  • TORQUAY DEVON | Full tour of the seaside holiday town of Torquay
We love a visit to Torquay. It's one of our favourite travel and tourism destinations in the UK.
With great beaches, a fantastic harbour and stunning scenery, you can have a great trip here and have a great time. We take a walking tour along the beach and seafront to show you how great it is.
Torquay is a popular seaside town located on the English Riviera in Devon, England. Known for its beautiful coastline, mild climate, and various attractions, Torquay offers a mix of natural beauty, cultural experiences, and recreational activities. As of my last update in September 2021, here are some of the main attractions in Torquay:
Torquay Harbour: The bustling harbor is a central attraction, offering stunning views, boats, and a variety of shops, cafes, and restaurants along the waterfront.
Kents Cavern Prehistoric Caves: These ancient limestone caves are a popular attraction, offering guided tours that delve into the history and geology of the area.
Babbacombe Model Village: This miniature village showcases intricately detailed models of famous landmarks and buildings, set within beautifully landscaped gardens.
Living Coasts: A coastal zoo and aquarium that focuses on marine life. It's a great place to learn about and observe various sea creatures.
Princess Theatre: This historic theater hosts a variety of performances, including plays, musicals, comedy shows, and live music.
Cockington Country Park: A charming park with picturesque thatched cottages, craft studios, tea rooms, and peaceful gardens. It's a great place for leisurely walks.
Babbacombe Cliff Railway: This funicular railway offers stunning views as it takes you down the cliffs to Oddicombe Beach.
Torre Abbey: A historic building that houses an art gallery, museum, and beautiful gardens. The abbey has a rich history dating back to the 12th century.
Beaches: Torquay boasts several sandy beaches, including Torre Abbey Sands and Meadfoot Beach, where visitors can relax, swim, and enjoy water sports.
Torquay Museum: This museum features exhibits on local history, natural history, and archaeology, including artifacts from the area's past.
South West Coast Path: For nature enthusiasts and hikers, the South West Coast Path offers stunning walks along the coastline, providing breathtaking views.
Waves Leisure Pool: A family-friendly water park with indoor pools, slides, and play areas, ideal for a day of fun with children.

Torquay looks beautiful. I've never visited it and it's not as I imagined, it's much more.

It’s a dump. I live there. It’s full of druggies and boarded up shops and drunks fighting in the street. You are deluded!

Well, I took my family to Torquay for the day last week 29th October 2023, I hadn’t been there since 1984, where I spent a weekend with my mates in a magical place, it was quite a cosmopolitan place then wealthy and vibrant with a lovely shopping centre and bars, so I had sold this place to my wife and son with his partner and our grandson who had never been before, the reality of our visit was far removed my my visit 20 years prior, it was full of what can only be described as junkies, the shops were all boarded up or charity shops run down town centre and everyone looked like they didn’t have two pennies to rub together, what a shame we kept getting approached by junky beggars glad it was only for a day, we will never go Back its a dump.

There is something so relaxing ,calming & peaceful about these seaside towns, The waves, the breeze & sound of seagulls. I wish I could move to England today, I'm living in the hot & humid south in America

I live here in Torquay and believe me when I say this the harbour at the bottom of town is peaceful. However if you walk into town in the evening prepare for homeless, druggies, drunks to bother you or even get aggressive for no reason. Just be careful.

I’m from England, and I cant stand hot and humid weather either. The thing is, we don’t have any air conditioning in our homes here, only very few do. And our homes are designed to keep the heat in, because of our long and cold winters. Which makes them especially hot in the summer. I don’t think you will be able to bear it here either in the summer. It gets exceedingly hot in homes and buildings, sleeping at night is also a nightmare with no air con in the summer.

I visited Torquay a couple of times in the sixties with my parents and went to see a few shows. I remember more the walk down through the park. We also visited Paignton (could have been a Pontins holiday camp near there).

This was very interesting, very enjoyable to see. My interest stems from the fact i spent family holidays in my early teen years several years in succession way back in the early to mid 70's and I've always had an affection for Torquay, Torbay in general ever since, it has had a lasting 'good feel' about it always which has stayed with me. We stayed in Babbacombe to be precise on those summer trips and it's been my wish to one day revisit the area to see how it looks nowadays. Parents are no longer with me of course but i have finally booked to go there end of March to retrace those fabulous childhood memories albeit if the place doesnt quite look it does nowadays as it does back then to in my mind's eye, but there again nothing does, including myself! :) So your video was very revealing ahead of my nostalgic journey, thank you for it and I am looking forward to finally getting back there. Perhaps i will follow up this message after i do. Very well done.

The bird at 23:27 looks like a Cormorant. Not entirely sure though. There are plenty of them in the town I come from in Portugal. By the way, the town I am talking about is called Tomar, and it's beautiful. Worth a gimbal walk there maybe :)

I have been to Torquay on three separate occasions and different times of the year.
Parts of Torquay are very nice and the Marina is very nice.
The people are very friendly and social in the parts I visited
The town shopping area is not at its best.
I would not say it was the English Rivera, but that’s my personal opinion and there are many people who love and visit here many times.
I however would not visit a fourth time.
There are other resorts, not to far away to visit too.

Holidayed here in the early eighties when it was it in it's hey-day. Went back last weekend, won't be going back. Very rowdy after 7 -8 o'clock at night, cars racing each other, lots of shops closed down, rubbish everywhere, lots of homeless people, got intimidated by gangs of teenagers. If you like drinking this is the place for you. Lots of bars and 'restaurants'. Shame this vlogger didn't venture into the shopping centre. Shopping mall now half empty
