  • Dozens of business owners met with Mayor Ted Wheeler on Tuesday night, asking him for the city’s help in addressing these rampant issues. Wheeler pledged to start a 90-day cleanup plan in the area, of the sort that the city has done before in Old Town.

    Telling your problems to Ted Wheeler is like pissing your pants in a dark suit. You get a warm feeling when you do it, but nobody will ever know you did it.

    These owners allowed themselves (like almost all residents) to be guilted into acceptance of overly compassionate, non accountability for criminals and drug addicts.
    It’s not like people (conservatives) haven’t been saying this was going to happen for the last five years, but hey, you get what you vote for.
    I’m sure Tina will do amazing work though 👍

    Oregon receives $27,586 per homeless person, per year to take care of the problem. If the problem was taken care of the funding would end. Somebody is benefiting greatly from all these people on the streets.

    He's been listening for 5 years. Nothing's improved, but plenty has gotten far worse. People liked him so much they reelected him during the height of his failures, and probably will again, with the same results.

    Myself I am for less talk about compassion for drug addicted bums and criminals. I would rather see some compassion and respect for the citizenry who has to put up with his garbage for a change. Just stop allowing people to sit on the street corner and do drugs. And there is absolutely no reason to allow anyone to collect piles and piles of garbage and filth. Throw them in jail. It'll be good for them as well as the law abiding citizens that deserve better.

    I think, at this point, folks there need to realize that Pandora's box is wide open... move out, and move on. The state legislature should be in emergency session right now, passing measures mitigating this disaster. It's not. It's a crisis, kind-of, sorta-maybe. And it's peculiar that Salem is so quiet on this, the governor should be right there, next to Wheeler, answering questions and addressing the citizens. She's not. Is it a crisis, or not? Is it even a issue? It's the strangest thing I've ever seen.

    Instead of asking Wheeler for help, they should be holding him and the city council accountable. The city council voted to defund the police. What did people expect would happen with less officers patrolling the streets and people becoming emboldened to commit crimes knowing police response times are longer than usual. Defunding the police is not the solution. Holding officers and their bosses accountable for misconduct and rights violations, abolishing qualified immunity, and limiting police unions power is where the focus should be. Learn your rights, keep you car doors locked, and film the police.

    Involuntary commitment would scare me right out of town...just sayin...

  • @CowboyConan
    @CowboyConan ปีที่แล้ว

    Involuntary commitment can be horribly traumatic for the patient and could lead to further mental health instability. People in crisis need accessible primary mental health services, like access to therapists, psychiatrists, and medications. Start voting for public healthcare.

    • @bruisersdilemma354
      @bruisersdilemma354 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, so much more traumatic than living in a NYC gutter in the ghetto in January? You, and those like you, are a massive part of the problem. All of these cities, including NYC where I live, have incredible access to mental health services, but what utter fools like you always forget, a person with a mental illness is not of sound mind to make rational decisions, you know, like seeking treatment for their mental illnesses...If you had a clue, you'd know that people avoid homeless shelters due to the rampant violence within, they are not of sound mind to seek out a therapist, and they would rather sell their meds on the street so they can buy illicit drugs. But go ahead and keep up the good advice homie!

    • @jonnyfendi2003
      @jonnyfendi2003 ปีที่แล้ว

      They need forced treatment. U think some schizophrenic goon is gonna willingly go to a therapist and psychiatrist on their own?? You live in la la land
