It's interesting how so many don't understand that the leather is good on these. People seem to only be attracted to that fake tumbled leather. I love the R Bred and these. Same with the Air Ship PE's.
It's straight up crazy how clueless most people are about the leather. Tumbled does not equal good! These have the best leather we've seen out of a retro in a very long time and I've heard major collectors talking about how shitty they found it. Boggles my mind..

I was already super pumped about finally (I’m getting them no matter what) getting the upcoming ‘85 Neutral (Natural) Greys, but this video really solidified it. So glad to hear, from someone who truly has knowledge/experience of the originals, about how good the ‘85s are in terms of shape, and especially quality, as there’s been so much chatter about their stiffer leather being of bad quality, but it seems to not be the case.
Thanks for the info and comparison. I was fortunate to grab this year’s All Star 85 red/black and since then really started falling down the OG 1985 rabbit hole. Info is hard to come by easily so this video and the buyers guide are super helpful. Youve earned a sub!

Great video! I just examined my true blue 1s that took some 85 appointments and at least on that color way, the tongue tag has a different Nike script and the older style swoosh, just like the lost and founds. I figured these probably had it too, along with the different pattern on the slightly narrower midsole.
Sick comparison. I really wanna get one of these new 85s or the OG 85s one day! :D
Really makes you wonder why Nike even bothers with mids and continued production of the modern retro version. Knowing that they can produce these and choose not to, especially since it's what everyone wants is just ridiculous.
You would have to somehow persuade everyone working at Nike to do it. Not just one single person can make it happen.
This is such great content! I think you could do a lot better by showing more close ups of the things you’re talking about because it’s hard to really verify the differences, or similarities, even if slight, at a distance. You focused on a lot of positives but I think close ups help us to really hold JB accountable visually, and we can weigh in in the comments

The new og hi mold looks way better from a fashion aesthetic. The 85 cut is way closer to the OG though.

This is a very small thing, which you missed, but i was sure you would point out: The retros have the "TM" next to the wings logo. the new beginning iteration, like the 85 pairs does NOT have that, which is a much cleaner look! I did learn a lot from this video though, thank you!
Hey. I really respect ur expertise on the jordan 1. I love it. I wanted your opinion on the viberemakelab version. I know they are bespoke and not authentic from Nike but as someone who wants the closest thing to the original. What do u think of the shape and quality?

I feel like the swoosh on the NB pair is like a dunk swoosh where it’s super low, kind of upset they didn’t raise the heel counter a bit to raise the swoosh imo

The 2020 85 cuts use a synthetic leather for the swoosh I believe

How come you didn’t compare the forefoot stabilizers? I think that is one of the most important parts to an 85 because it’s so exaggerated and cartoony. It has more curve and is thinner in the middle of that panel
I feel like they did match the leather. The OGs just appear thicker because they’ve frayed with age and wear to make the cut flare out more. The 85 retros will do the same over time with wear

Have you gotten a 2020 Reverse Bred 85 in hand yet?
IMO biggest difference that changes the whole look is the toebox, all AJ retros nowadays have the oversized toebox, sometimes blocky sometimes just bigger than og. Combined with the sole curling up like a banana just kills the look.

I always felt 85s had more room in the toe compared to 94s or 01s
jordan still didn't put the place of the swoosh correctly. the 2020 swoosh sits too low
I'm looking for a quality pair of Jordan 1 but I believe many of them use a lot of synthetic leather or mostly synthetic leather. Is there a way to know when ordering whether i'm going to get full leather upper and a high quality leather? For example On kicks crew some Nike Air Jordan 1 Retro High OG are listed as having a leather upper, some are listed as having a synthetic upper and some it just doesn't say at all. Seems hard to know what you're getting. I saw a teardown of the 2015 shattered backboards and he said the leather was decent quality and all real yet the other ones he cut up, white mids, were mostly fake leather and cheap leather.
Any of the 85 cuts, the 2016 black toes, the 2015 Chicago's, the 2018 shadows, the 2017 Royals, the 2019 obsidian as well as the bred toe, and the pine green/ court purples all have solid leather

In my experience, the Teams run a bit larger - about .5 size
What colorways do you think they're gonna put out in the Hi 85?🤔... I would go nutts over a black toe with a black tongue in a Hi 85. My guess is they're gonna keep slightly altering OG colorways like they did these 1st 2 releases.
If they did that with the black toe, I'd lose my mind in the best way possible haha. I don't know if we'll see any OG CW's in this cut in 2020 tbh. I really hope we do but there is slim to no chance..

Tbh i like the modern og highs over the 2020 85s and the actual 85s . These looks so dated, that 90 degree angle doesn't look appealing to me. Our foot ain't designed like a stick man and that narrow toe box is hell for people with wide feet.

Same reason they did not use real leather around the collars. They used that vinyl crap also. Laziness. And being cheap. Why not go all the way. They stopped at 99 out of 100.
The 85 Retro leather is the same or similar to the Air Force 1 leather. That was proven in a deconstruction video. Pretty unfortunate.
They still don't look like the '85s smh. I like the toe box on the real 85 much better
It's too bad that the Nike check on the retros is placed lower on the shoe than the OGs. I think it hurts the look of the shoe.

I generally keep some yellowing as I think it enhances the look but if they're too bad, I whiten them just a bit.

@@pramey just buy a replica and do it. That's what the entire replica community has been doing basically lol. Even aging the midsoles and distressing the piping, ankle area, etc. I've also seen black toes and breds replicated using these.
