    this father is a real man. crying openly, going to therapy, admitting his mistakes, willingly changing and bettering himself for his son. what an incredible man!

    • @Big-nk3zi

      Everything was good but the therapy no need for therapy just don’t hate people cause there differnt end of story

    • @whynotyoutubewhynot
      @whynotyoutubewhynot 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Big-nk3zi it sounds so easy when you put it like that but some people need outside help to deal with their issues. sometimes the hate has been internalized and is too rooted in their personal values. there’s nothing wrong with therapy and it’s actually an amazing thing that manny’s dad made the effort to seek professional help to better understand his son.

    This just proves that using the line “they’re from a different generation/time/culture” is not a justification for discrimination. Your father didn’t use that as an excuse and instead educated and bettered himself. It takes a brave person to recognise their mistakes, especially when it’s a sensitive topic. So much respect for both of you 💖

      Adrianna I think she brought it up because Latino families, especially in Mexican communities, there are very strong machista ties & sexual orientation is a very taboo topic.

    • @tiffanychavez2073
      @tiffanychavez2073 6 ปีที่แล้ว +43

      I completely agree, things tend to be as Manny said "Don't ask don't tell" in the Latino community and when things like sexuality or even mental health are brought up, they tend to be taboo and swept under the rug. It's not a race thing as much as it is traditionalism, and how things are passed on through family. Talking about this is a HUGE deal and I commend anyone of any race who are able to do so and come out with a more educated understanding. Much love to Manny and his dad for doing this💗

      I have a friend who is Latina and she's gay. Due to her family and the way they were brought up, being anything other than straight was heavily frowned upon. Sure all family's are different and function different ways but she explained to me that there are a lot of Latinos who frown upon lgbtq life. I am not an expert. I cannot speak as an experienced person on this I can only speak from what my single experience is and what my friend shared with me during her hard times.

    • @jordang.8322

    My daughter went through a stint of depression last year (6th grade)and really started withdrawing into herself. I'll be honest, I was really scared. With so much more light being shown on teen suicide lately, I couldn't bear the thought of ever losing my little girl like that. We talked a lot and decided that counseling was a good idea to help her find tools to help deal with her depression and anxiety. We went for a couple of months until she felt comfortable with the tools she had learned to use. Even after all that though, I still felt like she wasn't the same kid. It took her awhile, but when she finally came out and told me she was gay, let me tell you! When I told her that I didn't care if she liked girls, boys, or whatever, I just wanted her to be happy and love life, something clicked in her and there was my fun, goofy little girl again! Just being able to be herself and know that she is loved and supported from both her mother and her father...man! I feel like the world opened up for her. I hope parents can be more open to loving their children for who they are and not for who "WE" think they should be. Manny, thank you to you and your father for sharing this struggle. You are awesome!!!💖💋

      I agree .... Never love someone less based on their sexual preference ... Let him live his best life .... I know many gay people they don't choose it ... Its who they are .... Years ago the world didn't agree with it so many were forced into a life they weren't meant to b in .... 2015 many were able to b who they were born to b..... My gay uncle was forced into q marriage with a kid which isn't who he is .... Years later still not happy i was 7 i asked him how do you know you're gay he says well honey when you're in highschool & realize you're more attracted to the football team & not cheerleaders i knew then however at that time i knew i couldn't b that person ...smfh
      I have 3 kids 17/16 year old boys 10 year old girl i will always love them no matter what ..... I am that parent !!!!!

    Papa Manny,
    Thank you.
    As a lesbian Latina raised catholic, my birth parents kicked me out and was placed in foster care at an early age... in part because of their struggles in understanding homosexuality. So many LGBTQ+ have unfortunately... been faced with the choice of losing themselves, or losing their loved ones. DADT(Don't Ask Don't Tell), followed into my military service. Though the world may still not feel comfortable with who we are, eeevvvery change of heart makes a difference!
    Your voice, your story, your sharing and vulnerability has the power to make a true change. Happy Father's Day and thank you both for the gift of closure and understanding.

I'm so happy to see your father do this video, mine has never gotten over it or dealt with his demons and my mom tries, but she still doesn't accept and I've been out since I was 16... no computers then but there was porn and mom searched until she found it... Thank you for being you and the inspiration you are to me personally. I too dabbled in drag back in the day (San Diego native as well) performing at WCPC and the Brass Rail to express my creativity, sneaking out windows and changing in my car. You've given me the courage to glam it up on occasion as a man and I'll always appreciate you for that. Love always.....

    Damn, you’re dad did that!!!!! I love this!!!!!! My family is also traditional Latinos. I was dragged out of the closet. My dad confronted me and was pissed. This was 10 years ago and we still are “don’t ask don’t tell” and I’m married now to another woman. My mom took it hard. But when I got married, I gave her an ultimatum. Either she accepted me or she wasn’t going to have a relationship with me. She said that she had to learn to accept it. Now, she asks me about my wife all the time. IT DOES GET BETTER. love this. Love y’all!

    Loved this video!!
    I was disowned by my stepdads entire family when my cousin outed me to them, I was out to friends and my parents but not to his side of the family..
    When they found out we never got invited to family functions so my stepdad called them to see if they were doing the regular Easter lunch and they said that my parents were more then welcome but I wasn’t because they didn’t “agree with her lifestyle”
    So holidays are very lonely because it’s just me, my mom, and my stepdad.. holidays are extremely sad and depressing times because I grew with them since I was 9 and I’m 26 now. It’s been over 3 years and still really effects me:(
    Sorry for the long paragraph but this video really hit me.
    I’m so glad your father had changed his views and lives and supports you ❤️❤️

      I wish my parents thought like you and loved my unconditionally... I came out as a lesbian years ago, because I truly thought I was a lesbian and I went on to have an long-term relationship with a woman until her death a few years ago. I now find myself interested in guys even though I've never dated one, but I'm also still attracted to girls and it's weird for me and my parents are so closeminded. In particular, I wish that my mom could be someone I could talk to about absolutely anything, but it seems it'll never ever happen. People always say it will get better, but this is something that is never going to get better. I know she loves me, but it's conditional and I can't be myself (whoever that is). ♥️ Hugs.

    When my daughter came out. She asked me What If I was gay? I was...And? I honestly had no issue with who she loves. I love her. Period. She's my life.
    My only pause for thought was , people will discriminate against her. We live in Oregon a very progressive state, so bigotry isn't as prevalent as other places. So it wasn't so bad.
    Now 10 yrs later she's married and has adopted a child..

      Lex King I enjoyed reading your comment, but you don't get to define a man's manhood. A man defines himself just as women do, too. Just because a guy doesn't fit your description of a "real man" it doesn't mean he isn't a one. Instead, he just may not be the man for you or your life. We don't get to define other peoples manhood and/or womanhood, nor a persons sexuality either.

    • @itslex5524
      @itslex5524 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Brock An-Ra I don’t want this to be taken as me saying what a man should be or shouldn’t be. But in MY opinion after hearing the story it was the right thing to do as a father and a man to accept his son. I don’t have a dad in my life so seeing this man is something I wish I had.

    • @brockwalker462
      @brockwalker462 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Lex King Lex King I agree that it was the right thing to do as a parent, but also as a father. Every parent should accept their child for who they are despite how difficult it might be to come to terms with it. Also, I'm sorry to hear that your father isn't present in your life.
      Personally, I take issue with those who try and define a persons manhood/womanhood, sexuality, race, etc. That's why I felt the need to share my thoughts on this when I read your comment. In saying that, I don't think it was your intention to try and define someone as being a "real man" or not. Although, it is something we should all try and avoid doing because it's not up to others to label or define us based on their perceptions.
      Enjoy your day/night. :-D

    Mr. Manny Jr. I just want to commend you for coming forward & opening up to us, strangers about such a personal matter. I really hope you forgive yourself bc in the Latino culture, in your era especially, it was unacceptable to accept or to even admit your child is gay. It’s considered a huge embarrassment especially for a Father to come to terms with their sons being gay. Most families shun their children bc of this. We are taught that so, you did not know any better. It’s ok bc what matters now & what’s important is the relationship you have now. Also, ppl whom are gay have to allow their parents to grieve the life they envisioned their kids to have & to accept what they never imagined their families life to be. I actually heard this from a gay man & it was a ah ha moment. One of the BEST & important videos on YT! This may save MANY lives!!! Thank you!
