    The 4.7L usually only drops a rocker after it has overheated due to lack of coolant getting to the heads. One is very luck that the hardened steel valve seat doesn't fall out when this happens causing piston and head damage.

    ive got an 02 ram 1500 4.7L V8. I believe i have a misfire on a cylinder (well im more than certain there is a misfire) BUT I had daily driven it for a month on the misfire and had tried everything i could find. About a month of driving on the misfire my engine randomly overheated and blew the radiator apart. To my surprise the engine had little to no oil in it!! So i filled it with oil and replaced the radiator. Now the truck will fire up, idle normal for a few seconds and then it drops down between 500-600 rpms, Ive checked IAC valve (fine), Throttle position sensor, MAP Sensors, MAF Sensors, and everything seems fine and the engine still will not idle correctly. I have noticed that the exhaust flange from headers has a leak/broken off. Now im only 16 yo and am trying to figure this out myself, im not very mechanically inclined, but i had a thought that maybe the engine is not getting enough back pressure due to the flange being damaged. Then again, i may sound like a utterly confused teen to some of you. This vehicle was passed down from my father and i can not bring myself to give up on the truck. if any of you have had somewhat related issues please reply and help me out!! Yes i have also checked for gaskets being blown, or leaking. I have tried a idle relearn. Anything helps!!

      It will idle at around 550-630 rpms in park and neutral, when i try to put the vehicle in drive it dies due to the already low idle.

      @PhillipBailey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      550 to 650 idle is not low that's actually normal. So the problem your chasing now is a stall when you put in drive? Will it stay running if you keep the RPM up with the gas pedal? Is it setting any fault codes? An exhaust leak won't cause this in my opinion.

    I have an 05 dodge ram with the 4.7l and for some reason when I let off the gas after accelerating to exactly 70mph the truck jumps. I thought it was a shifting issue, got a code for the transmission shift solenoid, so I replaced that and it’s still doing the same thing. Any idea about what could be the problem?

      I am experiencing a similar problem with my dodge ram 1500 2004 4.7 misfire when starting and it will die on me if you touch the gas. any thoughts that could help? been to the shop 3 times now.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      fixed both the misfire and tick. Are you experiencing a miss on a specific cylinder? What has been done so far? any codes?

    • @nolanharp9680
      @nolanharp9680 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipBailey random multiple misfires, but then brought to shop they had it on cylinder 4, as far as ticking goes I haven't heard anything but I haven't ck for it. When I start it up the rpms start at 900 and as they drop to 500 it will sometimes (if given gas) die. Its been to the shop 3 times, cam shaft sensor and all spark plugs and fuel injectors. I have an O2 sensor code and CAT below threshold on same side. CAT was a recent development and the O2 sensor I've replaced twice. the one with he code had the plug seized up so it may be electrical. Ive cked the fuel pressure before starting threw the value and its pretty low so I'm wondering if the fuel pump may be leaking the fuel in the line back to the tank. Or code be a code from the sensors from O2. Im not honestly sure.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@nolanharp9680 well the O2s don't begin to work until it's run for several minutes so it's not likely them but you could have a restricted convertor causing the misfires. Look at the reported misfire counters and see if they are primarily on one bank. Check exhaust backpressure on that side. Good luck

      @@PhillipBailey Misfires are on cylinder 4, after listening to it the clicking noise is noticeable. Not sure how to ck the back pressure but note it has a muffler delete. Ill pull the valve cover off as soon as the seal comes it. Thank you!

    I’m having a hard time finding the harness that goes to the ignition coil online, know anywhere I can get one?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      The harness assembly is a dealer item only or used but if all you need is the connector to a coil that is available from the aftermarket parts suppliers.

    • @legendarytwo8525
      @legendarytwo8525 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipBailey got the reason I ask, is bc the harness on mine looks rough and I’m having an issue where it takes a few seconds to crank over when I first start it but if I turn the truck off and right back on after the initial crank up it start right up no hesitation, plus I have a misfire in cylinder 8

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      @legendarytwo8525 any codes besides the P0308? Maybe you are losing fuel pressure causing the extended crank time. Misfire could be related if it's a leaking injector in number 8

    • @legendarytwo8525
      @legendarytwo8525 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PhillipBailey I also have a P0208 code and the previous owner put all new injectors in 3 months ago

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  ปีที่แล้ว

      @legendarytwo8525 A P0208 code means that the PCM has stored a trouble code indicating poor performance on a fuel injector on Cylinder 8. This could be due to a bad injector, an open or short connection, an intermittent open or short, a bad ground or even a bad PCM (though rare). Check the connector pins on number 8 injector and connect a noid light to the correct and start the engine
      It should flash the light. Check for power to the green wire running.

    PLEASE HELP! Hi Phillip, im having a similar problem with my 2005 ram 4.7L its ticking and shows just 1 code on cylinder 3 (p0303) i changed the coil packs, spark plugs and fuel injectors with no luck so I checked the compressions and number 3 is between 20-30 psi and sometimes 0 psi so I pulled the cover but everything is still in place. Any ideas? Please and thanks.

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're sure your compression gage is good, (confirm it by checking a different cylinder) and both valves are moving properly when cranking you need to do a leakdown test. With both valves closed and the piston at TDC put compressed air into the cylinder through the sparkplug hole. Listen for escaping air. If air blows out the throttle body you have a burnt intake valve. If you hear the air at the tail pipe you have a burnt exhaust valve. If the air comes out the oil filler then you have broken piston rings or hole in tge piston. All three options are not good. Good luck. Let me know how you make out.
