I was in the grinding industry for 40 years , from sharpening saws in my dad's garage shop to tool and cutter grinding . Retired in 2012 due to health problems , watch your videos all the time

I love old and antique equipment. As they say "They don't make things like they used to." I have a 1938 Singer industrial sewing machine that I use to do leather work. It looks pretty bad as most of the paint is worn off, but I can't imagine what went through the machine during WWII. It's 16 years older than I am but mechanically it's perfectly functional. The thread tensioner was worn out but I did find a company that sells new parts for the old machines. I like your videos that you call 'edutainment'. They are quite informative and I must never stop learning things.

I truly enjoy your videos even at my young age I an enthralled with machines and complex or simple mechanisms and with my limited physical resources these videos help me learn new ways of doing things and learn metal machining. Thank You, Justin

G’day Lyle, your modified guide works a treat, well done and well presented. You mentioned in part 1 that we’re probably sick and tired of hearing you talk about Peterson Products but I’m not, actually I’d like to see you make the bandsaw as you don’t have enough, maybe auction it off for charity.
    Cheers
    Peter

I made a set of aluminum trammels to except a piece of 3/8" square stock. I laid out the holes drilled 1/8" holes in all four corners then drilled a 3/8" center hole then pressed a piece of square stock through it. My daughter told me when she was in school "5 out of 4 people have trouble with fractions" i hope i never forget that one. Love that humor "maybe i am breaking the law"

Five out of war, that’s funny. Actually, fractions seem so simple to me

I just saw your channel this morning for the 1st time while my husband was watching TH-cam. Don't know exactly which program it was. You had gone to an auction. Then later went thru boxes showing what you had bought. I know you said for no one in La la land to ask to buy anything. Lol but I was so excited when you pulled out a camera from 1957 u said. My dad had the same camera & he took it with him to Korean war. Yours had the flash attachment. I still have his & wouldn't take nothing for it. His didnt have the flash. Wish it did. You also went thru boxes of wrenches. Tons of old tools you kept saying was junk & would throw away. Wish I was close by I would love to be able to get lots of old tools. I make all kinds of stuff from old stuff. It's so popular now you could sell it. Hate for it to thrown away. I want to make a big gate with nothing but old tools. So far I only have a bucketful. I seen one someone else did & it was awesome. Sure wish I could find someone like you who goes to auctions. Sure like your shop & your channel. I have a real big shop I so enjoy. Been doing all kinds of signs & painting for 43 yrs. It's my passion . Love RUTHIE

I'm glad you found my journal. I have over 1000 videos. Sorry to tell you this. I had that exact exact camera when I was 13. Are used to like it I don't know what happened to it. I tried to give that camera and flash away but people laughed at me. I was forced to picture. All of those rusty tools are not salable in this area. You need to go auction auctioning yourself. There is an unlimited amount of stuff out there

Thank you for the scriber, is that a new design? Will that be a part of your regular offerings? Again I like that hex stock so it won't roll. The drill grinder arrived in perfect condition. I watch that video. I knew that would be a difficult project for you or for anyone

    • @RRINTHESHOP
      @RRINTHESHOP 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@mrpete222 Yes on the scribe, I put up a video today about it. That was very hard to model. I don't think I would want to make one. Even making a casting would be tough. Thank you for loaning me the parts. Kept me out of the bars.

Thank you , Mr. Pete. The effort you go through to make these videos is much appreciated. When you mill slots, do you use an undersized endmill and then, widen the slot to final dimension by running the endmill down each side of the slot? I was taught to do it that way and not start with an endmill of the desired dimension of the finished slot. I see people doing it both ways.

Taller workbench is a plus for seeing particulars and comfort. It amazes me how many farmers have nice shops and work on the floor in them and don't even have a table to work on, and if they do its covered in JUNK..of course, they need to do more in those shops that harbor the beer fridge.

That gearbox probably has the same design as my 1920s Racine Machine & Tool bandsaw. Mine also has the lever and has a pin to mesh the inner shaft to the pulley. Inside mine is 4 gears (drive pinion, idler gear, idler pinion, and driven gear). The lever causes the idler shaft to move toward the drive shaft so the two sets of gears mesh.

In 55 years in the shop I may have tilted the table on a metal cutting band saw once for a job. But it is handy to have the tilting feature to make sure the saw is cutting square.
The more important feature is to have a blade welder on the saw so you can easily do internal cuts thus making usable slugs instead wasting all day making a pile of chips at the mill or lathe.

Hi Pete great video. Do you have a video on changing the wheels. I have the same saw and need to upgrade the wheels. If not which wheels did you use?

If you milled a slot in the two key steel guides, you could have a small bolt passing right through into the bottom, it might be a bit stronger.

Make the bevel cut for thinner blades on the other side of the blade guides that you currently have. When you switch blades, flip the blade guides around.

Hi - Check out this rechargeable battery ripoff - - Unblelievable - no lengths they wont go to in misleading the public. A real full size rechargeable D cells mAh capacity should be around 8,000 mAh, but by using plastic spacers and smaller batteries in side both Duracell and Eveready Energizer sells a 2,200 mAh battery in a case that could be 4 times the mAh size -but im betting its sold at the full size mAh price. link>>

Just as a note of curiosity. Why couldn’t the guides be round ? Then instead of broaching, you simply drill a hole.

A perfectly serviceable blade guide that should last for as long as you need it. Making something like that from pot metal is just not acceptable, always results in cracks, stripped threads, and now in your case a more practical and durable design-!
