I wanted to clarify something here. I was explaining to a friend how great pump effects like Craterhoof Behemoth and Triumph of the Hordes were. I said that in the video but I didn't explain why they are even better in this deck -- deathtouch snakes. When assigning damage to creatures you only have to assign lethal damage before you can begin trampling over onto the player. A creature with deathtouch can start trampling over after assigning one point of damage. This makes blocking your pumped deathtouching snakes really difficult. Thanks for letting me explain a little more.
This is legit, you need to deal lethal damage to a creature to be able to have the remaining damage carry on to the player, with deathtouch active you only need to deal 1 damage to a creature for it to be lethal damage letting you carry the rest of the damage onto the player. Sounds broken, but those are the rules.
Great deck as usual, but I was just thinking, you should do a live stream of you building a deck from scratch and planning it all out so that we could see your thought process. Just an idea, but that would be cool.
Jumbo Commander I would honestly watch that because I personally love building my decks more than actually playing them xd for example I made my mizzix combo deck slowly and methodically and had a lot of fun playtesting but rarely pull it out mostly because it's unfun for other people to watch me play solitaire ;-;
Hapatra was the Very first commander deck i built myself around 3 years ago. Had it for a little while Before disassembeling it, like 5-6months, and now i'm starting trading back into the deck. I loved the deck back then, and now that i've become a way Better deck builder and player, and have kind of figured out what kind of player i am, I'm ready and excited to get back to my first true edh love! 😊 your channel is usually my first stop while scrolling around edhrec when i need inspirration for a New deck, so thanks a lot for the amazing vids, DJ 😁👍 I feel like the deck has gotten so many damn cool tools since i played it last, a Lot of synergy that wasn't really meant for it. I will be putting in the small infect package, didnt really have that in my first deck, except for plauge myr. That little dude did so much work, helping me with my mana and people were afraid of him! He usually made me 3+ Mana a game before turning into a Snake, and kept people from attacking me bc of that Beautiful liitle word; "infect". So in my next edition i will put in a small but usefull package. The card must either have a reason to be in the deck besides infect, like tapping for mana, card draw, destroying artifact/enchantment ect, or be a reuseable effect like grafted exoskeleton, glistening oil, or simply just a wincon like triumph of the horde or schytherix 😁 Also, i will be including a significant planeswalker package to help me control and stay in the game, along with the -1/-1 counter + prolifirate strat. All of this works together and takes a Lot of card slots, so the deck will also have the "restriction" of having to play as few "good stuff cards" as possible, and make it as on-theme as possible 😁 Cant wait to put hapatra back in the commandzone again! 😁👍
I've watched almost every video on TH-cam about Hapatra. I freaking love this card. Wither/Persist is amazing. I love it and I"m glad to see it return. Great video. Love this set!
Nest of scarabs makes 1/1 black insects per -1/-1 counter. Those creatures then get wither... deadly. I've only been using the scarabs as mana dorks with cryptolith rite. Thanks man the deck tech helps
Honestly, Hapatra might be my new favorite commander! When I saw Hapatra I knew that I wanted to build a Hapatra deck. The deck looks so fun, and like you said there are many different directions that you can have the deck go in! I love commanders like that!
This will be the first commander deck i build. I started playing magic in Amonkhet and fell in love with Hapatra. Never made her work in standard but i think she can find a home here. Thanks for this Jumbo Commander!
First time watcher. Love Hapatra as a commander. Loved the video and your list. Really pushed me to make a few changes to my own list to move it towards control a little more. Thanks alot of the inspiration.
Any deck that has a lot of deathtouch in it can benefit greatly from the inclusion of Thornbite Staff. It turns your sneks into machine guns! :D It's one of my favorite "boardwipes", just after Vish Kal + Horobi, Death's Wail. PS: also fun in Atraxa
man jumbo you made me want too make this deck even more!! everything you showed is everything i've been looking at for the deck and it just seems like a amazing deck!
I have a player running Hope in my meta. It is actually pretty decent against some decks. He shut out the storm deck the other day with Nim Deathmantle and a Hope sac each turn. It isn't as good as Kozi decks (imo), but it is very fun to play against.
Oh hey, I do that too...During Gatecrash it was Aurelia, and Fate Reforged Dhagatar, The Adamant, and Conspiracy 2....the Dreadful one...Leovold, hell I did one for Yahenni and For crying out loud Padeem...each time I get an idea, I just build it...it may seem janky but its a working deck...
This is really a good hapatra deck, talking about -1/-1 counters, infect and wither PLUS adding that beautiful blight dragon it sa gooda like pasta linguini
I would like to point out a synergy that benefits your deck. If a board wipe hits a bunch of your snakes and you have hapatra on the board as well as cauldron of souls, you can give your snakes persist and though they will die, you will generate a bunch of -1/-1 counters and even more snakes
I homebrewed a Hapatra deck, and was searching for inspiration and ideas to blend into it. I am so glad to see others are seeing that others are going for it. Also thanks for the infect,/proliferate tips. Also you did not mention Nest of Scarabs until about 15:00 minutes in dude... I would have mentioned that much earlier, especially since this deck literally feeds of creating 1/1 creatures. Scarabs don't have deathtouch, but great blockers or for picking off someone who is also building myrs, or flying locusts from Locust God, just to push them into blocking to avoid damage en masse. I was gonna mention Nest Of Scarabs to you if you didnt include it. But man when it comes out, my friends start panicking especially because it runs slightly better than Hapatra's effect. The big difference is Hapatra makes A 1/1 SNAKE every time you put 1 -1/-1 COUNTER OR MORE ON A CREATURE. You do get more IF it was put on MORE THAN ONE CREATURE, but you could put 3 -1/-1 counters on a single creature and only get 1 snake. However, Nest of Scarabs makes a Scarab for EVERY -1/-1 COUNTER YOU PLACE ON A CREATURE AND EVERY CREATURE. So even if there was just one opponent or one creature that you somehow gave 2, 3, or 5 -1/-1 counters..... you would get a scarab for every freaking single -1/-1 counter you just placed on it. builds much faster than Hapatra but still supports her too.
Hey Jumbo! Loved this vid seeming that I also play Hapatra! Here are a few cards that I think you should look at that I did not see in your vid. Sorry if others have already suggested these: Vhati il-Dal Power Conduit Thornbite Staff Hex Parasite Sudden Spoiling ...These are just a few that I feel help the control aspect of this deck! Hope you find this useful! Thanks doe the great content!
As always, love your deck techs. I tried a build around discard hoping to use Archfiend of Ifnir, but I found the payoff cards like mergin, etc. don't have a big enough effect to warrent a build around. I also don't think you really need +1/+1 effects that much. I see you're a big fan of proliferate. I guess this decks naturally starts leaning to infect. I like that as an alternate wincon.
I building this, as a mixture of sneks matter and -1/-1 counter synergies. One thing im supprised you missed on this was all of the Scarecrows from Shadowmoore and Eventide that gain wither or already have wither along with Blightsickle that is wither on a stick allowing you to run sneks alongside for better synergies. maybe im looking to far into but i think its a fine idea to keep the sneks rolling out.
I see you discussing some cards that put -1/-1 counters on your creatures too. Would Melira be a good creature to put in your deck then? Yup, just saw her in the video. Get some tutors in there and we're good to go to find her
Surely adding in a darkest hour so that you can combo your snakes with Corrosive Mentor would be worth it? Plus turning all your green creatures into black ones too.
I'm not sure if i want a hapatra deck, but some suggestions, especially the ones about infect and proliferate seems really good for a Mazirek deck that i'm thinking about.
Naga Shaman!?!?!?! and undead naga for the black version. There should be a commander that pumps BOTH naga and snakes or something like that so we can bring the tribe together again.
I know she is not a snake, but she's kinda. but yeah it would be nice to have some support for both of the tribes, i mean werewolfs and wolves are treated almost as the same in Innistrad, why not nagas and snakes?
To sinergize with Archfiend of Ifnir I would play the cycling lands and a life from the loam, which is also a card advantage engine in on itself. Also don't forget skull clamp to trade sneks for two cards.
Also there is no reason not to include Decree of Pain, Undead Gladiator (he's an engine for the Archiend all by himself), Krosan Tusker, and maybe even Street Wraith, in addition to the lands. Nostalgic Dreams should do wonders as well, exchanging a pile of cards between your hand and graveyard while drowning everything in -1/-1 counters :D Even if it gets countered, you will at least get the boardwipe, though it would be a rather costly one. Phyrexian Reclamation is also a nice way to cycle between grave and hand for value. If you run all the cycling lands and and all the cards above, you will have a very potent archiend.
If there's one card that's woefully underplayed in Hapatra decks, it's Rishkar, Peema Renegade. His second line of text turns any creature you have with a -1/-1 counter on it into a mana dork.
isn't soul snuffers be a very good card in the deck, because hapatra's second ability will trigger even if your snakes die, because the snake will get a counter, and as soon as the counter is on the snake hapaatra's ability triggers , so your 1/1 snake will just spawn a new snake with hapatra on the battlefield, so you wont even lose any snakes. If i misunderstood the ability please tell me
hello jumbo commander I think other people have said this before but if you have a darkest hour in play all creatures become black. so it can make the snake tokens into deathtouch wither
nooooooo, I'll fix it ... tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hapatra-poisons-everyone/ I didn't fix the slug and I kept it private so that was a double mistake. It's better now.
I think Temmet as an azorius TOKEN commander is way more interesting! :D Making token copies of creatures, populating them and making one unblockable sounds super fun and fresh in UW. Additionaly there are fun shenanigans with with Batterskull (the Germ token becomes unblockable) and if you go full crazy, have a Dark Depths/Thespian Stage package. So much room for brews! But still nice deck-tech, as always =)
Something I've noticed about a lot of deck techs that have to do with token generation they always mention Cryptolithic Rite, but never Springleaf Drum. Why is that?
lol sir your the best whenever I want to build a commander you come in do a deck tech for them lol tho I'm planning go more infectious. Can do marath when you get the chance I'd like you take on him
If you have Hapatra + Blood Artist + Blowfly Infestation out and you kill a creature with a -1-1 counter would that be an infinite combo kill? Since placing the -1-1 counter on a 1/1 you get a snake the 1/1 dies, you move the -1-1 to the snake, get another snake, 1st snake dies move -1-1 to 2nd snake and you repeat while Blood artist drains?
dont really need cycling when I plag EDH as one of my enemies plays red and black, always makes you discard cards. He normally plays cards that let him discard and draw xxxx more. He also plays Locust god and trys to draw cards to max out locusts. So my Archfiend of Ifnir makes him hesitate on that, or gives me more time to try mass removal, or get rid of his Locust god
Black Sun's zentih would equal one snake, right? Hapatra reads" one or more" so you wouldnt get a snake for every counter?? Im liking the deck. I opened a Hapatra at pre-release and I immediately started thinking about brewing a commander deck. Thanks man.
You can get more than one snake from Black Sun's Zenith. The wording is confusing which is why Wizards put a ruling on Gatherer about it: "If you put any number of -1/-1 counters on more than one creature at once, Hapatra’s last ability triggers once for each of those creatures." Grats on opening her in limited (She looks really fun to draft around). I hope the brewing goes welll. Cheers
As a snake tribal which is better? Hapatra or Kaseto? Just curious cause they both seem a lot of fun. Im not much of a green player but this deck and kaseto kinda speaks to me
It seems this should all be part of Atraxa. Of course, there are shortcomings like hapatra not going to a command zone, but there’s recursion for that.
Atraxa for the white and blue. Rhystic Study, Authority of the Consuls, Cathar’s Crusade, etc. tutor for the parts to get snakes or get hapatra through fixing or draw
You forgot about Zuluport cutthroat and blood artist! Both use the infinite snake death with blowfly infestation and Hapatra to kill all your opponents
Are you sure Carnifex demon triggers Hapatra when he enters? I don't think it would being that the demon enters WITH the counters, but i could be wrong.
I have a few other new commanders that are further along than Kefnet. I'm having a hard time making a unique deck that isn't just a worse Azami, Lady of Scrolls deck. Anyone know an interesting angle?
I was thinking using a board lock strategy using cards like coastal breach, crush of tentacles, and evacuation. Win conditions mainly consist of aetherflux reservoir and ivory tower, venser's journal and alhammarets archive. draw spells, mana rocks and cantrips to dig for pieces. Other effects include drawing deck and winning with lab maniac or (My favorite) use jace's archivist or windfall with 80ish cards in hand and tomorrow, azami's familiar on board. Tomorrow replaces each your draws by looking at top 3 cards of library and choosing one. So if you ever go down to 2 or less cards in deck your draw fizzles. Your opponents deck out, and you win. It's a gimmick deck, but it's what I've come up with so far.
It's a cool gimmick. There are a few other fun interesting blue synergies that could work. I forgot that with infinite blue mana this is better than Azami. Maybe I should have that as a feature as well. Great place to start brewing. Thanks
Darkest Hour would solve the nonblack creature problem. I'm hoping we get a Jund commander soon that would work well with Hapatra, I want one to use her with Soul-Scar Mage.
You keep worrying about losing the sneks, but if you put a neg one neg one counter on it you've effectively just given a snake summoning sickness again, considering you'll just be immediately replacing it
It would feel weird to not include Pharika, God of Afflictions in this deck, even though she doesn't really have much synergy. But come on ;) Also, Gorgon subtheme! Pernicious Deed also feels very on-theme, even though it will always kill your tokens :(.
You are correct. It won't protect 100% of your board but it could prevent a costly recasting of your Hapatra or let you keep around a few other key creatures.
My one complaint about this deck tech is that you don't touch on the various combos inherent in the deck. With Hapatra,Nest of Scarabs, or Flourishing Defenses, and Blowfly Infestation you have an engine that can infinitely create a creature, kill a creature, and put a -1/-1 counter on a creature. Throw a Butcher of Malakir in there and you can force your opponents to sacrifice all their creatures. Newer cards like Obelisk Spider or Poison-Tip Archer outright win you the game. You're also running Mikaeus and proliferate, so why not bring his friend Triskelion? And you didn't even mention that Devoted Druid and Quillspike go infinite. Add Hapatra to those two for infinite snakes as well.
Jumbo Commander no problem dude, Damia Sage of stone is one of the STRONGEST BUG commanders out there, and yet she doesn't have a single signature card listed on edhrec surprisingly, Combo her with Teferi's Puzzle box and watch your opponents cry in jealousy that YOU don't have to cycle your hand away due to Puzzle Box
I think Vizier of the Menagerie is a solid creature for card advantage. You have to ask yourself:"How many cards do I have to play off of the top of my deck to make this card what I really want?" I would say I'd need to play two creatures off of the top to be happy. Then I would imagine if that would be likely to happen in my meta. I would run this in some of my decks where I expect to have my creatures stick around but I don't think I'd get more card advantage than a harmonize in my meta. I am excited to use him in my dragon tribal deck which I usually bring out for a more fun game and has intense mana requirements.
I left her out of my list. Do you think I made a bad decision? It's great with everything that has persist but then we get less snake triggers, great with the cards that put the counters everywhere like Black Sun's Zeneth but then I can't use wickerbow elder .... I don't know. But really interesting decision.
Shes probably a card you wont play every game but she can be quiet strong when you have enough snakes already and she allows you to board wipe with black sun or carnifex demon with no downside. On a side note i have built my hapatra deck in preparation for hapatra it's a hybrid -1 counters and snake tribal deck, of the few cards not mentioned that id recommend for -1 counters serrated biskelion and lockjaw snapper, if your going snake tribal metallic mimic and snake pit (love that card), and for keeping your snakes alive ivy lane denizen and oran-rief the vastwood
I think that in green black and only being 2 Mana she could be tutored up whenever you need her. plus with a sac outlet the persist creatures like Woodfall Primus or Aerie Ouphes can provide their own board wipes for that pesky breya player with all their flying thoptors or the atraxa player who's about to swing in with a 21/21 atraxa and a 40/40 ishai. yeah you no longer will be able to give your own creatures -1/-1 counters but with such a cheap Mana cost and being in the 2 best colors to tutor you can spend the large portion of the game controlling and building your snake army. Drop Melira and and a Black Sun Zenith. Worst case scenario someone has to use their removal on a 2 Mana 2/2. I think she's really valuable but it probably depends on your meta. overall a pretty dope list.
its a trigger per counter/counters per creature, so if you have 5 creatures get hit each with a -1/-1 counter you get 5 snake tokens as long as its YOU being the one placing the counters
Nicholas Haile it says whenever you put one or more -1/-1 counters. So everytime you put counters out you get a snake. Her first ability is only once but if you have cards that put those counters out her second ability works. It doesnt say she has to put them out
*Best combo I had was Harbinger of Night: Steely Resolve: Crumbling Ashes. Once you have those cards, just put Hapatra in play and win the game... obviously you want some "destroy enchantments" in there to take care of any hexproof or other shroud resources your opponents might have... basically win-win.*
Wait are you serious?
Are you sure?
why wouldn't the deathtouch snake have to get past the toughness of the blocking creature to trample over? o.O
This is legit, you need to deal lethal damage to a creature to be able to have the remaining damage carry on to the player, with deathtouch active you only need to deal 1 damage to a creature for it to be lethal damage letting you carry the rest of the damage onto the player. Jumbo Commander oh my god this is evillll
I was today years old when I learned this OMG
Yessssssssssssssssssss
Great deck as usual, but I was just thinking, you should do a live stream of you building a deck from scratch and planning it all out so that we could see your thought process. Just an idea, but that would be cool.
If it's something people would like; I'd love to do it.
That's a great idea.
It would help out new EDH players and also just be entertaining to I think.

Why dont you mention Skullclamp for carddraw? Clamp a snake and get two cards. Better than most carddraw spells for this deck.
Because it's not interesting, everyone knows about skull clamp
Honestly, Hapatra might be my new favorite commander! When I saw Hapatra I knew that I wanted to build a Hapatra deck. The deck looks so fun, and like you said there are many different directions that you can have the deck go in! I love commanders like that!

ooo, nice deck!
I didn't realise how gory the art on nest of scarabs was until now lol
First time watcher. Love Hapatra as a commander. Loved the video and your list. Really pushed me to make a few changes to my own list to move it towards control a little more. Thanks alot of the inspiration.
Any deck that has a lot of deathtouch in it can benefit greatly from the inclusion of Thornbite Staff.
It turns your sneks into machine guns! :D
It's one of my favorite "boardwipes", just after Vish Kal + Horobi, Death's Wail.
PS: also fun in Atraxa
man jumbo you made me want too make this deck even more!! everything you showed is everything i've been looking at for the deck and it just seems like a amazing deck!
I love this deck. Almost every video you post makes me want to build that deck.
excellent deck tech i was thinking of using this commander for my nephew great job
I really like the legends from this set, can't wait to see some cool commander decks!
I have to say that I'm glad you and I have some interesting disagreements on whether certain cards or not fit.
I play a game where I build an EDH deck around the first commander I pull from any set.
ScrapperTBP oh that's a good idea I personally just pick from each block but it's usually the first I pull too lol
Ever get a dud? Hope of Ghirapur was my first legendary from the last set : / I hope you only pull awesome legendaries!
Jumbo Commander I did it for conspiracy 2 and got selvala but then stopped because of funds. only just starting again
I have a player running Hope in my meta. It is actually pretty decent against some decks. He shut out the storm deck the other day with Nim Deathmantle and a Hope sac each turn. It isn't as good as Kozi decks (imo), but it is very fun to play against.

This is really a good hapatra deck, talking about -1/-1 counters, infect and wither PLUS adding that beautiful blight dragon it sa gooda like pasta linguini
Another great video. You really have the best deck tech vids in the game.
I'm actually building a commander deck that's Jund but focuses on Hipatra and the Scorpion God, thanks to this as a great template
Hapatra is a great commander! Good tech
If hapatra made green+black snakes she would be literally insane! She's still awesome, but imagine the savra synergy she could have had
I would like to point out a synergy that benefits your deck. If a board wipe hits a bunch of your snakes and you have hapatra on the board as well as cauldron of souls, you can give your snakes persist and though they will die, you will generate a bunch of -1/-1 counters and even more snakes
Quillspike + Devoted Druid + Hapatra = Infinite snakes and an infinite/infinite Quillspike
To those who think this is an infinite mana combo as well, its not...UNLESS you add in mana reflection or Joraga tree-speaker fully leveled
Add in an Obelisk Spider for some infinite damage and life gain to go with your infinite snakes
Vhati il-Dal
Power Conduit
Thornbite Staff
Hex Parasite
Sudden Spoiling
...These are just a few that I feel help the control aspect of this deck! Hope you find this useful! Thanks doe the great content!
brilliant, was hoping you'd do hapatra!
I didn't see anyone commenting the infinite death triggers with blowfly infestation.

isn't soul snuffers be a very good card in the deck, because hapatra's second ability will trigger even if your snakes die, because the snake will get a counter, and as soon as the counter is on the snake hapaatra's ability triggers , so your 1/1 snake will just spawn a new snake with hapatra on the battlefield, so you wont even lose any snakes. If i misunderstood the ability please tell me
hello jumbo commander I think other people have said this before but if you have a darkest hour in play all creatures become black. so it can make the snake tokens into deathtouch wither
Yagmoth and Flynn the fangbearer your welcome lol😅
Jumbo, the link to your tapped out deck list doesn't work.
nooooooo, I'll fix it ... tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hapatra-poisons-everyone/
I didn't fix the slug and I kept it private so that was a double mistake. It's better now.
Thanks man! Huge fan of your work please keep it up!!!
Decimator Beetle should be in here too, it's a semi beater that makes a -1/-1 counter everytime it attacks, and removes counters off your guy
This is an awesome commander. I just hope I don't go up against any infect variants of it. Proliferate would be super cool though.
what about parallel lives to double all of your sneks, I was surprised to not see it in the deck list?
I think Temmet as an azorius TOKEN commander is way more interesting! :D Making token copies of creatures, populating them and making one unblockable sounds super fun and fresh in UW. Additionaly there are fun shenanigans with with Batterskull (the Germ token becomes unblockable) and if you go full crazy, have a Dark Depths/Thespian Stage package. So much room for brews! But still nice deck-tech, as always =)
The video for Temmet is already done, I hope you like my take :)
Something I've noticed about a lot of deck techs that have to do with token generation they always mention Cryptolithic Rite, but never Springleaf Drum. Why is that?
There is a infinite mana combo with channeler initiate and devoted druid in graveyard, and necrotic ooze in battlefield.
lol sir your the best whenever I want to build a commander you come in do a deck tech for them lol tho I'm planning go more infectious. Can do marath when you get the chance I'd like you take on him
If you have Hapatra + Blood Artist + Blowfly Infestation out and you kill a creature with a -1-1 counter would that be an infinite combo kill? Since placing the -1-1 counter on a 1/1 you get a snake the 1/1 dies, you move the -1-1 to the snake, get another snake, 1st snake dies move -1-1 to 2nd snake and you repeat while Blood artist drains?
hmm i really like this, however it's sad that we can't include either kulrath knight, moselhoarder or scarscale ritual
dont really need cycling when I plag EDH as one of my enemies plays red and black, always makes you discard cards. He normally plays cards that let him discard and draw xxxx more. He also plays Locust god and trys to draw cards to max out locusts. So my Archfiend of Ifnir makes him hesitate on that, or gives me more time to try mass removal, or get rid of his Locust god
you could play darkest hour for corrosive mentor
What about Yawgmoth, Thran Physician?
Black Sun's zentih would equal one snake, right? Hapatra reads" one or more" so you wouldnt get a snake for every counter?? Im liking the deck. I opened a Hapatra at pre-release and I immediately started thinking about brewing a commander deck. Thanks man.
You can get more than one snake from Black Sun's Zenith. The wording is confusing which is why Wizards put a ruling on Gatherer about it: "If you put any number of -1/-1 counters on more than one creature at once, Hapatra’s last ability triggers once for each of those creatures."
Grats on opening her in limited (She looks really fun to draft around). I hope the brewing goes welll. Cheers
Sweet, she just got a hell of a lot better now that I RTFC :) Thanks for the video. SSSsssssnakes....
The idea I had would be to add Kamahl, Fist of Krosa. He's pricey but he offers you repeatable land destruction and Overrun to finish things off.
He's also good board wipe insurance because you can threaten to turn your opponents' lands into creatures for G. Good call'
Can you make a commander deck for neheb the worthy please :)
I started a Minotaur tribal deck with SO MUCH ENTHUSIASM but it's a really shallow tribe. I'm still brainstorming.
Jumbo Commander Neheb is perfect for madness and hellbent...just saying
What about that Enchantment that allows your creatures to tap for a mana
As a snake tribal which is better? Hapatra or Kaseto? Just curious cause they both seem a lot of fun. Im not much of a green player but this deck and kaseto kinda speaks to me
I run both and Kaseto is the better tribal commander, but is weaker too. And a little boring in my case.
if you were to kill a snake token with a -1/-1 counter, doesn't that produce a new snake?
It seems this should all be part of Atraxa. Of course, there are shortcomings like hapatra not going to a command zone, but there’s recursion for that.
Atraxa for the white and blue. Rhystic Study, Authority of the Consuls, Cathar’s Crusade, etc. tutor for the parts to get snakes or get hapatra through fixing or draw
You forgot about Zuluport cutthroat and blood artist! Both use the infinite snake death with blowfly infestation and Hapatra to kill all your opponents
the second I saw this card I knew I had to build the deck
It's got some power and flexibility which makes for really great commanders.
Are you sure Carnifex demon triggers Hapatra when he enters? I don't think it would being that the demon enters WITH the counters, but i could be wrong.
ETBs also work since it still counts as you putting the counters on the creature
Kiefer Baker well than.. That's pretty kewl xD
Don't forget about Orc Sureshot.
is it possible for you to make a kefnet deck? I'd really love to see what you do with it.
Thanks
Glad to help. I love your videos, I can't wait to see what you brew next
Darkest Hour would solve the nonblack creature problem. I'm hoping we get a Jund commander soon that would work well with Hapatra, I want one to use her with Soul-Scar Mage.
I dont think persist and hapatra would work because persist they cime back with the counters. The dont get put on necessarily.
If you wanted black snake tokens, just put in darkest hour, also cauldron of souls is hilarious in this deck with a sac outlet
Love the deck! You should check out Samut, Voice of Dissent next!
I'll make one for sure. I really like how Naya makes aggro decks more tolerable.
There aren't any sultai snake commanders, but there is a Legendary Naga Wizard!
You could run darkest hour for Corrosive mentor
You keep worrying about losing the sneks, but if you put a neg one neg one counter on it you've effectively just given a snake summoning sickness again, considering you'll just be immediately replacing it
So, how about Thief of Blood as a finisher?
This is a great idea for a finisher. I really like this idea especially in a world filled with Atraxas.
tapped out link isn't working my dude.
blowfly infestation with hapatra and it that betrays along with butcher of malakir you can take over an entire opponents field
By playing falkenrath noble or zulaport cutthroat, you can have an infinite combo to kill everyone with blowfly infestation and hapatra.
It would feel weird to not include Pharika, God of Afflictions in this deck, even though she doesn't really have much synergy.
But come on ;)
Also, Gorgon subtheme!
Pernicious Deed also feels very on-theme, even though it will always kill your tokens :(.
yo the wallpaper?????!
Why does no one talk about the infinite combo with hapatra and blowfly?
Dreary Horizons
Infinite killing your own snakes doesn't do anything by itself.
Colin Urban but add, say, a blood artist, or a parallel lives...
I'm confused how Cauldron of Souls is good in deck where most things will already have -1/-1 counters on them at death...
You are correct. It won't protect 100% of your board but it could prevent a costly recasting of your Hapatra or let you keep around a few other key creatures.
Mikaeus, the unhollowed would be bullshit crazy with Hapatra though
Add Hapatra to those two for infinite snakes as well.
as for Sultai colors....why not play Damia, sage of stone? Gorgons are technically part snakes
That sounds right! I need a vorthos ruling! Gorgons have to be thematically snake-ish. I'm actually going to build this. Thank you!
Jumbo Commander no problem dude, Damia Sage of stone is one of the STRONGEST BUG commanders out there, and yet she doesn't have a single signature card listed on edhrec surprisingly, Combo her with Teferi's Puzzle box and watch your opponents cry in jealousy that YOU don't have to cycle your hand away due to Puzzle Box
would vizier of the menagerie be a bad include in this deck?
I think Vizier of the Menagerie is a solid creature for card advantage. You have to ask yourself:"How many cards do I have to play off of the top of my deck to make this card what I really want?" I would say I'd need to play two creatures off of the top to be happy. Then I would imagine if that would be likely to happen in my meta. I would run this in some of my decks where I expect to have my creatures stick around but I don't think I'd get more card advantage than a harmonize in my meta. I am excited to use him in my dragon tribal deck which I usually bring out for a more fun game and has intense mana requirements.
tappedout.net/mtg-decks/hepatra-deck-tech/ Here is a list of Hapatra deck tech and synergy cards :)
Snakes. It had to be snakes.
I mean you have the Naga, which are snake people and they are Sultai, and also you have the God that makes sneks
my favorite way to finish the game with hapatra is converting my 1/1 snakes, elves or insects into 6/6 essence of the wilds! hahahaha
I love this deck!
maybe you should try
Heartmender
In a G/B deck??
The deck needs Melira, Slyvok Outcast. Then you can run all those -1/-1 counter cards.
I think she's really valuable but it probably depends on your meta. overall a pretty dope list.
play corrosive mentor with the encgantment that makes all creatures you control black :)
archfiend of ifnir is wheel insurance
You sir just event a sub haha.Great video.
So sad that you only get one snake per trigger. She would be amazing if she triggered multiple times for each counter placed.
its a trigger per counter/counters per creature, so if you have 5 creatures get hit each with a -1/-1 counter you get 5 snake tokens as long as its YOU being the one placing the counters
Nicholas Haile it says whenever you put one or more -1/-1 counters. So everytime you put counters out you get a snake. Her first ability is only once but if you have cards that put those counters out her second ability works. It doesnt say she has to put them out
this deck needs Sadistic Glee
*Best combo I had was Harbinger of Night: Steely Resolve: Crumbling Ashes. Once you have those cards, just put Hapatra in play and win the game... obviously you want some "destroy enchantments" in there to take care of any hexproof or other shroud resources your opponents might have... basically win-win.*
Very nice
Skull clamp + Blood Artist and friends 💩
What about WINDING CONSTRICTOR!??
kills your own stuff immediately ... :(
Only increases counters on your stuff. That's quite a non-bo.
subsrcibed!
Thanks!
