    Rex, I appreciate your time and efforts in bringing this and other valuable information to our brothers today.
    2019: Mosin Nagants selling anywhere between $200-$500. Like the $99 SKSs or the $175 Russian AKs, them days are long gone.
    Like my Pop used to tell my momma every time she questioned why he need another gun, “Momma, it’s an investment for our children”. Most of Pops rifles are bolt action Winchester’s and Remington’s, maybe six or seven pump actions centerfire rifles and Remington semi autos. A few WWI surplus and a couple more WWII era surplus. A couple of M1As and carbines.
    - Thanks Pop. You would be pleased to know that 17 of your 22 great grandchildren own and operate at least one of your rifles. The youngest five will be getting one as they “age up”. 🇱🇷

    In a Red Dawn scenario remember the goal should not be to outright defeat the enemy. But to make it as painful for them to stay as possible. Because at the end of the day the regular Soldier doesn't want to be there.

      No country can or ever will invade the USA. Geographically almost impossible. They don't have the force projection, supply lines, nor the ability to avoid all of the defenses we have. Not to mention they wouldn't want to simply because every civilian will likely be armed.
      The closest thing we will ever come to a Red Dawn scenario are the remaining white rural American's being hunted down by drones like we hunt down the Taliban.

    • @stevenbaumann5911
      @stevenbaumann5911 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      What do you think what would happen if the United States falls into a civil war? Every day that's looking more and more likely. Best case scenario, we have a peaceful divorce. Even then depending on how many countries we split up into, our forces would be much weaker unless we have some kind of mutual defense treaty. Then you also have to look at our Southern border. We can't even stop or choose not to stop illegal immigration coming through. So it's not that much of a stretch for an invading Force to come through there, especially if whoever is the Mexican president is very anti-American.

    • @paddypibblet846
      @paddypibblet846 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stevenbaumann5911 We absolutely positively CAN stop illegal immigration from south of the border. We did for the majority of our existence as a country. It wasn't until the elite wanted to dilute the high IQ population with savages that it has turned a blind eye and the border patrol serves only to stop terrorists that would attack politicians. The people running the show will never allow a peaceful divorce, otherwise they lose power. The civil war (if it even happens) will be corporations, the bought and traitorous US government, bankers, internationalists, the UN, NATO, leftists, commies, liberals, and the controlled opposition Republicans against rural white America. We either integrate into the Borg of degeneracy and dysgenics or prepare to live like the Taliban, hoping one day the system falls apart and gives up.

      I have been using the Accubond 225 gr and 250 gr. I reduce the loads to 1800 fps and then shoot a deer rib bone, backed with milk cartons full of watter. Because I don't have access to ballistic gelatin, I just use milk cartons to compare different loads. (Each carton is 2.5" thick) If you sent me your email I would be happy to share some pictures of the bullets I caught.
      Thanks for your interest.

    You nailed it, Rex. You can't fight a military force like some combat hero in the movies, not alone and not even in small numbers. But at range, any skilled sniper is a lethal threat. Millions of hunters and snipers picking off commanders and cutting off supply lines would be catastrophic to an invading force. Engaging in offensive combat can be useful only in well trained groups and effective with support as well. Long range shooting is quickly becoming more popular -keep up the great work!

  • @jwill540
    @jwill540 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    My recommendation is a semi auto platform with a 1-6x scope in 5.56 or .308 the ability to engage at distance allows you to break contact against a numerically and more heavily armed force. If you engage in close combat you will most likely lack in firepower, numbers and training. A semi auto platform also allows a high volume of fire and today's platforms are plenty accurate out past 300 meters.

  • @codebebop
    @codebebop 8 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    I have to disagree. An AR or AK are the all around go to rifles to defend liberty and everything else. Ammo is cheaper to stock up on, mags are cheaper to stock up on, and you can "shoot and evade" with those weapons and still be effective to 300yards. Just because it's semi automatic doesn't mean you have to or will start mag dumping on enemies in a RED DAWN situation. But you at least have the option of suppression power.
    I would in conjunction, throw a bolt action on my back if I was as accurate as an actual sniper to 800 yards realistically. Other than that scenario,(in my opinion) the AR, AK, or FAL and PTR91(if you could afford stocking up on .308s) are the best go to war, home defense, overall rifles.

    • @codebebop
      @codebebop 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Jason saddler well then if it comes down to that then they are not much good to themselves or others in a "Red Dawn" scenario. At best they can defend their home until they run out of ammo. But the AR/AK are affordable and that set up is very obtainable if you save up. Look at the cost of 30-06, a hundred rounds is going to run you well over a $100. So to answer the original question, yes you can use any gun to defend your home, but to defend liberty, you need an AR or AK or similar. Bolt guns aren't going to be the all around weapon that you'll need in that scenario. Just my two cents of course.

    • @codebebop
      @codebebop 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jason saddler also where are you spending $200 for 500 rounds??? Aimsurplus has 1000rds of wolf 62gr steel case for $219. Heck I've seen brass for $300 and steel case for $185 on ammo seek/laxammo

    • @Polskmofo
      @Polskmofo 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @codebebop

    • @joseph9400
      @joseph9400 7 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Really all you need is enough to kill a small group or loan soldier and then you've got another weapon and some ammo, but ideally I'd want an intermediate to lower-end high power round like 308 with a decent rifle. And then just scavenge whatever you can for suppression or closer defense fighting.

    70 million American gun owners do more for preserving freedom in America than all the politicians combined.
    While I'm atypical, the only reason I need a gun is my confronter is out of my reach. But more people need to learn self defense along with firearm accuracy and tactics. It teaches a sense of self control and self esteem that adds tremendously to their firearms capability.

    Mmmm. I dunno. Pointing to an outlier like Simo and saying, "see you only need a big ass, long, heavy mosin nagant and iron sights." Is like telling average everyday females, "see, you dont need a force multplier to deal with a male on the street. Just learn to fight like Rhonda Rousey". Many people arent going to come close to that guy. Or, they would have to spend such an extraordinary amount on ammo that it isnt even within their financial means, or free time schedule to do so. If you have one gun, why not get something that can cover multiple bases? Close, mid, far-ish, high ammo availability, easily suppressable, easy to find replacement parts, etc.

    I've more than decided on a high end 338 Lapua for my application. Especially since all of my close friends and family have m14's ,AR 15's, are well trained with handguns, I'd rather have range and practical camouflage at my advantage. I just can't decide If I want to go with a desert tech 338 bolt action with a 26 inch barrel, or one of the new AR type platform, semi auto 338's that have 20-22 inch barrels. In the event the I were ever separated and absolutely needed to get into a firefight with even a small amount of people, having the semi auto firepower would be an advantage, possibly worth the small sacrifice in velocity from having a longer barrel bolt action.

    $375 bolt action 30-06 or 308 and a 250$ scope is all one needs. simple and effective. The white death had 700+ kills and used an old ww2 bolt action and open sights! And in 1998 before he died some asked him how did he get so good with a rifle he said one word "practice".

      Its was rifle action from before ww1, refurbished and rebarreled by finnish gun smiths.
      Häyhä was good shot because he joined White Guard-militia when he was 17-years old.
      During wars he used same rifle he had been practising and hunting for many years.

    I have read the memoirs of a few Army Ranger snipers who served in the sandbox. Sgt Cleckner and Sgt Irving. Irving is also known as "The Reaper" for the most confirmed kills in a deployment and he shot an SR-25 in .308 and his sniper team leader shot a .300 Win Mag that always jammed. Most engagements were less than 800 yards and plenty within the 300 yards mentioned here.

    So what I found that works for me is that if I watch this movie or that I'm asked about this or that scenario, having read a bit of history and have been exposed to strategy I do this.
    1) I draw into the history knowledge that I have accumulated.
    2) I then draw upon my experiences from...SHTF scenarios I have encountered.
    3) Then when considering say a Republic wide disaster where there is a SHTF or WROL(Without rule of law) scenario I feel you have to weigh the notion of attack, running vs intel gathering.
    A) You absolutely shouldn't do anything without adequate intel, which can be as simple as being new and asking people what to expect in the area.
    B) Running from a fight is not cowardice if your losses do nothing for the over arching stratagem of a larger resistance against say the Chinese. Out right abandonment of an area(running) is going to mean forgoing intel and defensive option for a local. However if these supposed Chinese bad actors have your names and faces, you aren't any good anyway.
    C) Fighting is a valiant and heroic deed when it is a for a valiant and heroic action. Going out and just whacking a a Chinese private who is little more than cannon fodder anyway with a few million troops on their side is little more than target practice. Destroying equipment and valued infrastructure is a more key component to fighting. Then hopefully you have access to a larger group so their fewer and fewer options can be capitalized upon. However with more option for them to use you can also force a destabilized/unbalanced distribution of troops. These things have all been done in history many times over. Not the least of which were the French using any one of these three options at any one time.
    4) So I consideration of a response to shtf/wrol I take into account the troops availability(partisans) and the overall training of each one.
    A highly trained group of say 82nd Airborne on up the ladder of to and up to the top tier SF can be self generating in their responses to their own intel. This was addressed in any number of recent Iraq war books.
    Lower trained soldiers who haven't really continued to shoot on down to minimal trained to no training civilians cannot generate anything. Any victories against hardened modern military targets would be anecdotal at best, and most likely not without high casualties.
    5) Final assessment.
    In the considerations I try to manage for their answer the lowest key target priorities they can handle against these notional Chinese bad actors. Harassment and interdiction is better than trying to get a pick up team to go after targets that out class them. The interdiction of these Chinese targets would be the equipment and infrastructure. The level of training is what dictates what equipment and infrastructure, or even against what value of personnel to target in a shft/wrol. That's my take.
    But I like what you put out, I like your take on this whole topic here.

    Even at the time of this recording, Mosins were $250 in most places. No, a bolt action isn't a bad option, but you absolutely need to know how to run it as a combat gun. A LOT of civilian bolt actions are meant for hunting alone and therefore can't really make the transition to 'combat'. They can be hard to load, have sticky actions, limited capacity, and scopes that get in the way of rapid movements. If it is truly a SHTF scenario, then you'll need a firearm that will allow you to skirmish as well. A deer gun will give you good standoff, but escape and evade only works until it doesn't. You know, even Chris Kyle took an M4 carbine as a secondary firearm when he went out on the line. What the commentator also ignores is that those marksmen in the Russian army around Stalingrad were backed up by a million-strong army.
    Ideally, you'll want larger capacity than 3-5 rounds and that you can achieve rapid follow-up shots with. Therefore, you really should have an AR-15/AR-10 or equivalent. Just because it has 20-30 rounds doesn't mean you have to dump them all at once. You can buy 5-round mags if you're that concerned about ammo consumption. With patience and TH-cam instructional videos, a very high quality rifle can be built for less than $450. Just use it as a bolt action that you don't have to manually cycle, but that you can put repeated shots down with in case things go sideways. It's not the weapon, it's how you use it.

    also another point was that during the russo-chechen war in the 90s early 2000s the chechens used bolt action .22lrs in urban settings against the russians. they were pretty effective especially when they were aiming at the neck of relatively stagnent soldiers at around 50yrds or so. held them up pretty good and nothings more terrorfying than seeing your buddy next to you drop from that and you have no clue where it came from

  • @Murderface666
    @Murderface666 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I would say for a Red Dawn scenario, always keep an AR15 for local compatibility, but keep an AK47 for foreign compatibility just in case you come across enemy ammo. I really would hate to have to depend on a foreign enemy weapon (other than for parts) that has a zero so off (if one at all) that can't hit a damn thing at 200 meters.

      Are you possibly confusing Vietnam with Korea? The late Carlos Hathcock, one of the top-scoring Marine snipers in Vietnam, and his spotter, John Burke, held off an entire Vietnamese battalion for a number of days using well-aimed fire and good field-craft to decimate the enemy and survive the encounter.
