G'day guys. I had been thinking of making a video like this for a long time to answer a common question I get asked but also to showcase a bit more of what the game offers that people might not know about. I hope it not super rambly and is at least somewhat helpful for those of you who struggle with what to do next. I think that trying different characters is something people overlook when playing this game. Maining one charecter is good and all, but trying them all is even better.
@@AnimeDude. what? WHAT??? how do you figure that??? Most of the characters are significantly different and force or encourage the player to focus on different things, such as being vegetarian or only eating meat, not being able to heal with food, not loosing sanity in the rain or the dark, or having a passive sanity regen. Willow is encouraged to be insane with a nightmare fighting bear, and gains enough sanity to live on just from lighting fires, Wendy pretty much lives her entire existence vicariously through Abigail, massacring most in game mobs easily, Wurt builds cities for her people in the swamp, gaining sanity from holding fish, Wigfrid lives for battle and gains sanity and health when fighting, wx can upgrade pretty much everything about himself, Wanda doesn't even have a health bar??? Walter literally goes insane if he even gets hit by anything...ect...How are you unaffected by any of this? now I'm really curious about what your playstyle is and who you play as???
@@Jinjetica well if u good at fighting that barely matter imo.. maybe at fuelweaver and bq but its pretty much it.. yes some need a little bit different playstyle but not by much.. take warly for example u can eat 2 meaty stew when he hungry just like i usually do with other char.. only eat meat dont change much either since most crockpot dish are meat based.. for wurt once u kill bq u can just farm a lot of crop and bundle it.. willow teddy is just bad for fighting and i rather not use it lol
When you read through the list of steps you have to go through to beat both the Fuelweaver and the Celestial Champion, it really puts into perspective... How the hell would anyone just playing through the game regularly ever reach even 5% of that content on their own, without a guide or a friend telling them that that's what you need to do? The game is in DIRE need of some kind of progression signposting integrated into the game itself. Nobody is ever going to 'just so happen to' catch a Canary in the Overworld with a Scarecrow, bring it into the caves, let it poison itself, and then drop it on the ground and let it explode right on top of that weird mushroom, then chop that mushroom to summon Misery Toadstool. The same is true for the core storylines too, they are just far too idiosyncratic to ever be discovered naturally through regular gameplay or trial and error. 20 years ago we would have said that if you need to Alt-Tab out of the game and consult a walkthrough just to complete it, that's bad design. Now that seems to be fairly common practice.
this is EXACTLY what im saying, every SINGLE TIME i play this game i get on survive until autumn 2 and then get bored and leave, then 2 years later i do it again cause i like the style of the game, like WHERE DO I GO, im constantly seeing so much content on youtube ive never even caught a whiff of, this guy wants me to do 700 things that dont make any sense that i have no clue how to do just to progress. like i just wanna play the game lmao
my friend has already given up since the micro management in this game is just too much, i wish there was an option to turn it down cause neither of us want to deal with constant hunger constant temperature problems constant random earthquakes dog attack boss spawns all destroying the base. AND random shit lighting on fire which i turned off btw cause wtf like we cant even play
After like 900 hours into game and many updates character refresh etc it doesnt really reignite my love for game. Sure i can experience the new updates but what’s next after it, back to the same old *routine* again. DST is a great game indeed but every journey has its end, i had fun with it and might return if my friends all gather back.
I think that's more than fair. It's very uncommon that any game will hold a person's interest for 100 hours let alone 1000 or more. Sometimes it's just nice to have new experiences as well.
For those getting tired of DST, I'd reccomend joining a Starving Floor dedicated server. Starving Floor's a really fun gamemode, it's basically the Forge but with classes, all the enemies from the base game, and the survivors retain their perks.
In my opinion if your tired of don't Starve together is play another game eventually u might want to play DST again and if so good for you but if you don't its probably not a game for you anymore
Endless and Rollback makes the game so much enjoyable for me. I can make mistakea and fix it by rollong back and I don't have to worry about accidental deaths.
tbh it seems like to me that youre just very bad at the game and you should get a different one and thats coming from someone who used to play with the extra equip slots mod
I’d love to get more into DST, but is difficult to find any dedicated groups to play with, especially those with less enough lag that I can walk. I’d love to experience the game with a few other people together, and without lagging 24/7 :/
@@cosmicpotato3849 look on twitch!!! lots of streamers (including me) play on a set time every week, or several times per week. that way it wont matter if you cant make it once, and you also get to know more people! I f.e. stream every monday and thursday for 3 hours. lots of people keep joining back, but sometimes some people leave, and new people come. and ofc, sometimes a new world once the old one reaches a good amount of years
Then there's me with 650 hours, still in the survival stage because I like to play on servers and those reset. The farthest I've gotten is day 50, spring.
I love this game! I've been playing this game for the last 10 years I think I started with the original Don't starve. and still its offers new gameplay every now and then I just got 100 hours on my new steam account I'm sure I played Lot more than that
great video yet again! does anyone know the name fo the mod used at 2:32 as i have slight vision problems and that like highlight box would rlly help me with placing things thx!
i just beat the four seasons and have collected enough resources to do whatever i want i just dont know where to go, i mean i looked around the caves they had nothing in them, ive explored all over the map didnt find anything that stood out, i built an entire boat and roamed around the water just trying to find salt for the salt box and didnt even find that let alone anything significant. i just feel like i walk around for hours and just dont find anything interesting and get bored. my friend gets easily annoyed at how much micro management you have to do in this game so ends up just getting off especially when theres just nothing to do. i just cant figure out where to go or what to do, and sure you explained how to get to the final boss but idk where all those places are, how to get to them, or how to even do them. i have a big fat empty world where i sit around until an annoying big boss tries to break our entire base, kill them get nothing significant. then different seasons locking us down from exploring and other shit just constantly being an annoyance to the point where we cant really do much, and since you have like 2 minutes a day to be able to see and not run around in the dark with a torch it makes it really hard, we cant speedrun the game so we cant even really play. i really like the style and feel of the game its just TOO fast in one area and waayy too slow in another. we literally just brough 2 beefalo back and they want the entire maps supply of food to be happy and its just getting too annoying for my friend, any tips on what to do directly after surviving the 4 seasons and beating deerman gooseman and badgerman. that would be nice
Today I got to day 200 and I still have a lot to do but I think am getting closer to the end so thx Edit:...ummm it took me 200days to be able to pass the servive phase and half the growing phase I guess I still have long way to go
If you can get to 100, you've passed the survival phase. It doesn't mean that you won't ever die again but you know what you need to do to keep yourself alive.
For the first time I'm about to cross over into my second year, and I'm only just now getting to the point where I feel like I'm doing more than just surviving
Hi Turnip! Glad to see your kitty is still going strong. Great video as well! I've only just started venturing into the story phase so I haven't asked the question what to do next yet, but it's nice to see the overarching story arch even if it seems a bit complicated 😂

Even for myself, I've only really played a significant amount of maybe half a dozen characters.
Unfortunately only a small amount of characters force you to change your playstyle

Never gone beyond Survival so far xD So for me the question "what to do" never occured so far xD

We have a dedicated DST server for members of the discord but it's located in Australia. Not sure whether that would be good or bad for you.

I'm on day 5000 and still enjoying the game
