  • We flew coach with American Airlines from Charleston, SC to Honolulu, HI. It was one of the longest travel days EVER! We started at 11am EST with a beer and cider at the airport bar. Then ended at Hale Koa hotel in Hawaii at about midnight which would have been around 5am back home. We were TIRED and HUNGRY LOL.
    While we didn't have too many issues, no major delays or cancellations, we didn't really have any time in between flights to grab real food. So, we survived on cheezits and complimentary plane snacks. With two connections and flights over 5 hours, I wish there had been an in flight meal...or at least an option for a basic sandwich but I guess they don't do that anymore? After landing we grabbed our luggage and a ride from Hawaii 23 shuttle service. It was an easy and affordable ($33) experience with just a quick 20 min drive over to the resort. When we checked into the hotel we immediately placed an order at "Oh My Grill" in Waikiki with Uber Eats. It was a decent meal of fried chicken and fish with some traditional macaroni salad...truly we couldn't complain and we were so thankful they were open after midnight!
    After a long day we were happy to be checked in and horizontal in bed lol Time to rest and get ready for some hawaiian adventures! Thanks for traveling with us! See you on the next one when we explore Oahu!

    I recommend the Ilima Tower, especially when staying in a Deluxe Oceanfront Room. It is much closer to the ocean, and you don’t have to go out on the balcony to view the ocean. A room on the Hilton side of the Ilima Tower also has the best view, especially for the Friday night fireworks.

      We both agreed that if we spend the money on that category room again we would request the Ilima tower to get that experience. This was our first time visiting hale koa so we were blissfully unaware (but still had a wonderful time!) When we realized we wouldn’t be able to see fireworks we went down to the beach and watched from the sand. Thank you for confirming our thoughts! One day we will try for the other tower 😁

      Compared to our little Charleston airport it is absolutely insane 😆

    how was OMG's version of the garlic chicken ??? there are many places here that make it and put a twist on its taste, so really it would be hard to say which place has DA BEST unless one ate at all the places that serve it !

      Tim said he really liked it! His only complaint was that it was A LOT of garlic and with the amount of chicken in his portion he couldn’t finish it bc the garlic overwhelmed him 😂 “Too much garlic” is a subjective complaint though 😆

      We wanted to fly Hawaiian (at least for part of the trip) but we had AA miles to cover almost the entire journey for this trip. Thats good to know you get a meal with them because we were so hungry by the end of this day! We will definitely look into Hawaiian next time. Thank you!

    We just got back from Hale Koa a week or two ago, stayed in a Deluxe Ocean View and the view from the room was stunning. Also, do not miss the Magic Show with Mark, he’s beyond amazing AND the Luau is another experience not to miss. Heading back in a few months and will try an ocean view room versus the deluxe ocean view just to compare and save a few dollars (well more then a few;)

      We must have JUST missed each other but it sounds like you had a great time! We missed out on the magic show as we checked in very late the night of the show so we will definitely prioritize that next time. The luau was excellent! We really enjoyed everything they offered from the pre show activities to the food and performances. I think we will also do the same next visit and try an ocean view instead of ocean front just to see how we like it (and YES, to save money also haha) Good to hear from you, Lou!

      @@battlegroundbiscuits yes, saving a little money IS important too, I’m think the difference between the Deluxe Ocean View and the Ocean View Room is the cost AND we might have to lean slightly on our Lanai’s to see the Pacific Ocean and Waikiki;) looking forward to the rest of your videos! Aloha from Maine:)

    Did she say $375 a night?? That’s the military rate???

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😆 yes you heard correct BUT we stayed in an ocean front deluxe room for our visit since we’re celebrating some milestones this year. A standard room is around $165….and it’s all tax free of course.

    • @louc8782
      @louc8782 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Absolutely, we paid $390.00 because we took our adult daughter with us, so it was 15 dollars more for her per night. But it was a true ocean view.

    • @julieb7882
      @julieb7882 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rates are also based on rank . Lower for enlisted higher for general or admiral.

    • @louc8782
      @louc8782 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@julieb7882 not on the Deluxe Ocean View, it’s one rate for all of us military or former military. The ocean, partial and other views are based on rank or disability ratings. We just got back a few weeks ago and we stayed in the Deluxe Ocean View and that’s what it costs. Already booked our next one and will save some money by just staying in an ocean view room. We really enjoyed our stay.

    • @battlegroundbiscuits
      @battlegroundbiscuits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@julieb7882 you are correct! However, I’ll add that the exception is with this particular category. The ocean front deluxe category rooms are a flat $375 for tiers I, II and III…and that price increases to $399 for tier IV.
      As for Shades of Green, they use the same pricing scale for standard rooms (based on rank) but the suites are all one flat rate regardless of rank.
      Still nice that the afrc resorts offer the flex pricing!
