Moved to Hawaii Sept 2020 and Matson charged $7850 for 20ft container from Santa Cruz Ca to Kauai. Another $350 for delivery to Kauai house from port. Very efficient service all around. I did have to build a ramp to load the container. Found some YT vids that were helpful on ramps. Leave room on side of container to slide the ramp in to use on Hawaii end. Then I built garage shelving with extra lumber. We also shipped 2 vehicles using Matson. $1750 ea. Great service on that too!
We did all of our loading and unloading ourselves. But there are reputable people that will load/unpack your container if you need help. Look on craigslist under moving service. I've been enjoying your informative videos, Aloha!

2018: We got a U-Pack “pod” (8’x8’) delivered right to our driveway in San Jose. We packed it full to the top with 2 bedrooms worth of furniture, all our kitchen stuff including pots, pans, dishes, appliances (no fridge, of course), dining table with 6 chairs, bikes, etc. All in for $4,000.
Pros: Very convenient: Door to door service. Also, I consider it a plus that you pack it yourself because if you have any valuables (and who doesn’t?!) then you get to be extra careful and pack them accordingly.
Con: You pack yourself (Hence the name U-Pack, not quite as convenient as having pros do it.

In '99 from California I took furniture, piano, rocking chairs, etc to a semi dry spot in the south of big island. The salt, vog and humidity were not kind. Swollen wood, pitted chrome, etc. Rethink your lifestyle and adopt the motto Less is more. Live Aloha!

Packing for this wasn't too hard because we had already downsized to live into our travel trailer full time across the USA. We are so happy to be able to visit Hawaii now as well :)

Moved to hawaii in 2010. Sold almost everything in ca and sent some over in boxes. Suggest selling it and buying it again. Did send the car over. Everyone wants to live in hawaii and i did. I loved it but couldnt get career going there. Was a hs teacher and the teaching jobs werent real good. If you have to work you will probably not be able to retire there. Things are expensive and in my opinion the island only lets in some people.....a few stay and many leave. I always had the feeling that outsiders shouldnt have been able to live there...we took their culture from them....

@@365Hawaii Thank you, I'll look into it. My nephew and his family live there and are enticing my family and I too join them. I lived in Haleiwa Oahu years ago and worked at Turtle Bay. I left my animals behind at the time due to the process and since I knew it wasn't a permanent move. But this time it would be different since I'd be moving with my husband and daughter for good. Mason will not allow personal stuff in the car. Not sure why, maybe safety.

I've asked a few companies about that same idea. None of them lets you put personal things in your vehicle to be shipped, unless they are vehicle related items like jumper cables, tire iron, spare tire, etc.

What a waste of money everyone puts in moving but I guess those of you who can afford those figures have enough to throw away and little to loose and plenty left. The meaning of frugal has no meaning.
