I have watched possibly 30 Katy Trail videos and this one is by far my favorite. Great job with the video, great job with the explanations of the sight postings and I got a kick out of both of your attitudes towards the adventure. Heidi you are special.
Watching from India . It was like riding along with you folks ! Fantastic trail , excellent and well maintained roads , great infrastructure and halting points. A bikers dream trip ! Biking is catching up big time here. Hopefully we will have similar support structure in India in the near future !
Most definalty a great trail, one of our new favorites. I hope so too we're really blessed with some amazing trails in the us thanks for the kind words and comment. Hope to hear from you again ! !
Thanks, we tried to provide a little value to our video, although we like to play around a lot too we definalty don't take our selfs too seriously. Love traveling by bike, and enjoy the ride !!
It was such an amazing trip we would definalty do it again. we were sad at the end our trip definalty could have turned around and went back !! Such fun
I don’t think I’ve eve watched a one hour and twenty-three minute video but as a fellow bike rider this was epic. I liked your wife’s comment near the end: “Let’s ride the whole country!”
Just came across your channel. Enjoyed this video, thanks for sharing it. Something to put on your list(maybe) would be The Paul Bunyan Trail. It's billed as the nations longest fully paved bike trail @120 miles or so. I'd love to see that, too. In the meantime, I'm going to binge watch the rest of your shows.
We apriciete that. Thanks so much, omg just looked that trail up looks amazing deffinalty will be putting that on our list. Thank you for that recommendation.
Really enjoyed this and how you put it all together with all the information about where you were at each spot. Looks like so much fun! I hope to get there myself someday. Thanks for sharing
Thanks so much ! It was definalty a blast. It was so worth it. One of the best we have riding so far would defianlty do it again!!! Thanks again for the kind words !
I had no plans to watch all of this, but it was really enjoyable and I ended up watching the whole thing. I was also never planning on biking this whole trail, but now I want to 😂 I didn't know about the shuttle bus, so that is a big reason why I'd like to bike the trail now. I live right next to the trail, so now all I need is a bike!
Watching Drew Binsky's video LA's most Dangerous Hood and I was like I have seen this Heidi before somewhere. Then I remembered watching you ride a bike on the gap trail and it was you at the midnight mission! stay positive good work!
i live in england, and i love bicycle touring, i have heard about the katy trail from listening to the pedalshift podcast, so its nice to see what it actually looks like.
Have you ever had to ride all day in rain? What was that like? Also, what bike saddle do you have? I just bought a touring bike and the saddle is hard as a rock!
We deffinalty have encountered some long raining rides. We have your basic rain coats. Inevitably, we get wet. We try not to plan longer travel days on rainy ones if possible. We have brooks b17 saddles. So far, so good lots of miles on them holding up well and decently comfortable for long rides. Took a little bit for break-in, but deffinalty a good one .
Thanks what a great time ! We got our front racks from the surly dealership. The panniers we pieced together some new some used from ebay looking for the best deals !!
Thanks for explaining how Katy Trail got its name I didn't know that. I'm planning to ride Katy Trail next year, riding Erie Canal Trail first now. Did you guys ride it just now you mentioned that temps were 90'F Thanks for the video. Great ride, looking forward to my own Katy Trail ride!👍😊
Love the Erie canal, only done a couple of overnight rides on it, lots of fun, we rode the Katy second week in June, although the temps were high we made it threw six days with only about 3 minutes of rain. Definalty a great ride !
@@ReimaginedAdventures You guys got lucky with the weather. I'm hoping for good weather on my ride on the Erie Canal Trail. What part of Erie Canal trail did you do? I got an Amtrak ticket to Buffalo in August and the plan is to ride to Albany, posting videos as I go.
@@ReimaginedAdventures thank you, looking forward to my Erie Canal ride in August but before that I do a quick ride on C&O Canal trail from Washington DC to Harpers Ferry this month. Thanks again. 🙂
Thanks !!! Great time great anniversary. Here is something that has a lot of resources and will be helpful for information. bikekatytrail.com/katy-trail-map.aspx
Congratulations! We did the Katy last year. This year we rode Buffalo, NY to Pittsburgh after watching your video (Erie to Pittsburgh), but somehow our Komoot route missed a majority of the trails you took and we had soooooooo many hills. 5,200 feet of elevation on the last day. Augh!
Thanks, it was a fantastic trail. It was so much fun! Could have done it twice ! No way, that's awesome. The hills are brutal can't even explain right .. . tuff, but rewarding stuff. Thanks for the kind words and comment. Maybe we will cross paths some time looking forward to it !
Lord willing, we will be riding October 9th to 14th, 2023! It's our Anniversary as well! We rode from Clinton to Windsor and fell in love with the idea to ride the whole thing. B.A.M. 2023
Have a great anniversary!! It is such a great ride ! Could have turned around at the end and rode back to clinton wonderful trail. Have fun, thanks for the comment
I'm loving your video! I have done RAGBRAI 4 times with a friend once and my husband three times. I'm wanting to take off and do this trail by myself. Do you thinks it's safe to ride it alone? Also, Can you tell me about your surly bikes? I'm currently riding a LIV gravel bike and I have a fuji road bike but want a surly to do exactly what you're doing.
That's excellent and one heck of a ride !!! Deffintly do you own research there are beter areas then others to stay for the night. The capital area wasn't the most pleasant area, so we planned our miles to miss staying there all, and all was very peaceful and pretty safe. Our bikes !!! We love them they are so durable we are hard on them, and they just take a beating. They are very ridged for loading them up with weight. Defianlty great for touring. Not very fast, but feel very good for long rides !!
I'm set to do the Katy in May 2024 but Imay decide to do Pittsburgh to DC again instead. The Katy just looks kind of boring. I've also done Buffalo to Albany and Cincy to Cleveland.
There are definalty some boring parts of the trail. Pittsburgh to DC is such an awesome ride ! Buffalo to Albany is on the list for sure how long did you take for that trip.
Buff to Albany is do-able in 4 days but its a push. I did it this September. Skeeters when stopped. Camping is OK along route. You don’t have to wait til you get to locks. Seemed safe to me. Can be some long isolated distances between services and water so plan for that.
@CentristRN It is doable in 4 days but for me as a slow rider it was 4.5 maybe 5. The Erie Canalway has lots of great inns to stay at and lots of great restaurants . I will tell you three great hotels I stayed at: Hart House Inn in Medina, Canal Lamp Inn in Pittsford and the unforgettable Amsterdam Castle in Amsterdam. Took a BAD wrong turn and ending up riding (and walking the bike) through a forest preserve and a swamp for a few hours between Savannah and Port Byron. Don't do that! That's the section where there is some road riding to do.
Great video watch the whole thing brought back memories of my trip last spring. Really wish Heidi would wear a helmet. Sorry to be a Karen, but I’ve seen two riders break their head open recently.
I'm riding this at the end of May, I'm imaging its a lonely rail trail with giant farm fields on either side the entire way lol (the drone shot is helping that picture lol)
Yeah, there were some stretches of nothing. we got a heads up from another rider and packed a little extra food boonville down about 40 miles. There was nothing there
I have to agree. I did the GAP Trail in Pennsylvania that runs from DC to Pittsburgh. I rode most of it with my helmet off due to the heat and lack of seeing another person, car or obstacle.
You have issues don't you, I'm not sure what you think will happen if you fall at 7mph .. but the answer is nothing... you probably wear a helmet to walk around the store coward
Y’all need your own show on the Travel Channel! I thoroughly enjoyed watching your adventures! ❤
How awesome would that be !!! Thank you thank you !!
I agree!!
I have watched possibly 30 Katy Trail videos and this one is by far my favorite. Great job with the video, great job with the explanations of the sight postings and I got a kick out of both of your attitudes towards the adventure. Heidi you are special.
Awe, thanks. we apriciete that this trail was a blast, and we would definalty do it again so much fun.
This is awesome so far ! I will have to watch the rest when I get home ! It's like a movie
Excellent trip/trail all of the above highly recommend 👍

I biked the Katy with a friend over the summer (2023) and I've been missing that adventure! It's nice to relive it through your video! :) way to go!
It was such an amazing trip we would definalty do it again. we were sad at the end our trip definalty could have turned around and went back !! Such fun
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! 🚲🏕🚲

Great video, thanks for sharing your Katy Trail adventure and giving some inspiration 😊
It's a fantastic trail. If you haven't already done this one, it's a must !!!
Fun video, love the Intel in campgrounds and places to eat, the civil war history and all. Keep doing what you're doing, I ride in sandals too!
Thanks!!! What a great ride it was !!!
You guys did great!
I rode the KT with my grown sons on Oct. ‘22.
My wife and are riding the KT on Oct this year.
Ride On !!
Thanks Scott, what an awesome trail, right? Would defianlty do it again. We could have turned around and went back to clinton !!!
I love your enthusiasm. Best of luck on your future adventures.

A Surly Happy Anniversary! I'm watching on my phone at "work" so I can comment all I want when I want
Love hearing from ya!! thanks year 3 still going strong.
Nice to see older bikers for encouragement 😊
"older" 😂

Thank you!! I found a job that doesn't feel like a job at The Midnight Mission. Thank you for watching both videos.
Enjoyed your video. I see you were riding Surly bikes. I have Surly Disc Trucker. I love it. Hope to do the Katy Trail some day.
Thanks ! What a wonderful trip would definalty do again, we love our bikes fun bikes to ride !!

Does not disappoint. I hope you get the opportunity to enjoy this trail it was wonderful and would definalty do it again, just amazing.
I love Katy Rock Junction ❤
It's fantastic !!! 👏
Well done
Omg, this is awesome. You guys are fun.
What a blast !! Can't wait to catch a ride with you.. we are going to pine creek soon !
You guys are awesome
❤️
Are riders allowed to camp anywhere along trail, or only in designated spots?
We were told only in designated spots

That stone tunnel is so RAD!
Way cool isn't got some good shots
Amazing video where did you find your front racks and all of your panniers bags?
Thanks what a great time ! We got our front racks from the surly dealership. The panniers we pieced together some new some used from ebay looking for the best deals !!

Nice! Was it as flat as it looks? And was it bug city being along side the river?
Very flat super easy to ride, bugs ehhh. . . yeah alittle buggy for sure. Very pretty tho ! Good to hear from you !
Addiction is real
aw man, your drone footage is SO COOL!!!! (im punching myself for selling mine)
It's a fun toy still getting used it sure gets some cool videos
How does one prevent their butt from hurting. I barely ride and my butt always hurts 🤕
Still trying to figure that one out lol. Brooks saddles help
@@ReimaginedAdventures sorry i shouldn't say older..I'm even older Lol

Great ride
How fast did you ride on average with all them packed gear?
9 mph may have been faster with out all the stops and turn arounds to go get camera 🤣🤣 it was an excellent ride
Lewis & Clark, eh?
There’s a place in Seaside, Oregon, where they boiled seawater for salt….
Way cool
I've made it to the 200 mile mark! Marthasville
This has to be one of the best trails !!
In Windsor I highly recommend Katy’s Cabins.
So many great options would do this trail again just to see what we missed !!

What a wonderful trip !!
What bikes are u riding
Surly long haul truckers !!!
Nebraska cowboy trail is longer than this trail and the one from the Illinois/Indiana state line ( south of Chicago) goes south into Kentucky…
Great trails !!!
What's bike you riding?
We both are riding surly long haul truckers. Heidi's is a 46, and mine is a 52.
..done the Katy in the fall
Great trail
