      dont go into a goofy movie expecting this level of emotion. a goofy movie is truly awesome but for different reasons, its a true comedy, it has a bunch of songs and goofy moments, it also has every cliche and qwerk from evey 90s movie, it is not timeless at all.

      ***** JackassJunior627
      don't you think that that would've been too predictable? I mean you see it a lot in movies; bad-but-good-guy fighting of the really-really-bad-guy. I dunno. I thought the fight scene with Scroop and Jim was pretty intense.
      And dont you think its nice how it's not just black and white in Treasure Planet?
      Like, you see the real people beneath the labels of VILLAIN and HERO; how "heroes" sometimes slip up, and "bad guys" act heroic. Disney doesn't do that often.

      +JackassJunior627 He's more of an anti-villain. Plus, the real villain is arguably Nathaniel Flint since his greed is what causes the plot in the first place.

    • @hopesy12u4
      @hopesy12u4 8 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      jacoblgames but he's not active in the main plot, not really. It's like, a bunch of Nazis beat a guy up and we say that Hitler is the villain. Okay, maybe not the best example. I do see what you're saying, though; Flint's a real piece of work, he was a problem when he was alive, and a problem in his death.

    This hits me so hard, because up until this point Jim has been very independent and innovative on his own. He is aloof and sarcastic, and anxious to prove himself. But then he shows a moment of weakness in front of Silver, literally leaning on him and crying, and you can just see how broken this boy is, and how much Silver means to him as a father figure and friend. It’s true and wonderful.

      Sorell pilgram I think the effects work well enough. The cgi is so flawlessly seamed I never even realized there was cgi until recently watching an editorial. There is this charm that shows through how everyone who worked on it really pulled 200%. I do agree a rerelease would be awesome. Unfortunately I can’t see Disney doing that, unless there was a petition or some convincing that enough people would go see it. I only say that since I’ve only seen Disney rereleasing their most successful films.

    Those of us who grew up without fathers often search or stumble upon father figures throughout our lives. MY father was never there. But the relationship Jim and SIlver had is very similar to the one I had with my business teacher. Like Jim i was SO disappointed and came to his office crying, and he sat me down, and gave me the best advice, he was a strict man, but i needed that discipline, he watched over me like a hawk cuz i was quite the rebellious teen. Even though my mother is the best, everyone needs a father figure in their lives, you just can't replace it man.

    When we got to see Silver up in the clouds watching over Jim at the end, it really hit everything home about the Captain.
    Silver dedicated his life to finding a treasure he longed for. As more wealth is collected for that treasure, the more worth it has.

    I'd like to think all of Flint's crew weren't all murderous blackhearts. Piracy was often a refuge for the downtrodden and hardluck people who couldn't cut an honest trade for reasons. This version of Silver seems like he was one of those types, fell on hard times, became a pirate, lost himself along the way but still had that spark of humanity that was brought back out during the lull between Flint's death and meeting Jim

    I have Asperger's Syndrome and most of the time, it's hard to understand instruction when my thought process is going a million miles an hour. Most of the time, I screw up and beat myself up over it. You just feel like a failure and a burden to anyone around you. It's also when you're too awkward to properly fit into society so, you're left to be by yourself.
    Sometimes, a little encouragement and a ''things will be okay...Let's make tomorrow a better day,'' is what you need to hear.

      I understand this perfectly but from the perspective of Long John Silver as oppose to Jim. My brother was diagnosed with autism when he was three ( I was five at the time). He found communication incredibly difficult and struggled to formulate a full sentence until the age of six, he simply repeated odd words and phrases and spoke in tongues for the most part. My mam told me that when he were both little I would often translate for him and the only person he really talked to at any sort of length was me. He's improved a lot over the years and can speak perfectly to pretty much anyone now, which is great considering he struggled to speak to our parents for the longest time.
      Now he's going through puberty and he recently started to feel really self conscious about the way he spoke and that he thought he annoyed people, us included, whenever he opened his mouth. I told him that when he was younger none of our family thought they would ever be able to have a conversation with him in the way that we have them with him today, and that every word that he says is a blessing to us, even if we may not always express it openly.
      Now he's preparing for his GCSE's (I don't know if you're from the UK, but they're basically the tests you do at the end of secondary school that affect your possibilities of getting on certain courses at college or getting job opportunities) and he's really nervous about them. I've told him that it's perfectly fine to feel like that, as it shows he cares (I honestly wish I had cared in the same way when I was at school) and that he should want to be successful, but ultimately his results don't define him. I'd much rather he leave school as a decent person and see him operate productively in the world around him, having tried his best, regardless of the outcome of those tests, than to see him leave having not tried because he thought it futile or to have left with all the qualifications necessary without having the social skills to find his way through college or a workplace.
      I love my brother and to see how confident he is now fills me with pride, but more importantly it gives me hope that when he leaves school and goes onto college or work he'll be able to operate independently.
      I can only hope I'll be there so I can catch some of the light coming off him that day.

    • @Shadywolf09
      @Shadywolf09 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      John O'Phelan I am not based in UK, however, I do know the educational steps for things and how things are done over there. Your brother is very lucky to have good people around him and allow him to be himself. We all make mistakes, as hard as we try, mistakes can happen. You keep trying until you succeed.
      I don't know much about the social aspect of life (I shut myself off from everyone and stay inside) but, I do excel in being an academic. Having a scholarship, a 3.16 GPA, and a good work ethic, I plan on moving to London in order to attend Queen Mary, University of London. My transfer credits will go through since the university in Nevada works with international schools, Queen Mary, especially.
      I feel like being a student and continuing education is all I know how to do. With everything else, I fall short. I cannot drive, I don't date (emotional connection cannot be done. That part of my brain is shut off) and being around people heighten my anxiety level.

    • @kendragon2012
      @kendragon2012 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Don't ever underestimate the power of emotional intelligence. The fact that you're aware of the fact that sometimes your mind is telling you that you are a failure, but its really just that you might have picked up on some ambiguous information incorrectly, has power in itself. Knowing this is a possibility will help you stay grounded when your brain is either wrong or out and out lying to you and will ultimately help you keep your 'own course'. You'll probably find things difficult along the way but nothing worth having ever came easy. True?

      Same. Also have Asperger's Syndrome. Generally try to get around those feelings by reminding myself that it's technically not my fault the wiring in my brain is so messed up. Does not always work...if only because I am a rabid perfectionist and hold myself to a very high standard. If I fail it is because I am not trying hard enough. That's what the inner perfectionist keeps yelling at me every time I screw up, at least.
      The condition runs in my family, oddly enough. I have it. My grandfather has it. One of my cousins has it. According to my grandfather's stories one of *his* grandparents also showed signs of having it though they were never diagnosed. It skips generations. So in my family, at least, there seems to be a genetic component...meaning it REALLY isn't my fault that I'm like this!

All films today are CGI rendered, not saying it's entirely a bad thing, but the magic of 2D paper / digitally drawn animation will always have this sense of love and happiness that surrounds it- just as it surrounds Treasure Planet. Yeah, animation like this may cost a fortune to produce now-a-days, but it goes without saying that you, I, and many others would enjoy seeing an original 2D Disney or Dreamworks film. Silver put up a front when it came to his crew, but the man isn't as evil as he thought he was. I think that's just men in general. When another man, or young man in James' case, comes to you looking for guidance, it's humbling. Some of the realest, most down-to-earth advice I've ever received or given was when someone else came to me in confidence and dropped the front. We're all human. Some of us more than others. But we all need some type of father figure to look up to.

    This came out a couple years before I was Jim’s age. A couple years later when we had it on dvd, my younger sister begged me to watch it with her while I was babysitting her. I didn’t want to at first because I was a 15 year old guy and thought I had better things to do. I didn’t know how much I’d relate to the film. Especially Jim. I had been really depressed for several years as a teenager and felt hopeless all the time. My dad left when I 5 and I couldn’t help but blame myself. When I saw this scene, I actually shed a tear because it was what I had always wanted to hear from my dad, or anyone, for that matter. My little sister asked if I was okay and I just claimed that something was in my eye, but this scene really helped me at the time, even though I didn’t even grow up with it.

I have been going through a bit of depression because I only have one year in high school left and I have a really bad fear of the unknown, in this case, after high school. Silver really tells you that you can control your own destiny and to stick to your gut no matter what, and that really gave me the confidence to face my fears, and to make my life how I want it to be :)

    *weeps for the loss of the 2D departments* gaugh, it's so upsetting; Disney was doing so great they were MASTERING the art of 2D animation; no one else has even gotten CLOSE to what they've done. the subtlety of the lines, the careful shifts of expressions and movement of the characters with perspective - GAAHH- we lost so much opportunity when they made the 180 switch to 3D! I mean we have made some good (great) movies with the 3D ones by Disney (Moana, Zootopia, Tangled) but uugghh I can't help but think of what kind of animation we missed out on by eliminating it to the degree they did. any time i see test 2D animations for 3D movies like Frozen or Moana that are floating around, I can't help but feel upset because the characterization with the 2D models is just SO MUCH BETTER; why can't Disney see this?
    One of the best, most intricate, beautifully animated Disney movies and yet so underrated. Love this movie

    • @pinkcrazygirl

    • @AJR-zg2py
      @AJR-zg2py 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      The problem is that the public simply wasn't buying it anymore - during this time, all the 2D features from the big studios were tanking and losing money yet the vast majority of their 3D animated movies were making serious bank. I love Atlantis, Treasure Planet, Road to El Dorado, Prince of Egypt... but they were getting destroyed by 3D animation at the box office.

      +Killjoy45 My dad would do the same.
      My old man's heard me out so many times, no matter how I felt. His defining moment was when I had to deal with some drama on here a few years ago - a friendship ended rather badly and I felt as though everything was my own doing (it wasn't, thank God - it was about 98% some idiot's fault and 2% mine - the 2% was due to bad timing on my part) and he was outside the door of my room, listening to what I had to say (I didn't want him in there, because I was a wreck). He heard just about everything I had in my mind, and whether what that idiot implied was true - I was a really bad person for letting it happen (I have NO intention of starting fights, and I never will). My father didn't even pry or ask for more details. He just let me continue with what I had to say, gave me time to collect my thoughts and to stop crying.
      It took me months to recover from what had happened, but my old man hearing me out really helped. Looking back, that idiot made me feel this way, made me feel it was my fault and never even apologized for it. If I did the same thing, I'll be very apologetic very quickly.
      My biggest issue right now is I always feel horrible if I screw up really bad, try to fix it and it doesn't turn out right, despite my intentions. That is when I start going "I can never do anything right." To have someone hear me out means I'm more likely to banish those thoughts and feel better.
      My dad was a good father figure. And I'm proud to call him my father.
