In the UK, we still use Miles and Yards, mainly on our road networks. I generally use the metric system but often work with people who use the Imperial system. I hope you enjoy Canada Day.
My dad had an 026 when I was a kid. We cuts lots of firewood with the 50 cc beast! We wore out countless bars and it always started and was good to go! My brother got the saw and still uses it! I’m 70 and I think my dad bought it when I was a teen. I’m looking for an 026 to use when I’m too tired to use my 372xp or the 395! 026 heck of a saw!😊
I have a Husky 435 which is a great little saw. Starts and runs every time. But since I acquired two 036 Pro Stihl’s and rebuilt them, it’s like a different world. They are great saws.
Ultra sonic cleaners actually self heat. A heater speeds it up but isn’t really required. As for using flammable solvents, never fill the tank completely with them. Putting them in containers in water is not approved by any safety standards, but I have done it. Another thing to know is the parts really need a clean line of sight to the transducer. The pressure waves are blocked by other objects metal will transfer most of it as it doesn’t compress but one plastic part will completely block another so it is only receiving a hot soak. Flipping parts is useful. They work by creating bubbles in the low pressure part of wave, then when pressure equalizes those bubbles collapse at the speed of sound and fire a tiny ultra high speed jet at the surface knocking off dirt, and it can erode the material given enough time. Because of this action you really don’t want to use a foamy type soap. You want a surfactant. Straight water, a car wash soap, simple green and purple power are excellent choices. Straight water doesn’t have a chemical cleaning component, but works great for dirt, dust, and static attracted particles. Oils and glues need a chemical to improve their performance.
Hey hey Tinman, thanks for all your continuous content always enjoy hangin out on your Chanel. I'm kinda old school, and like the old "0" saws best. I would run "0" cases till the wheels fall off, but would not hesitate to use flippy cap cases to make a run what you brung saw. Just never liked fliippy caps... have a great weekend..
Build a good saw a Tinman saw it will be great I did a 036 stihl cleans the loose paint off with a wire brush and put it together and it’s been doing great for three years so far thanks to you and the iron horse for the motivation.I understand the busy got my little Charlie he is turning 3 July 19 he is amazing. Keep it up I love the videos and so does my little guy Thank you Tin man
Better to repurpose the old cases that are corroded. That ultrasonic doohickey cleaner really does a great job. My buddy up north has one and we cleaned the old carb off my dad’s old 026. It turned out minty. Looking forward to this build.
026's are great little saws. Perfect for limbing and bucking small stuff. I ported one based on your principles and it's even better. Keep up the awesome work!
I couldn't tell the difference if you put newer cases on it or not. I just love watching you meake old saws great again. Make it a ripper, just my vote.
A year ago I sent you a 056Magnum II , I know not much use for a big saw in your little wood . Here out on the west coast my 365 is considered a small saw . 👍🇨🇦
Maybe someone has a donor 026 in their junk pile? That would be a kind gift to the channel. I think we can all agree the Tinman puts out some of the best content out there in youtube land and if your not using it, it would be a very nice gesture. If you feel those cases are good, I would run with them. Whoever gets this saw will not complain that is a gaarr'en'tee, it they do well then they are undeserving of a Tinman product... period. Ultrasonic cleaners are wonderful but if I'm breaking down a saw $4 at the car wash does wonders. A good soak with the engine clean, wash and rinse. Having said this I live close to a car wash😊. Maybe a investment/write off for the channel but if you haul water you will go through a lot more😂. Just my 2 cents for the day. Happy Canada day while we still can celebrate it. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙
That little bit of flaking kinda worried about but maybe with a little bit of sanding it might be fine. And if worried about the bottom you could always put a layer of jb weld to smooth it up a bit. Can't wait to see it together and running
Love your videos. My son worked at the university’s physics department lab. when I asked him about gasoline in ultrasonic cleaners he gave me a serious look and told me never to put gasoline directly into the ultrasonic cleaner the cavitation bubbles could potentially be hot enough to ignite the gasoline. Sounds like what you’re doing with the Jar is safer but you should still be ready to put out a fire.
I use a product called Eli-Fil. Comes in alu, steel and cast iron compound. Repaired alu casings and once cured, the finish is as hard and looks like alu. Can dril and tap new threads easy. Built a water alu manifold for my picup that pipe eroded away. Works very wel.
History of the saw and where she lived. Dissimilar metal corrosion. I used to work on Aircraft I saw it alot with salt water, magnesium, Aluminum, steel , titanium copper brass, salt changes the molecular structure of metal and here ya go.
Tinman it come clean 🧽 with time . Tks a million for your time and great videos . 😊 WISHING all a wonderful and safe Canada 🇨🇦 Day weekend with family and friends! 😊
Pretty meticulous with keeping my saws like new. Part of me would like to see cases jb the pits on the outside...clean the imperfections and 2k epoxy spray the outside of the cases. Purdy it up as part of the rebuild
Hey bro, I saw a few of your mosquitoes fly by on the video, do you use shotguns to kill them😂 Have you thought about feathering the bad paint in the crankcase and applying the appropriate epoxy paint to seal the surfaces from flaking? It would also seal up the smaller holes and pits from where the corrosion is happening. Just thinking about some sound repairs for that saw in case it comes my way...😂 Keep the shop life happening, but ALWAYS MAKE FAMILY FIRST!!!❤
HI TINMAN 😊😊 the chainsaw cases turn out good and clean that's clean alot better than what it was be 4 and the pull start rope W the nylon is better than the old saw rope stores have it 😊😊 OMG 6 28 2O24
Hi tinman i have a 30 liter ultrasonic cleaner and i can put a whole saw broken down in it. I stay away from simple green it reacts with aluminum. Mean green works great as with dawn. I use mine for everything❤
I'd say use the cases, I just had to make the same call on my 034 Super. It was just as bad and had a pin missing for the brake, I bought a pin and am going to make it work!
Original is nice if it functions, but mutts can do a lot of work. One thing to keep in mind with large ultrasonic cleaners is that they should not be run with a low fluid level even if you are only do a small part. the little units inside will burnout if the machine is run dry/low.
You know better than I but those cases look trashed. Just a comment to help grow the channel. Princess Auto having a sale today/tom. Hope you have a great Canada Day!
For me, those cases are too far gone. The actual crankcase is probably gas tight, but taken together, they're not worth the time investment to do a full rebuild. I'd look at the 260 cases and then make a decision. I once built an 026/MS260 hybrid for a mate. He was skint and had a dead 026 and a broken 260 and was borrowing my spare Husky. 260 top end and crank on 026 cases and 026 carb and it went like a train. So parts can be interchangeable. Use the best bits and it'll still be interesting.
The Stihl 026 I have has "mag rot" on the clutch side, I'm in two minds as to if I should replace the cases, need to split and clean the cases. I have heard you can replace just the one case half but from my understanding the cases are line bored. Pull apart that other saw you have and see what it's like then make a decision TM.
Personally flywheel side I would save for the bone pile. Clutch side looks good. Nothing wrong with a frankensaw the parts interchange you are not going for a restoration you are looking to build a runner. With the pitting so deep I would put it aside
I don’t mind cleaning up my own mess but hate cleaning up after someone else!

That cleaner works very good, strange how the case seems to break down. I have a 261c it's in very good condition. Love your videos keep them coming.
I couldn't tell the difference if you put newer cases on it or not. I just love watching you meake old saws great again. Make it a ripper, just my vote.
I put parts in an old dishwasher. Does a good job.
Might put them in the good dishwasher 🤣 see what the wife has to say
If they are gone before 5am it never happened.@crossan008
Lets use it and show us a good jb weld repair while you are at it. Custom engraved 20" bar sounds awesome. Great video.
You had my blessing before you even started!💪
I have a harbor freight parts washer with a good USA made pump and i love it. Good for all of my hobbies.

Good afternoon Tinman! Thank you for the great content. Can't wait to see how this saw turns out.

Simple green purple is my go to for cleaning. Use my ultrasonic more like a parts washer with a brush to prep parts for sale.
Watch the plastics though simple green is rough on the plastics

Purpose... that is perfect!

Great video as usual TinMan
Hope you and the family have a great week
Thanks Tinman on your positive attitude and great character
I’d like to see you use the original cases, and show us Stihl guys what to do when our cases are flakey!
I say if they seal up, run e'm!
Been wanting an ultrasonic cleaner for a while, just haven't pulled the trigger on one yet.
Tinman it come clean 🧽 with time . Tks a million for your time and great videos . 😊 WISHING all a wonderful and safe Canada 🇨🇦 Day weekend with family and friends! 😊

Always enjoying u videos !
To do a deep clean I use a plastic crate put part in crate and preasure wash.
Hey bro, I saw a few of your mosquitoes fly by on the video, do you use shotguns to kill them😂

Clean up the corroded spots real well and if there is no holes smooth it out with JB weld and use them!
Per title of this video, super clean and good epoxy. Fix it right up!
I'd say use the cases, I just had to make the same call on my 034 Super. It was just as bad and had a pin missing for the brake, I bought a pin and am going to make it work!

Even though it’s a firewood saw I’d go with better cases. So you use the 260 case.. it’s a cool hybrid and someone will love it just as much.
Sandblast those cases, then you don't have to worry about the powder coat flaking off.
I have a good flywheel side 026 case half. I will send it.
I've got the exact same ultrasonic cleaner......I got the 6l and am quite happy.
For me, those cases are too far gone. The actual crankcase is probably gas tight, but taken together, they're not worth the time investment to do a full rebuild. I'd look at the 260 cases and then make a decision. I once built an 026/MS260 hybrid for a mate. It don’t look like the corrosion is hindering the integrity of the saw so sender. Let the build begin
Normally the inside powder coat flaking is caused by excessive heat.
I would like to see you use the 026 cases vs the 260 cases. The corrosion does not look to be into the important areas.
We trust your judgement on the cases.👍
Tinman build what you like I love. Metal body stihls don't mean you got too
Don’t think I would use it. But will enjoy the build
I think I might have the most unpopular opinion! If I could build saws like you then I would build the best saws I could... 260 case!
Use it is my vote ! 💯
So funny when the group that made the imperial system demean the few who still use.
Personally flywheel side I would save for the bone pile. Clutch side looks good. Nothing wrong with a frankensaw the parts interchange you are not going for a restoration you are looking to build a runner. With the pitting so deep I would put it aside
I'd like to see you use those cases
If you think their good to use, then their good cases.
Stihl got to have sugar in your pockets for them to run 🏃♂️ right Tinman . 😊
Could you sand blast it and re powder coat it? Idk if that possible but maybe someone with more experience could chime in.
Does the ultra sonic cleaner lift any loose paint?
I'd say look over those cases and you make the call. If they look like a ticking time bomb, they're scrap.
Oke bro
A 20" bar will dull an 026 performance badly. Try a 15" for a much nicer experience.
Old dishwasher then ultrasonic.
Can you useJB weld or something similar to fix that.
Jb weld can fix holes for sure. It's a decent short to medium timeframe repair.
As an American, I really appreciate you using gallons and miles
As a Canadian who is bilingual (i speak Metric and the vastly superior Imperial system...a system fit for royalty), i love it
Yep we know u guys behind times
First thumbs up and comment, woooot, love ur content
Thanks for hanging out here
Are the cases aluminum or magnesium ?
Pretty sure magnesium
Petrol and a Paint brush
👍
How's the Tinman and family
me me me 💪👍👍👍
