. My combos revolve more around Banefire/Comet Storm, Deadeye Navigator shenanigans, and drawing out my library. But here is the thing, I hate tutors. They are incredibly powerful and definitely get your pieces to the board quickly, but it isn't very fun to me when I tutor for my win condition, so I enjoy convoluted amounts of draw power to find combos instead! It's a little bit slower, but it makes me so happy to move into combat to swing a bunch and then play a card like Knollspine Dragon or Life's Legacy with Xenagos or an instant buff spell so I can really dig into my library for 10 to 50 cards at a time depending on how powerful my creatures are. Combos win, but tutors enable them to be oppressive in my playgroups. So it is way more fun to have visible value on the board that I can take advantage of during a game!
Thanks! I imagine you have all the sweet Temur cards but I think the real question of Riku players is are you playing Palinchron? I have been getting a lot of hate for him recently.
I'm aware this deck tech is now over a year old but no avenger of zendikar? I have my own riku deck that wins a lot using Avenger and Hornet Queen and copying them a lot. It's nice when your 0/1 plants suddenly become 4/5 off of one land
What do you think about the addition of Cloudstone Curio? When the copy (of Biovisionary or whatever creature) enters the battlefield, you return the original to your hand and just cast him again, with a copy...rinse and repeat, right?
I run strionic resonator in mine. etc and Riku's abilities are all triggered. my opponent tends to not like me with a small army of Deus of Calamities running for his face. it has a tap ability but when you are running clone creatures just one is enough to get you extra mana, cards etc.
"small army of Deus of Calamities" Hahahaha BRUTAL. I felt like riku alone taxed my mana a lot but then again I'm really trying to win through a silly combo :)
This doesn't work, as the copies are not cast, and he casted Progenitor Mimic and not Ulamog. Ulamog requires that you cast him to get the exile trigger.
+Aksel Hansen I think this deck can still be really good without them. Clones and value creatures are cheap and a card lime archeomancer could be even better than snapcaster in this deck.
One time I hit dragonstorm with unexpected results and my opponents got salty af Btw you forgot a nice infinite combo. If you copy dragonstorm then you can bring out Bogardan hellkite and worldgorger dragon. You then copy the worldgorger dragon and your two copies flicker in and out with your hellkite dealing infinite damage. It costs 13 but it’s only a two card combo including riku.

Such an old school video! Love it and loved your time on the command zone! I just built Riku and a lot of it from the video! Keep kickin ass!

I would love to see you build around omnath, locus of rage.

You gotta love the Biovisionary win. So much more satisfying than Twin Combo.
I really love your videos and your decks, but man when I look at the deck list and see $1,500 it takes a lot of the sheen off.
I thought the same, so I took inspiration from this and brewed my own!

i know I am kinda off topic but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released movies online?
@Jagger Immanuel Try FlixZone. Just google for it =)
@Omari Alden yup, I've been using flixzone for years myself =)

Also - recursion. Green has excellent tools for returning cards from the yard.
Great idea! What do you like to use? Capsize would be a classic since it's also an outlet for infinite mana. Crystal shard could also be pretty sweet.

Love your videos man, keep up the good work!

Awesome. Any updates for the new magecraft mechanic?

So cool, I like your vids very much, clear and good explanations. Riku will be on my hotlist;)
Great video. Would love to see a tasigur deck tech
i am in the process of making an energy edh deck with riku and this was quiet helpful gotta infinite reflections a aetherwind basker for all the lol's
+BlackRider Bob awesome! I wish many more energy cards in Aether Revolt. It looks good for you so far.
What about dual Caster mage with twin flame and goblin bombardment for infinite damage
Hey just found you on TH-cam and am loving the videos. Riki is my bae and your video really gave me some interesting ideas. Thx
Thanks! I imagine you have all the sweet Temur cards but I think the real question of Riku players is are you playing Palinchron? I have been getting a lot of hate for him recently.

Wait, how does coping 'Ponder' let you look at more than the two three cards?
I run strionic resonator in mine. etc and Riku's abilities are all triggered. my opponent tends to not like me with a small army of Deus of Calamities running for his face. it has a tap ability but when you are running clone creatures just one is enough to get you extra mana, cards etc.

Did you ever do a lands deck with him. I'm thinking of taking him in this direction. Seems like a natural fit, right?
I always thought that farseek gets you anything! What have I done?!
I'm not sure if this intentional or just your style or character, but the way you emphasize things sounds slightly off.
I see a lot of ramp
Do you have a lot of card draw?
What would you take out if say, I wanted to build this with Rhystic study & sylvan library?
I'd say that those are solid cards ... but I love to copy spells ... so much
haha right. saw TCZ episode where they say no one can claim your deck is overpowered if its a copy deck haha!
Bio visionary + rite of replication = win
I played a game the other day where someone progenitor mimicked my ulamog the ceaseless hunger to exile it
I love simic lol
This doesn't work, as the copies are not cast, and he casted Progenitor Mimic and not Ulamog. Ulamog requires that you cast him to get the exile trigger.
primal vigor is a nuther kinda dub season
what would u replace some of the most expensive cards with?
i dont really have the money for snapcaster level cards :)
+Aksel Hansen I think this deck can still be really good without them. Clones and value creatures are cheap and a card lime archeomancer could be even better than snapcaster in this deck.
I play extra turns instead in this deck. Double my turns :D
But can you copy Riku?
I like my playgroups creatures.
lets copy them!! :D
Time to build.
the whiteness at 1:30 i am now blind
One time I hit dragonstorm with unexpected results and my opponents got salty af

When a copy flickers out it doesn't come back
The quietest video I've ever heard
sakashima the impostor clone deck? ^^
Sakashima keeps her name so she doesn't work with Biovisionary ... but Sakashima is super awesome she needs her own deck devoted to her.
I mostly ment if you would make a video with Sakashima the imposter as commander :D
I have a clone deck myself, just so I can play Mirror Gallery ^^
PROTEAN HULK!
"it can rankle little people"? Who told you it was okay for you to be so randomly, insultingly, pretentious?
