Pour one out for Frank Sobotka. Chris Bauer deserved the Emmy that year for his performance -- one of the most tragic characters in television history. A good man who wanted to do right by his people. Like Beadie said, Frank was better than those who he got in bed with.
Season 2 is strong despite its initial reputation. Many original viewers hadn’t yet understood the scope and ambition of the series so they were expecting more of the West Baltimore drug trade story and were disappointed they didn’t get it. Seasons 3 & 4 are as good as their reputations. You won’t be disappointed for continuing The Wire.
the montage at the end is always my favorite part of each season and frank sobokta is truly one of the best characters in the wire and its so unfortunate how he ends. I truly hope you watch all 5 seasons because this is a show that TRULY never took there foot off the gas until the writer and director finished his story.
I do think it's one of the weaker Seasons, but that's just because there are only 5. On any given day I could be craving any of them. It's a very personal season, while also introducing us more to the ethos of the show and the world of Baltimore.
On first watching it, that's exactly how I felt. But watching it again, I liked it a lot more because it really punctuated the pettiness that exists in a lot of what the government does.
Frank's Wire reactions are the best on YT, and it's not close. Noticing those family parallels, and the narrative rhythm where characters reach their peak power for us when they're most in danger, and how the motivational landscape is constantly shifting between greed, careerism, pettiness, ego, nobility, pride, vengeance--and how it all adds up to a terrible relentless fate in the end, with just flashes of redemption to keep us going. Great stuff.
It's that in-between area this ends in, the one we got familiar with from season 1. It somehow hurts and feels about right at the same time. - Thanks Frank, see you in season 3! -
Great reaction! A couple of thoughts: I think Bubs avoided Kima since he told McNulty not to tell her that he relapsed. I think he felt shame and didn't want to disappoint her. Also, I think Omar would have been more skeptical of Stringer. I get his emotions got played, but they've already parlayed since Brandon died. Either way led to some fantastic moments with him and Brother. Lastly, I completely agree on the actor playing Frank. What a great performance.
I watch the Wire only with you amd I was so excited for the finale of season two. I am so thankfull that you are not dropping it for season three. ❤ I will definetly be around for it!
On first watch, a lot of Wire fans maligned season 2 (myself included) and only came to love it later. I'm glad to see that you already enjoyed the season - gives me a lot of hope for how you'll perceive the rest of the show. You've earned a loyal viewer here.
@@blinkachu5275Same man. Frank is my dude and just the whole dock crew was such a great vibe. Then we have some of the most impactful stuff in the series like the "All Prequel" episode where, among other things, D is killed off. Then you add all the setup for season 3 with Stringer, and it genuinely baffles me that people could hate this season.
Shout out to James Ransone who played Ziggy. There isn't a weak performance in this series, but Ransone loses himself in that role so much you forget he's acting. He's done a lot of great character work including the adult Eddie Kaspbrack in IT Chapter 2.
I love this I love that you notice it. But please let's not emphasize or hype upcoming episodes/seasons. That way I don't build up hype in my mind and can organically react, enjoy, and be surprised by it when it comes 🙏🏾🙏🏾
I feel you, and agree. But let's be careful.. that's getting close to spoiler territory in my mind. Let him just watch it with zero expectations as most of us were able to.
The amazing Amy Ryan, who in this episode called in from the 5th floor & nearly cried with “Frank,” is in the spectacular film Gone Baby Gone. That’s a strong recommendation for Gone Baby Gone. In addition, she had a comedic role in The Office (U.S.), as Holly.
He is also fantastic in the show Treme! Also Bunks actor is a major character in that. Not sure it would make for a good reaction but def worth checking out!
Frank is one of my favorite single season characters of all time. He's so complex and compelling. Frank does wrong things, but you understand his conviction in protecting the pier and its workers. You never really see him splash the cash on himself. His clothes are shit, his car is shit, he's not living a life of luxury because of his crimes. He's putting all of it back into his workers and his community. Frank is misguided, but he's not evil. He tries so hard to hold it down for his community, he lets his son slip away. Season 2 is a tragedy and true to life, there are no easy endings.
Two things about the future Frank (without spoilers): 1. You were talking about how good the acting is. You haven't even met some of the show's best characters yet. 2. You said that just when you think The Wire can't get any better, but you haven't even gotten to the best seasons yet.
Excellent work again for season 2. Bit of trivia - Mouzone’s assistant is another real person acting - he’s a former juvenile dealer that Simon got to know when he was researching his book ‘The Corner’. You’ve gifted me the game of thinking ahead to all the emotional truth-telling conversations we’ve got coming up 💔🙏
Valchek says "rest in peace" in Polish, in van picture scene. I think his goal was not to kill Sobotka, but to get the satisfaction of finally having upper hand over him.
All the pieces matter. Onnce again, everyone acted their asses off with S tier quality and this reaction matches that energy, even with Agent Orange jumping around haha
There is a series called The Corner. It was also an HBO series and it was focused on Baltimore. A lot of the same actors in both series. Highly recommend watching
Season 2 can legitimately be argued as the best season of The Wire-- people who criticize it only had superficial gripes that were more of an issue with their own attention span/lack of open-mindedness/preconceived expectations/ability to adjust, in my opinion (and initially, I was one of them). Has nothing to do with the actual quality of the season, which is top notch.
@@Cream-2128 I stand by my opinion and disagree that there's a defacto authoritative correct answer. Season 4 is the most emotionally engaging, universally relatable to viewers, and popular simply due to the subject matter and types of players involved (it gets a tad overrated because of that, despite being legitimately incredible and among the best), but it's not handled with as much subtlety and understated brilliance/tastefulness as season 2 is, in my opinion, nor is it notably any more well written than any of the first four seasons (MAYBE the first one). Every season besides the last one (especially 2, 3, and 4) has some unique strength that can put it over the top depending on what a person values. Most well rounded and "classic" feeling might be 3 (maybe 1, too), most uncompromising/bold/tasteful might be 2, and most universally appealing/relatable/emotional might be 4. That's all that separates them, in my opinion-- In terms of actual quality, they're all pretty consistent. The way I see it, if you want to win someone over to the series initially, it's going to be season 4 for sure, but over time and after rewatch upon rewatch, season 2 rises to the top for me, personally. I'd actually go 2 >= 3 >= 4 > 1 >>>>> 5 at this point.
@@RandomsPage2 while good is definitely not better than 3 or 4 and I still have 1 ahead of it. Two was unique and gave a different take but there is no way with the things playing out like they do in seasons 3 and 4 this goes ahead.

After watching this video I think its clear. The cat is working for the Greeks, trying to give you a heart attack at key moments of the show!

He was a shining light in Generation Kill. I recommend that performance to people just to inform them of how to effectively break tension.
He did an amazing job
It is funny to think that Chris Bauer who played his father, is not even a full 13 years older than him.
Seeing how much you genuinely emphatize for "innocent" kids and people like D and ZIggy, I bet season 4 will gonna be your favourite season.

I watched that show, even suffered through the later seasons. Didn’t realize he was in it.
If you want to see more of actors like Lester, you should check out Simon's previous outing "The Corner". It's only 6 episodes and it's great.
