    The local high school sold off the metal and woodshop in the 80's. I bought all the heavy equipment from WWII for a few cents over scrap value and it's still running in my plant... Now it's 2020 and my son is in the high school shop class - they got rid of the computer lab and brought the tools back! Rare event in an era of such stupidity. Well, he has been in my "Shop" class since 3rd grade, and could be the substitute teacher. It's a little dumbed down, but far better than pushing a mouse. Now I am in your shop class online, and discovering much that I forgot or never had time to indulge in. Great work!

    Great video, I bought a BC bandsaw and the piece is broken in the exact place as well.
    The prior owner used a small c clamp to keep it together.

    You said, "no one will need to do this". But actually I am now emboldened to have a go at making upper and lower guides for my school's Brodhead-Garrett saw. If I'm successful, I can save the price of having the Carter people custom make theirs for me. There are no metal working facilities at my school, but since the saw is used exclusively for cutting wood, I think the wooden "mock-up" will be adequate. Thank you for the inspiration.

      I bought a cheap band saw from Menards. I used those wheels, but there was some modification needed.

    Great Video Mr. Pete! Very informative and i Absolutely Love hearing about your shop tools you, used to make and have your students make. I wish schools still taught like you did. Maybe people would still be more hands on rather than throwing everything away these days. I try to fix all of my broken things. If i cant fix it well at least i know i tried before having to buy another or paying someone else for the repair. Thanks so much for all your hard work and Great Editing! God Bless you Sir, hope you have a wonderful day.

    Nice work on your replacement part. Far superior to the original. I just bought a bearing cap for my Doall refurb project. (Video series) $8 plus shipping! Eighty years of Inflation. 😆. Good point on lighting. Continually working to improve my camera work. Tc, your neighbor in the next state west, Mike

    Use an eccentric for the thrust race, drill and tap the retaining screw hole. Make the eccentric the length of the guide block, a screw driver slot in the back end to aid in rotation, then tighten the setscrew you mentioned.

    Always great videos. I sometimes wonder why more people don't install Carter blade guides. 30 years ago I helped convert a 20" Powermatic to a friction saw and we installed Carter guides. Ever since then all my saws get an immediate conversion. Carter's are fully adjustable ball bearing guides.

    Zinc and pot metal are two different things. It's just any random combination of non-ferrous metals thrown together.

    I'm one of those guys that need to be more consistent with my lighting in my videos. Actually with all the cameras I have,, all consumer grade,,, my iphone gives me the best results in focus, lighting, the whole ball of wax.

    • @mrpete222
      @mrpete222  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, they are good cameras. I have no good way to transfer the videos to the computer. If I hook my iPhone to the computer with a cable, learn all the bad stuff starts. Pop ups, crazy Apple store nonsense. And sometimes I am never able to actually get the videos. Other than to email them to myself. But they are too large for that

    If i wanted to duplicate the guard, i would have made a copy from Styrofoam and made a lost form cast. If the looks are not so important simply poured the aluminum on the foam.
    If i had to make more than one i would made a 3D model and 3D printed it hollow and done the lost form cast with that.
