What I find interesting is, a few batters have had a chance of overtaking Sachin's record like Cook, Sanga and now Root. But no bowler has come even remotely close to overtaking Muralidharan's record. Anderson played till 42 and never really had a realistic chance. I feel Murali is a bit underrated for someone who's an undisputed GOAT contender. It's clear his records will last way longer than Sachin's.
the only country that plays enough tests for that is England, and we don't have the quality nor need for a spinner to be that good at home at least
@@aaravn08Yes, the game evolved in such a way that it became much easier in terms of batting and more challenging in terms of bowling. Come Doomsday/Armageddon, I'm pretty sure Murali's major records will remain intact.
I think there's a few factors here. One is that the game is becoming higher scoring and played at a faster pace. We're going to see a lot of batting records fall in the coming years.
Then you have the type of bowler. Spinners can keep going over after over. The strike rate for Murali and Jimmy was fairly similar, but Murali bowled 4000 more balls - about 10% - than Anderson despite Anderson playing 50 extra tests. The player who will beat that record will likely be a spinner from a country where pitches favour spin. Every batsman in the world is aiming for Sachin's figures, while the only people with a chance at the bowling record are the one or two best spinners for India and Sri Lanka.
And finally you have a key difference between batting and bowling. Batsmen compete against the other team. A batsman in a dominant team can score highly match after match. Bowlers compete against the other team AND their teammates for wickets. You can only take 10 wickets in an innings. If you're playing with three outstanding bowlers, they have to share those 10 wickets. Murali took four or more wickets in nearly half of the test innings played. Very few of the best international teams had such a dependency on one man for so long. Before anyone replies - I'm not saying that other Sri Lanka bowlers were bad - just that Muralidharan was in my opinion much better.
So yes, Muralidharan is one of the all time greats, but in cases like this how long a record stands doesn't tell the full story.
I appreciate the 3rd umpire and technology but worry how that this effects records.
T20 pal you don't see much test cricket now it's all t20 t10
Surely the big gain from that match was the performance of Carse. I do believe, with Archer and Wood fit, and Atkinson maturing, we could have a quartet of quickies able to have a really good go at The Aussies in the next Ashes series in Australia. That's if all 4 stay fit - The Big If.
Yess. Specially the uncertainty with Archer always risky. No one will trust him untill he is on the mark with red ball in hand.
Mark wood will be 36-37 age by then. He has 1-2 years.
Also Atkinson has now less pace. He is bowling in pak 133-137.
Bowling 140+ does not mean evrything.
Still huge bandgap with Aus trio.
@@arpanbera7655Atkinson is capable of bowling 145 plus in Australia. It's just because he is bowling in Pakistan he is holding himself back.
The key is preparation, England need atleast 3-4 warm up games otherwise they don’t stand a chance
Australia 4 or 5 nil as usual
😂😂😂😂
Joe Root may beat Sachin statistically but it’s impossible to beat his greatness. 3 test centuries in England & Australia by age 19 against senior bowlers. The aura and the fanfare he had was amazing. Sachin is a Legend.
He scored only 1 Test century prior to him turning 18.
@@chriswatson7965 2 added when before 19. Still quite an achievement to score centuries in Old trafford, Perth & Sydney. Not to belittle Joe. He’s a great player as well.
Sachin did it under enormous expectation as well... cricket is religion in India it's definitely not in England
@@sln7839 It is. I went through the stats and Tendulkar was the youngest to get 3 to 10 centuries. Mushtaq Mohammad was the youngest to get 2, and Bradman the youngest to get 11. Mushtaq got his at Delhi and Nottingham.
Joe Root towers over the little man. In a class of his own.
In 3 years time people will be asking "Will Joe Root pass 20,000 runs?"

When England scored 477 vs India in Chennai in 2016, India still won so it's bit unfair of Butcher to say that only England can pull-off something like this. India and Ozs have mindsets like that.
I agree even the Kanpur test was a testament and not so long ago.
I do agree that it's a little unfair but I think the point is that to beat a score of 550 you need to score at an insanely high RR to give yourself a realistic chance and no top team has really done that in the same way this england team does, I dont think it's necessarily about the mindset or skill more the style of this team
@@edford3354 Yup! Full credit to England and there is no doubt that the Baz-Ben era has changed the english way of playing. Just like what Nass had done in the late 90s
@@edford3354 - I think you are forgetting Adelaide in 2006-7. England got 551, Australia got less in reply without smashing it, then England collapsed and Australia chased 160 odd.

Root Wants More Series With Pak Because He Want To Break Sachin Record 😂

@@itzsimple7640 😂
If England play more test series in Pakistan, even Brook will break Root's record eventually.
I think it should be put in this way...Pakistan could be the only team in the history of the game to lose the match after scoring 500 runs
No - England managed it in 2006-7 at Adelaide after scoring 551.
I believe the ASHES series will be key to Joe Root's future of breaking Sachin's record
I think even if he has a modest Ashes series next winter by the standards he’s setting today, he’ll carry on well beyond 2025-26. If he carries on playing for England till he’s 38 or 39, form and fitness permitting, then he’s got 2 Ashes tours left in him.
I think that if Root hadn't been made captain he'd have had perhaps 1-2000 more runs by now. It seems a common occurrence that a batsman's performance suffers when they shoulder the responsibility of leading the team - it happened with Virat Kohli and Alistair Cook, and doubtless others.
Alistair Cook could have if he didnt retire early 😢
Root has been in such unreal form yet Root's stats in the last 2 years in test cricket are still far less than Kohli's stats in 2016-18. Time and again we are reminded, how godly form Kohli had in those 28 months or so. No one will ever be able to match that peak.
Root averages 51.5 now, Kohli is 48...
@@321Adi123 In test cricket, Root will definitely be rated above Kohli, at least for now. Specially considering the fact Root has played close to 150 tests, maintaining that average till 150 tests takes a lot. Kudos to Root. If he plays for another 5 years, Sachin's record can definitely be broken.
I think he can if he can continue the same form for next five years
Root = mental concentration. Watch the ball.
Root can break sachin record , but depends on his fitness and consistency for coming years
Yep, and if he’s consistent
All he need is 3-4 years of 1k runs, and england plays many tests regularly more then any team
Root may break the record, but Sachin is still the overall GOAT, dealt with better bowlers and more pressure
Agree there. Sachin played his test career over a long period when the attacks he faced from 16 onwards boasted the quality of McGrath and Warne, Anderson and Broad, Marshall, Ambrose and Walsh, Donald, Pollock and Steyn, Vaas and Murali and Wasim and Waqar. Fewer test teams today can boast quality attacks such as these other than I’d say the current Aussie quartet.
i think he can surely, if we assume joe root played age 37 or 38 ,now he is 33.he need to score 3257 runs more in 4 years or 5 years .And england will play lot of test matches
The quality of the bowling that sachin faced was far superior than what root has had to face for most of his career…the bowling averages don’t lie
maybe but the pitches in Sachins time were easier - way more 500 scores, nowadays last 7 years its way more bowler friendly.
Root need atleast 2 more purple patch seasons atleast then he will be on the verge of the sachin,s record
No he dont😂😂😂 he need 1k every year for next 3-4 years and he has done it, keep in mind he could score 2k+ in a dingle year like 2021
@@itzsimple7640zip his trousers up after you're done mate
@itzsimple7640 it's Single BTW not "Dingle"
I think Root will overtake Tendulkar's record, and will be one of the greats to have played the game. However, the quality of the bowlers in the era of Tendulkar & Root is what we need to assess. There are hardly a handful of quality test bowlers currently. However, 20 years ago each test playing nation had 2-3 quality bowlers. So Sachin Tendulkar will be GOAT. If anyone thinks otherwise, ignorance is a bliss
Sir Joseph Edward Root ❤
Am definitely looking forward to see him pass Sachin Tendulkar inshallah he will
The major factor will be which teams he plays against, considering the likes of Australia and India will definitely pose a challenge.
Good to see Mark. 😊
No other test team compares when it comes to flat track bullying! The reason we haven't been beaten after conceding 500+ is that we do it better!
6/over is mind boggling. They earned time back to win going at that rate.
0 centuries in Australia!!! Joe is a great player, statistically may better Sachin, that’s be the only talking point.
Warne was rubbish in india
Everything must be factored in when saying who the greatest is, total runs, opposition, home and away record, performing under pressure, style of play.
He's a class act, there's no doubt about that, but having said that, I must ask one question to butcher, tell me something about joe roots record in Australia
Ponting averages 26 in India, tell me something about that - or Kohlis 30 average in England or Dravid in Australia (ave 30)
Look at the averages against the top opposition , and youwill see that Rahul Dravid had a better test average .
Will easily overtake Tendly if this form continues. Also playing a yearly 5 test series in Pakistan will ease it further.
Ask Root to face those bowlers that Sachin had faced to score those runs
