The final montage showing the new generation replacing the old is always so moving and tragic but the scene that always gets me is Bubbles getting out of the basement, such a powerful allegory for drug addictions depths but that there can be hope for the dawn of a new day.

There are never any moments of empathy for the victims whether it's an old lady robbed and murdered, or a pregnant woman beaten to death. We always see the viewpoint of the criminal. But in the long run, what makes Sopranos work is the situation comedy aspect of it: who doesn't love the sheer stupidity and quotable lines? Also in the long run, Sopranos just repeats itself with its winning formula and then runs out of gas and runs on way too long on fumes. The Wire on the other hand has plenty of empathy for the victims of crime, the murdered innocents, criminals and cops are all deeply felt. The Wire focuses on groups of people who dedicate their lives to making a difference in the world, whether it's the cops, criminals, teachers, politicians. And in the long run, it's all for nothing, nothing changes, and the game starts again with new players. The Wire is a complete series that drives its point home in a devastatingly manner and really the show that rises above all.

Not to mention, it’s when the show stepped into that “jumped the shark” territory with mcnulty creating that false murders. I’m of the belief that a lot of dudes didn’t like season 5 and saw it as “boring” because they simply didn’t like the “edumuhcation” of newspaper journalism.

Best part about the series is seeing some of it make it out. Poot working as a regular shoe salesman, Cutty becomes a new man completely as a youth counselor, Bubble is allowed to leave the basement, etc. But I guess you see the 'bad side' do the same thing, Michael becomes the new Omar.
I watched The Wire again for the first time since I was a teenager and completely viewed it with a new set of eyes and understanding! Guaranteed that anytime there’s a rundown of episodes or characters I will be here to watch it! This is a great summary. Love it!👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

Ive been working as a case manager/social worker for 22 year. And worked in the shelters and detention centers. Season 4 is the realest season in tv history. I lived that life with my job
I like how some characters became others characters later down the line. For example: Mike became the new Omar ,Naymond became Clay Davis,Duke became bubbles
What makes you think naymond becomes clay Davis? He always struck me as more of an example of how many of these kids could successfully get out if they were given the right opportunities

I actually felt bad for Bunny in the end of the Hampsterdam arc. He actually tried to make a change and positive results actually happened. Big weights just didnt like the ops behind it.
As a sequel to this Recap you should do We Own this City. Same writers, same city, even the same actors for about half the cast. It was something special, only 1 season so you could bang that out into a 10 min vid

I LOOOVED the first 3 seasons but the later seasons with the kids were so hard for me to stomach. It was so hard to watch that it wasn’t enjoyable because it made me so damn sad

It eventually kills what he was working for, and mirrors real life with how some unions got in bed with organized crime. The point is that the dock worker story dies out because the workers had no where to go. How many people in The Wire got screwed over? Plenty. Cops, crooks, ordinary people, just like it really happens, showing us that nothing really changes much. Plus, we got to see what a petty, vindictive asshole Valchek was, and how a POS like him can climb the ladder to eventually get what he wants. I think everyone who has worked knows a Valchek on the job.
I watched the Wire at the tinder age of 12-13 and I came in watching season 4 which blew my FUCKING MIND because while watching it I knew even back then it spoke to my own experiences in middle school just with an adult perspective of the "why" it is the way it is. Easily one of the most important tv series of the modern age of television. Also Little finger is here playing politics! So many later to become big names are here, Michael B. Jordan is actually Wallace which is hilarious to me because out of all the young actors in this series I wasn't expecting it to be him who made it huge in the future.
Holy shit, I could not imagine watching such a heavy show at that young of an age, especially the middle school parts in Season 4. My first watch was around 16-17 for me. The Wire is the TRUTH.
The wire can literally teach you life lessons. *Lesson:* you think it’s one way, but it’s another way. *Lesson:* chase drugs, you get drug dealers, you chase the money, and you don’t know where it’ll take you. *Lesson:* there you go caring when it’s not your turn to care. *Lesson:* the job won’t save you, it won’t make you whole, it won’t fill your A up. *Lesson:* every job, career, system in place has a game to be played and there are winners, losers, and victims. *Lesson:* the players will always change but the game stays the same.
Omar’s death was the worst man. But also the most realistic. In real life, these guys don’t die in shootouts. They die from their best friends or someone random when they least expect it. Sad life to live.
Good recap but Stringer didn’t ask Avon to kill a senator it was Slim Charles that he asked. Avon refused that’s when Stringer told Avon about Deangelo and Avon tried to fight Stringer, however since Avon was hurt after being shot by Marlo that didn’t go far. You missed a lot in the season 3 recap

Season 4 was def the best, but (unpopular opinion) personally my favorite was Season 2.
The wire can literally teach you life lessons.
*Lesson:* you think it’s one way, but it’s another way.
*Lesson:* chase drugs, you get drug dealers, you chase the money, and you don’t know where it’ll take you.
*Lesson:* there you go caring when it’s not your turn to care.
*Lesson:* the job won’t save you, it won’t make you whole, it won’t fill your A up.
*Lesson:* every job, career, system in place has a game to be played and there are winners, losers, and victims.
*Lesson:* the players will always change but the game stays the same.

Omar’s death was the worst man. But also the most realistic. In real life, these guys don’t die in shootouts. They die from their best friends or someone random when they least expect it. Sad life to live.

Good recap but Stringer didn’t ask Avon to kill a senator it was Slim Charles that he asked. Avon refused that’s when Stringer told Avon about Deangelo and Avon tried to fight Stringer, however since Avon was hurt after being shot by Marlo that didn’t go far. You missed a lot in the season 3 recap
