One thing I think the final product could implement is thinking more about the lineweight and how that effects the light and shadows, especially in a piece like this where the lineart is a very major part of the art. Lines are usually made to be thinner where the light touches, since lines can really help to show that something is supposed to have a strong shadow(like making a line thicker when its supposed to be/go under something, implying that the shadow is stronger there.) So it looks a bit off how the lineart of the hand is VERY thick compared to the lineart on the legs, where the shadows would be stronger due to the lightsource hitting the character from above. Hope that explained it okey-ish! Its hard to explain stuff like this in text form sometimes.

Thanks so much Zillion for this! It's been years since I shaded and this was a great reminder. I like your technique with the lasso tool but I find it a little tricky, will get more used to it! My first attempt at shading a simple sketch wasn't great, but I feel like I learned from it :)
When you started off with the sphere, I tried 1-uping you and did cell-shaded instead of gradient. Then, you moved on to cell-shading anyway. I felt a bit less cool after that. Other than that, I felt very informed by this video. At first, I was a bit uncomfortable to erase so much for the light, but then I messed around, and ended up getting something nice for my own drawing. Thanks, Zilly!
I've recently learned 1 tone shading. I've been getting better and better at putting it in the right spot. Im going to try and use this on my next drawing!
"yo, what program is that?" nah im just kidding, this video heled me out a lot, were actually doing shading in my design class, so this heled me understand a bit more ^w^
I’m really looking forward to more content from you. Your videos are hilarious, informative, and very well-produced. Hopefully when your schedule is a bit more refined, you’ll finally get the amount of subs you deserve.
Honestly when im shading i just use a less opaque brush with a large range and i put it where i think the lighting should be and it works well enough for me
I’m newer to your channel and haven’t watched very many videos yet so I don’t know if you’ve mentioned it. What do you use to draw? What I mean is like do you use a trackpad, stylus, drawing tablet?
Well because you're so polite I'll actually answer you instaid of rick rolling you. I use a Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 and the drawing program I use is Adobe Photoshop CC.
I mainly do shadows with cell and stuff like the reflection off of eyes or screens I'd use render. But then again... I'm not that good with drawing, or using either shading technique, or else I wouldn't be watching these types of videos so much
I studied my study book as I walked to my locker. I was just minding my own business (and reading my study book, of course) when USBwholookslikerobot and Forkwithgooglyeyes shoved past me as they ran. “Outa our ways!” USB ordered as I fell to the ground. #harsh. Anyway, I dropped my study book as I fell flat on my spongy face. I lifted my face from the ground and reached for my book.
