Beyond Words: The Language of Music

- I recently had the immense privilege of spending time at Studio Richter Mahr to help my friend with a recording project. Over the course of two weeks we had the chance to record some music on the stunning grand piano there, and also work alongside some great artists and friends coming in and out throughout the process. The conversations we had during that time led me to make this video. It's about releasing that pressure and weight of expectation and realising that you can let music speak for itself sometimes, and we can let go of the need to always be understood as artists. It's a thought that's really helping me to get over my creative block and I thought it might help others too!

I feel like such a challenge of being a creative and artist is just that; we are always growing, processing, creating, tapping into new ways and forms of what we love to do. It is sometimes so hard to just stay in one way/lane.
I feel that in this way we are reflecting our Abba, The Creator. His creation is limitless and impossible to define into one category, purpose, method or expression. And yes it does flow from Him like a beautiful flowing river. I love that He allows us to share that character through the ability to create freely. It all brings such great glory to Him.

I'm still early on my art journey, but, I think that is a key to making something that will be authentic and connect with people. To do it out of an almost child-like love for doing the thing. Not being too precious, or conscious about putting it into words or explaining ourselves for social media. just putting it out there even if we feel it's still rough around the edges, but to just keep making and putting it out there. At the same time, constantly pursuing excellence in our particular art form, with the LORD.
I also agree about feeling you have to put it into words. I like the quote by Monet which I think captures what we should aim for as artists. To show people how we feel, or as a musician, to let people hear how you feel. To look beyond the thing in front of us, such as a subject being painted or a type of song style being written. But try to capture that initial feeling we have and share it with people.

I don't think we're meant to stay the same throughout our lives, and that includes artistically, creatively...I would say enjoy what the Lord is doing in you and not be concerned with whether people will like it or not. We are successful when we are submitting completely to God and being faithful to him, regardless of the size of the paycheck or if anyone else understands.
