4:48 Interesting fact: the "blind poet" is John Milton, and that quote ("Long is the way and hard, that out of Hell leads up to Light") is from his epic poem Paradise Lost (it consists of ten books, and it's considered Milton's masterpiece). In that part of the poem (Book 2), Satan addresses the devils as to what they should do after being defeated and cast from Heaven into Hell. They end up following Beelzebub's plan (to take revenge on Heaven by corrupting God's new creation: humankind), and so Satan begins his journey up from Hell.
Love a fellow researcher/literature nerd. Thank you for sharing the details! I haven’t read Paradise Lost in so long-I would have missed the reference altogether.
whenever I see characters wading though blood pools and/or mounds of rotting courses, all I can think of is how they just caught every blood-born disease known to mankind in 30 seconds flat and infected every single scrape and cut they had. (but for the horror aesthetic? love it)

1:18 "You got that through his vest?" Kevlar isn't actually stab-proof. The developers confirmed before the game was released that the monsters are real. So don’t worry about a twist at the end where “it was all in your head the whole time”. The twist is about the origin of the monsters and also how the 1947 expedition went down. Which is why you should try and get all the diary pages if you play this game, it enhances the story

It depends on the type of armor! The soft body armor commonly worn by law enforcement, which is generally rated to stop handgun calibers, is often NOT stab proof. However, most service members would wear a ceramic or possibly steel rifle resistant plate. You’d have a hard time stabbing through ceramic, and even harder through steel!

Honestly, I'm perfectly ok with there being scientific explanations for the monsters. It still means the monsters are real and it's not just hallucinations. In fact, as someone who always wants to know how the magic trick is done, I generally prefer a sci-fi explanation over the simpler supernatural in most cases.
Problem with these games is they tilt too much toward science fact (as such) Man of Medan was neither science fiction nor supernatural. They set it up like one and failed to pull off the other... They could have had an AWESOME suspense filled adventure as we see the characters becoming unhinged, just not what they saw. One character, the lead character or something, discovering the truth methodically and all that. Still have high stakes and decision making etc but they payoff with finding out what REALLY caused the ship to vanish etc. Sprinkle a little fiction into the history, which, hell, since its a ghost ship what's to say something like that didn't go down. Or, go full on - you guys disturbed an underwater resting place. Fuck you you're destined for Davy Jones' locker. Having a mundane explanation for supernatural stuff rarely works as a twist. The prelude then timeskip formula isn't doing them any favours. It takes some of the suspense away of what's actually happening too. I mean, it's good for SOME scares but I think putting together all of the past pieces would be better. The original acheological trip we keep getting flashes of would be a better setting for the supernatural. Having it set in modern day makes a good setting for science based things. Like explaining the neurotoxin in a bite etc. Idk, I can appreciate what they're trying to do but its the reason I don't buy them to play them. I'd want to do multiple runs but I can't bring myself to like the characters enough to keep them alive xD But hell, like what you like - genuinely not trying to argue, just, very tired and not sure how anything I just typed came across lol Also- loved the masked magician. If you haven't already seen the Now You See Me films, and The Prestige, I'd definitely check them out, love them both haha
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. - Clarke Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science. - Heterodyne
Haha, indeed. I do like the magic vs science when there's grounds for it, or at least if it's established as such. Not trying to give out spoilers so if you haven't watched the last episode come back later- But the way the aliens have survived and the way they communicate leans HEAVILY into it. The playthrough mentioned an Ark, as if it was an intentional vessel etc Which, frankly I am fine with haha. I can dismiss a LOT of alien technology, not making a ton of sense and being... essentially magic- as their technology and their biology is different etc
to be honest I don't think they're the same plot at all Beware non specific spoilers. It might feel that way because of the execution. First one told us outright it was a mundane reason, and was more character driven. Second one... it would have been a LOT more interesting if they had executed the twist much better. It's admittedly a similar thing of it being mundane, but there's a lot more to the psychology of one person and the shit the mind does... it was just executed poorly. Third one, started off blatantly supernatural then became Sci fi. In the latter two they should have ditched the far past sequences as they added nothing to the plot (for different reasons). They seem to have a formula and then you have three teams fighting for control. But honestly, if the storytelling was less fragmented and clunky I'd buy them myself and play them. They're trying new things each time but they need to ditch the engine theyre using and either focus on the cinematics OR a game. An interactive movie is just fine, a choose your own adventure thing etc. But they seem to just put in too many moving parts at a time and they can't focus enough on the characters in a way to make us care about them - or the other mechanics suffer instead Credit where its due, they're not terrible games. Just a chore to play from the look of it, especially if you want to take them seriously. Just each game in this series has has SO MUCH potential to be so much better and it's such a shame.
Everytime Jack does the weird accent it reminds me of Tossboy from his Animal Crossing letsplay. I really hope he goes back to it for a while when the new DLC and game extension drops

Which is weird because Hell is in Michigan.
@@cctomcat321 eh I respectfully disagree with that statement lol
I love the clicking sounds the bat people make, it's like they're using echolocation to find their victims. It's the little things that count.
There’s actually more to it then that for later! Recommend watching through to the end, really interesting! Brings me Dead Space Flashbacks.
@@richardpaulson6002 Omg I think I got the whole plot now just from you bringing up Dead Space. I won't say though so I don't spoil anything.
My apologies if I have somehow, but, I can at least say it only relates to ONE of the games as opposed to all of them.
Yeah, same here. They remind me of clickers from Last of Us. And I'm pretty sure it is echolocation, because when we get to look through their eyes its all black and white with that almost radar-like pulse
@@richardpaulson6002 Nah you're good. I might be wrong then if it's relating to just one of them instead of all. I'm still excited for the ending regardless.
Jack so uninvested that he really has an easy time killing characters when the prompt appears xD
yeah i see why. he already believes the first 2 games in the series were mediocre at best, so he knew exactly what to expect with this one
It's not hard to be uninvested in such a poorly made game.
i dont blame him, he doesnt like the games and he is barley wants to play it but he wants to finish it, the first two was shit so why care about characters much
@@RealForensicTV honestly, i really liked little hope. Man of medan, not so much. i think these games are hit or miss, but i like the overall stories. I wouldn’t say they’re shit, but would make good stories. games? not so much.
@@josefzalusky7307 Don't call this game poorly made, regardless of how you feel about it's story or mechanics... Some developers literally spent the past year at least probably working really long exhausting hours, under some annoying management team to bring you a product to play or watch ... And all you have to say it's a shitty poorly made game?
literally just finished watching the two past episodes and now jack came in clutch with a third one, big love
Same!
Literally just did the same thing!!
Ditto
Jack is completely correct about the frag grenade, it shoots fragments of shrapnel in whatever it’s range is in
"You got that through his vest ?"
Yeah, it's more likely actually ! While those vest can stop bullets, they can't stop anything that's actually pointy, like knifes or needles. Fair enough, that stick was pretty think lmao
They are on the field going against threats that have rifles and such so i'd assume they have steel plates, this game fails to impress me with how realistic this type of situation would be. Kinda flicked the off switch for me when Merwin somehow got barb wired through his plate carrier aswell lol
I think it might've been a climbing spike, judging from the way it looked both thickness wise and length wise, but I could be wrong.
I was more impressed with shoving the stick straight through the sternum lol plate of pure bone.
I love how at 53:43 jack looks away at the exact moment the monster appears, then looks back at the moment it disappears
he kinda does that often 😂
Multiple people are horribly murdered and ripped apart
Jack- “this game is so goofy”
tons of cheesy horror out there lol
@@Saboo27 Yeah people forget the 80's horror scene lived off the cheese. Honestly some of my favorite horror films are so laughable even when people are being torn apart and eaten 😂
@@azarinevil exactly what I was thinking about hahaha
Goofy ahh deaths
tisdale: * has grappling hook * nah i'll save this for when im almost 200ft underground and NOT when im only ~50ft under where i can throw it upwards with a much better chance of success... yeah, sounds like a plan
Whenever Salim's part comes out I smile hhh he's my favorite.
literally the only reasonable character in the entire game
Loving these series!
Do u doe
Yeah right
Me too
Get spooked lol
Same!
"Don't worry I'll save them" he says after two people have already died.
Despite the Sumerian background, this is just military flavored "The Descent".
tHATS WHAT I THOUGHT TOO OMG
having not seen that, this game is like the love-child between The Hills Have Eyes 2 & The Mummy.
@@MsYunaFires honestly if you havent seen "the descent" i highly recommend it! It has the same general lore and setting but they do so much better with the story / characters / monsters. i wish the devs stuck with a similar lore instead of what OP said as "military flavored "The Descent"
THATS WHAT I WAS THINKING
57:15 human remains, especially fat, when left to rot can become extremely flammable. flesh, blood, and fat are all reather oily. so its safe to say that it could feasibly catch fire.
also, Jack, bullet proof vests are not stab resistant, its too different kinds of force.
You used the wrong "to"
@@johnfkennedy-official and you did two
It's a military grade vest though, usually with ceramic padding right? I don't think anything other than high caliber bullets can penetrate that..
@@patrickchang9135 like most games, I'm pretty sure the soldiers brought light gear with them so this would be Kelvar vests, which are suspectable to slow traveling penetrative forces like knives or stakes. If this is plated armour, there's still a possibility of hitting weak spots or even hitting outside of the plate
@@patrickchang9135 high caliber bullets should not penetrate depending on the class of the plates, but most times you need armour piercing rounds
Problem with these games is they tilt too much toward science fact (as such)
Man of Medan was neither science fiction nor supernatural.
I'd want to do multiple runs but I can't bring myself to like the characters enough to keep them alive xD
But hell, like what you like - genuinely not trying to argue, just, very tired and not sure how anything I just typed came across lol
Also- loved the masked magician.
If you haven't already seen the Now You See Me films, and The Prestige, I'd definitely check them out, love them both haha
Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
- Clarke
Any sufficiently analyzed magic is indistinguishable from science.
- Heterodyne
Haha, indeed.
I do like the magic vs science when there's grounds for it, or at least if it's established as such.
Not trying to give out spoilers so if you haven't watched the last episode come back later-
But the way the aliens have survived and the way they communicate leans HEAVILY into it. The playthrough mentioned an Ark, as if it was an intentional vessel etc
Which, frankly I am fine with haha. I can dismiss a LOT of alien technology, not making a ton of sense and being... essentially magic- as their technology and their biology is different etc
yeah but same plot three games in a row..
to be honest I don't think they're the same plot at all
Beware non specific spoilers.
But they seem to just put in too many moving parts at a time and they can't focus enough on the characters in a way to make us care about them - or the other mechanics suffer instead
Credit where its due, they're not terrible games. Just a chore to play from the look of it, especially if you want to take them seriously.
Just each game in this series has has SO MUCH potential to be so much better and it's such a shame.
